Some time after Advent Children was where I stepped off the FF7 train.
I wasn't aware this movie was ever in theaters in the west. I known it originally released straight to DVD. Have they done the limited time engagent theater release outside of Japan before?

They should, some dialogue was super cringy.
The 4K was an upscale. The damage was done years ago, they clearly don't have anything to re-render.
It was already referenced in Remake, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone when Rebirth takes it a step further and makes the connections even more clear.
Yeah. It's crazy to me that it ever got released like it did. Even as someone who wasn't super into the tech side of things, it was incredibly jarring seeing the unreleased scenes in full 4K versus the upscaled ones from the original. Major "we stapled our group project together" energy.
Don't expect anything more than the current 4K quality that made it onto disc in 2021. If there was anything new about the master, they would have mentioned it already for the Japanese PR.
Right? It would have been so easy for them to just pick and choose parts of the compilation to acknowledge and just ignore the rest with Remake, and very few would fault them for it. But they said nope, we made all of this stuff -- good, bad and bizarre -- and we're going to own all of it. Even the mobile game that only a tiny fraction of our audience ever got to play.
It'll almost assuredly just be the original dub. They'd be advertising a new dub if they did one.
Going by general Movie ticket preorders at least, they're generally a month before the movie premieres so probably around Jan 21st-ish I'm expecting.
