It's an excellent cartoon. With all the spectacle, we forgot what actually happened. We are so removed from it. This viscerally reminds you of what this is actually about, and how awful a person Kavanaugh is.
A lot of Americans don't agree that it is bad, so long as the rapist is one of theirs.I don't think it's necessary to show a cartoon depiction of sexual assault to suggest that sexual assault is bad.
Why are they so bad at this?Well let's see what witty insights Republicans have on the issue!

That cartoon is a parody, right? Nobody would actually make something this terribly stupid, right?Well let's see what witty insights Republicans have on the issue!

Yep.It is not just a cartoon of a woman being raped though. It is a cartoon of Justice being raped by the Republican party.... and the latter is what the cartoonists wants to show.

I'm not big into them, so I could just think of "Fear of the Dark", which I guess also applies to the vast majority of people in power right now.You know the world has gone to shit when Metallica is prophetic.
Yep.
It immediately reminds me of this song (the line "justice is raped" is just incredibly on the nose even if it was written literally 30 years ago):
Halls of justice painted green, money talking
Power wolves beset your door, hear them stalking
Soon you'll please their appetite, they devour
Hammer of justice crushes you, overpower
The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can't believe the things you say
I can't believe, I can't believe the price you pay
Nothing can save you
Justice is lost, justice is raped, justice is gone
Pulling your strings, justice is done
Seeking no truth, winning is all
Find it so grim, so true, so real
Apathy their stepping stone, so unfeeling
Hidden deep animosity, so deceiving
Through your eyes their light burns, hoping to find
Inquisition sinking you, with prying minds
The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can't believe the things you say
I can't believe, I can't believe the price you pay
Nothing can save you
Justice is lost, justice is raped, justice is gone
Pulling your strings, justice is done
Seeking no truth, winning is all
Find it so grim, so true, so real
Lady justice has been raped, truth assassin
Rolls of red tape seal your lips, now you're done in
Their money tips her scales again, make your deal
Just what is truth? I cannot tell, cannot feel
The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can't believe the things you say
I can't believe, I can't believe the price we pay
Nothing can save us
Justice is lost, justice is raped, justice is gone
Pulling your strings, justice is done
Seeking no truth, winning is all
Find it so grim, so true, so real
Seeking no truth, winning is all
Find it so grim, so true, so real

I like how words are just randomly placed wherever they felt likeWell let's see what witty insights Republicans have on the issue!

So we're pretending like the image isn't directly representing what a REAL WOMAN (Dr. Blasey Ford) described being done to her? Because in the image it's a cartoon woman? Fucking wow.
Lmao why do conservative political cartoons always have a shit ton of labelsWell let's see what witty insights Republicans have on the issue!

I never said that. I was responding to thisWhat Real Women*
The cartoons' themes should not be ignored because of the current timing either. Ford isn't the only one whose sexual assault is blatantly disregarded when considering the adequacy of a political candidate.
Which is what Morrigan was agreeing with. Again, I have said before in this thread, but I am speaking as a survivor of sexual assault myself, so it is pretty clear that I understand that this isn't just one case of horrific injustice. It is not just a cartoon of a woman being raped though. It is a cartoon of Justice being raped by the Republican party.... and the latter is what the cartoonists wants to show.

There's probably a valuable discussion to be had but perhaps one of the first points worthy of consideration should be people who feel so moved by the image in a way that they weren't before considering why they needed to see this image of a woman made small to be able to fully empathize and why the words of survivors weren't enough. Perhaps if it inspired more people to analyze and understand how rape culture has increased their apathy to real human suffering to the point that they only connect to it fully when the pain is from their own visceral discomfort, then I might agree with your assessment of its value.
At it is, I think a lot of people who think they needed this for a jolt or wake up call are going to spend a whole lot of time never considering why that is or how to work on that within themselves to become better allies because retweets are all the validation they need that seeing this and knowing it's upsetting was surely enough.
So we're pretending like the image isn't directly representing what a REAL WOMAN (Dr. Blasey Ford) described being done to her? Because in the image it's a cartoon woman? Fucking wow.
What's amazing about this is how fucking lazy it is. Without the descriptive text the cartoon makes absolutely zero statement.Well let's see what witty insights Republicans have on the issue!

Because they wouldn't make sense without the labels, because they aren't proper representations of what they are trying to say... So instead they draw something random, then label it to make it seem like there is real meaning to their cartoons.Lmao why do conservative political cartoons always have a shit ton of labels
Lmao why do conservative political cartoons always have a shit ton of labels
The ability to recognise abstract concepts isn't a conservative trait.Lmao why do conservative political cartoons always have a shit ton of labels
Why would the pigs be unhappy about the dems joining them? Is the sign pointing out that the Kavanaugh confirmation is literally shit? This is a bad comicWell let's see what witty insights Republicans have on the issue!

It's like someone had to label this shit after the fact with descriptions the artist wrote on the side, and they had to figure it out themselves.Well let's see what witty insights Republicans have on the issue!

No one is saying that. Art can have more that one individual meaning. The poster I was agreeing with said it's not just about one woman being raped, but also heavy in symbolism of what the GOP is essentially doing to justice and/or multiple women in America.
So we're pretending like the image isn't directly representing what a REAL WOMAN (Dr. Blasey Ford) described being done to her? Because in the image it's a cartoon woman? Fucking wow.
I'm baffled by how some in this thread can't understand how art can represent multiple things at once. I mean that's like the point of the whole picture and why it works.
I'm guessing right after gun violence is addressed. How many more political cartoons of women getting assaulted are gonna be churned out before something actually gets done about it? It's a powerful piece but a little bit frustrating in a broader context.
So we're pretending like the image isn't directly representing what a REAL WOMAN (Dr. Blasey Ford) described being done to her? Because in the image it's a cartoon woman? Fucking wow.
My friend had a theory that Conservatives don't become artists, which is why their attempts at any kind of artist expression end up being so lame. lol
I think they excel at different forms of art. Mel Gibson is a fantastic film maker, for example. Drawing and painting, on the flip side, seems like an area where leftists dominate, at least with regards to political cartoons and imagery. My friend had a theory that Conservatives don't become artists, which is why their attempts at any kind of artist expression end up being so lame. lol
