Just got a steam link from the steam sale in. They were like $5 during that sale. Tried it out and it confirmed my home network's wireless router is ass. It does a network test when you link to your PC and mine came back 79% and upon trying it out wireless it had noticeable input delay offline. No frame drops but thats without me pushing it on anything high end so no promises. At some point I guess i should upgrade that router to one with better multiband streaming sorta stuff. Its not severe but its noticeable in fighitng games...adds a frame maybe two of input delay. Playable for certain but it feels like online play when offline when it does that to me. My house is one that'd be a bitch to crawl space and wire fish to where the link is gonna be placed and since I got one for the tv but one for the arcade I really dont wanna start that fishing shit since it'd end up with me having to finalize where I'm putting my arcade and fishing line to that spot. Its especially pointless considering it may end up upstairs. So yeah...new router I guess will be something I'll try to deal with after tax season or something.
I really don't wanna get around to it though...I got a tablet, several 3ds, 6 game consoles, 2 pc's, 2 phones, a steam link, a few roku...just a whole shitload of stuff on that router currently and changing the settings on all those things would just be a pain. The new irritants of being a gamer. Network changes and changing passwords on stuff afterwards.
Still, it'd be pretty baller to get that thing up and running inside the arcade cabinet using retroarch inside of steam. That'd pretty much nail down my raspberry Pi stuff for the bulk and anything too meaty for it could run on the PC like Taito Type X stuff or N64/ PS2 stuff. The addition of an ever growing steam library and all its great shmups and fighters is a big perk as well. No hurry though. I need to have enough time to play to really urge me to get busy on this lol. Today was my last day off till next year. I'll get around to it all eventually though. It'll be cool to see Arcana Heart Six Stars, Golden Fantasia, and Ghost Blade HD all on an arcade.
