I wonder if this issue can be solved by simply hiring more developers. I know these studios are budget sensitive, but c'mon, it's R*, they sold 100 million copies of GTAV.
Maybe so. But we do know about rockstar, this isn't new. It has a history of doing this.I'm not sure Rockstar is the only company like that, wouldn't be surprised if Naughty Dog is that way as well.
Is R* Lincoln the UK Lincoln? Because if so, the HMRC and employment legislators are going to have a field day taking Rockstar to the cleaners on this
I certainly won't be buying RDR2 and glad to say I've never spent a penny on GTA Online

Maybe ND does but this is a story about Rockstar not ND or EA or Ubisoft.
Everyone on Era could not buy RDR2 and Rockstar wouldn't even feel it. Nobody's gonna give a shit about those @s on twitter either.
People are gonna buy it.
They are right now. The most productive thing we can do now is keep the issue of crunch and the need for real workers rights/protections in game development in the everyday enthusiast conversation around games. This problem does not live or die with any one game, but RDR2 can certainly be the catalyst to get folks to actually care about it and push the industry to solve it. These reports are the first step.

People are really delusional about job mobility lolI think crunch is wrong. But I think any developer who works Rockstar can quit their jobs and have a job on the next day. They should be the first to value their free time and their lives.
Sadly, this is to be expected from a modern day open world AAA title trying to push the envelope on all fronts with insane attention to detail.
R* has set an extremely high standard for themselves. They should hire more people, but managing a huge multi-team project makes managing quality a tough job.
A reasonable solution would be to take it down a peg and go for a smaller scope, but fans wouldn't like that would they? And the metascore wouldn't be sitting at 97 in that case either.
Only thing left now is to unionize. I don't see any other way.
I don't think is easy. Your family, friends. But accept this kind of extra time is crazy.People are really delusional about job mobility lol
What if the next job opening is in another state or country?
I'd love to read more on the subject, if you'd be kind enough to point me in the right direction.I hope the irony isn't lost on all the ERA members who are shocked by R*'s work ethic while they're rocking icons with Japanese anime characters, a medium that's been often referred to as slave labor.

When the video game unions start forming resetera is gonna do a 180 when they start raising game prices and making "unreasonable" demands
A quick look at these games tell me RDR2 required much, much more regular and creative work.People always say this, but i think thats not the case. AC odyssey and Battlefield developers say they have relatively low to no crunch. Ecspecially stuff like QA, which seems to be the departement that has to crunch the most, seems to me like something that shouldn't be that hard to manage, if you hire more people.
"During GTA4 time at Rockstar North there was someone who had just had a baby and he was coming in early during the week and working late so he had weekends free," one person recalled. "He'd make sure all of his tasks were cleared, there were no bugs. But he was told by his boss at the time it was important he came in, and worked weekends. He said he couldn't come in at weekends as he would never see his family, but he was keeping on top of everything and keeping all his bugs down. Everything that was asked of him he'd do, and he was doing overtime during the week. So the boss went away, came back and dumped a load of stuff on his desk, and said, 'You'll have to work weekends now.' It was a matter of, you work the hours we want. He didn't last long after that."
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Rockstar is just full of sociopaths.
This is the same kind of abusive stuff you get with prison guards and drill sergeants.

This is simply not true for the people who work in the QA department. While Rockstar may be slightly different, many QA workers are fresh out of school or people with no school degrees who may not know better.I think crunch is wrong. "Who cares about video games when there are starving kids in China"If we gonna discuss that we need to apply that for everything. What is the human cost from iPhone productions? New gpus. New consoles. People in China are working 15-16 hours everyday to make the electronics we buy every year.
I think if we got rid of the flat price point of games we'd see less of this shit happening to just bloat up a game to knock off every checkbox imaginable. I'd rather deal with a $100 pricepoint instead of knowing I'm getting a product from a sweatshop
Eh, people will continue to buy their games and it'll blow over after a week. Rockstar knows they can get away with it.
R* can go fuck itself.
Wasn't planning on buying red dead anytime soon anyway, but I'll be steering well clear of their games until management sort this shit out.
The people on this forum complaining about delays seem to be absent whenever these threads show up though.
