Oh I did get one. I'm salty on behalf of those who didn't. Although salty is much too strong. It's their goal, they should push it.
I mean it truly is very shitty all around. But it's just the world we live in and I don't see how to change this. It's always the same with these kind of hype-products. And as long as there are people stupid enough to buy from scalpers this won't change. Sony, ebay and scalpers all profit from this.
Yep. Looking at recently completed buy it nows only, I see 15,875 sold. If all of those sold for $1,000, ebay has made nearly $2 million right there alone. Granted this is a promotion for no seller fees, so they are taking a hit on it. Curious what fees you still get.

I'm into reselling it's a legit game plan, I had a PS5 digital bought in their and the delivery guy messed up opening the box causing the item to be used and I had to get a refund
I think the idea there is to sell your old console on eBay now you've bought a new one. The photo of PS5 there illustrating your new console purchase. Completely innocent. Lol
Yep, this completely unsurprising as the next step for them. It's been clear for a long time that they will never lift a finger to parent any kind of scalping.
From their point of view, for something like a PS5 it's literally free money for them.
- they don't have to negate contracts with manufacturers
- they don't have to raise cash to source stock
- they don't have to source locations or spacing to hold any stock
- they would get a cut from standard sales from reputable stores selling them if it was a normal transaction, but can take a bigger percentage from smaller sellers.
- that already larger percentage is then vastly increased by the inflated price from scalping.
Even taking a temp hit on fees now, they can set up a market that gives them these advantages — there is almost no downsides for them except the (minimal) efforts they will make to deal with fraud.

I got email a couple of weeks ago about them moving to handling payments directly to cut paypal out. I know that has been around for a while in like a slow roll out test phase. But, seems like they will be expanding that to be the norm here soon. I should probably read the email since I sell a lot on ebay.
I didn't realize that Ebay encouraged scalping. There's a difference between selling second hand goods, and flipping something for profit. The first is both ethically and ecologically sound whereas the second is a scummy practice that simply adds to our carbon footprint and adds nothing of value.
Basically, what I'm saying is fuck scalpers, and fuck any company that encourages them.
Ebay is a website with the purpose of allowing people to sell whatever they want (pretty much).

People acting like consoles are face masks or other essential products. I don't think eBay cares if people are willing to pay for an entertainment product.
Yes, but you have to send through PayPal friends and family. Avoid sellers fees!
