EA has denied reports that a Dead Space 2 remake was in development before being canceled, with a spokesperson telling IGN, "We don't normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story."

EA's comments follow reports from Jeff Grubb, who claimed that EA Motive was working on concepts for Dead Space 2, but that it was ultimately shelved due to lackluster sales of the previous release. However, IGN understands that the Dead Space 2 remake wasn't one that EA considered.
EA hasn't reported the Dead Space remake's official sales, but it was the best-selling new game in the U.S. in January 2023. A source tells IGN that the Dead Space remake was ultimately considered to have done well.

Yesterday, EA announced that Motive is forming a new team led by Dead Space Remake developers Roman Campos-Oriola and Phillipe Ducharme to "support single-player and multiplayer objectives for Battlefield Universe." Motive also insisted that Iron Man "remains an important priority" and that development is going well.
The Dead Space Remake was released in early 2023, earning strong reviews for its visual fidelity and its creative expansion of the original game. It raised hopes that EA would continue with a remake of Dead Space 2, which is well-regarded by fans, but for now Motive seems fully-focused on Battlefield and Iron Man.

Neither Connected Battlefield Universe nor Iron Man currently have a release date. You can read about all the rest of 2024's biggest games right here.

Edit: Oh wait, EA is saying there were never any plans to remake 2.

Nevermind, hope dashed again.

Wait

They denied that IT WAS IN DEVELOPMENT before being cancelled

Technically true because it wasn't in development, it was in pre-planning phase.

EA is not a company that typically lies in these types of announcements (regardless of how you feel about them). They're likely telling the truth.

Just a technical truth

I used to pray for times like this

come on y'all:

However, IGN understands that the Dead Space 2 remake wasn't one that EA considered.

They're saying it was never in any form of development at all.

"concepts"

"in development"

Could there be wiggle room between these things? Lots of concepts get thrown about, and are not greenlit, before development proper might begin. So could both these sides of the story be true? IGN's understanding seems to be that it wasn't a concept EA considered, but that doesn't mean Motive wasn't toying around with the concept internally.

Why are people saying hope? EA is saying it was never in development to be cancelled. There's no hope!

This is good in a way. Leaves room for them to actually make it as opposed to outright cancelling it.

Maybe with no remake of 2 in production this means they're making Dead Space 4 instead...

*weeps*

Unless I'm misreading this, it sounds like it's less "EA denies a Dead Space 2 remake was canceled" and more "EA denies a Dead Space 2 remake was ever even considered for development despite it being pitched." Which is pretty heavy on the semantics and doesn't actually mean Jeff was wrong.
