Dissidia Duodecim includes the entire first game but applies the adjusted movesets and adds the new characters. Assets arent remastered, but the first game is essentially "remade" to take advantage of what was new (supports I believe, and maybe the world map exploration too? It's been a while.)

I guess you could make an argument for the second Persona 4 fighting game doing something similar (though that probably falls more in the "expansion" camp since I believe the story is 1:1)

I think Special Tee Shot definitely counts. It was a scrapped Super Famicom game that WAS released via Satellaview then remade with Kirby characters as Kirby Dream Course

Dead or Alive ultimate is a remake of DOA2. It came 4 years after the Dreamcast version or 5 after the arcade version.

Metal Max Xeno (PS4/Vita) was remade as Metal Max Xeno: Reborn (PS4/Switch) was but the remake looks awful.

I mean, it's not amazing looking, but I think the art style has charm.

The remake is worse.

EDIT: Caligula Effect is a good shout too, but that made less changes.

Does Caligula Effect count? It was on Vita and they remade everything on UE4 for PS4's "Overdose" two years later.

Haven't actually played the game so not sure how different... But an engine change constitute as a remake at the least?

It was specifically stated by the creators to be a remake.

I intentionally mentioned those two games to see who didn't read my post on the 1st page. Congrats.

Chain of Memories?

Going from an isometric GBA game released in Japan in November 2004, to a fully 3D PS2 game released in Japan in March 2007, less than three years later.

Oh! In addition to Ni No Kuni from DS to PS3 in the 7th generation, you've got Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories which came out on GBA and was remade for PS2, which are also both from the same generation.

Oh, someone mentioned it!

Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles (June 11, 2008 - Nintendo DS) -> Jake Hunter Detective Story: Memories of the Past (May 26, 2009 - Nintendo DS)

The first three cases were re-translated and three more cases were added.

Maybe it's been mentioned, Quest 64 was released for the N64 in 1998, then remade as Quest: Brian's Journey for the Gameboy in 2000. The Gamecube and Xbox wouldn't come out until the next year, the PlayStation 2 was still a few months off. The Dreamcast traveled backwards through time and was released after the N64 game.

2 GBA games become a remake compilation for PS2.

Earlier, 3 games for the Wonderswan were remade for the PS2 in 2000 through 2001. The original of the Wonderswan trilogy was released later in the same month as the PS2's debut.

Complicating matters further, the games that that you posted earlier - Original Generation 2 and Original Generations - adapt the story from these games as part of their crossover.

Holy crap, people really don't know what a remake is.

It looks horrible. How did they manage to make a Switch remake look worse than the vanilla version FOR VITA???

Give it time - Resident Evil will eventually do it. How many times has RE1 been remade at this point?

To add to the Super Robot Wars mentions, you can probably add the SRW4 to SRW F/F Final transition as well. F is basically a remake, but with all kinds of added things, from adding the Evangelion characters and voice acting to expanding the story enough that the remade version is split into two games. And there was both a PS1 version of 4 and a PS1 version of F/F Final only 2-3 years apart.

It is a bit murkier, but Shin Super Robot Wars and Super Robot Wars Alpha might also qualify.

Ah chain of memories, im always a little mad that they choose the PS2 version, at least to ms is inferior to the GBA version, the ps2 versione is basically "lets take a GBA game, put it in 3D and do not touch anything else"

My first thought was Link's Awakening, if 1) you consider DX a remake, and 2) you consider the GBC the same console generation.

I intentionally mentioned those two games to see who didn't read my post on the 1st page. Congrats.
There are 50 or 100 posts on a page. When reading a thread, people miss posts all the time, sometimes even if they think they've read them all. So threads like this inevitably have people that post a lot of repeat information; someone will say something that's already been said. It's happened to me, happened to a lot of people, and it's absolutely normal.

In other words, if someone repeats something you've said because they missed your post, don't sweat it. It's normal. It might not feel good sometimes (e.g. it might feel like people are ignoring you), but it has nothing to do with you, it's just the nature of a large forum.

I've seen claim on Wikipedia that Sega was responsible for this. They had a deal regarding Evangelion, so they approached Banpresto to post Super Robot Wars 4 - which was meant to be a conclusion of the entire franchise rather than just that timeline. Banpresto decided instead to remake the games, maybe because Evangelion's story is too out there to be just neatly slipped in to the existing one. F and F Final ended up being so big that they convinced Banpresto to continue the series.

The preset main characters also look completely different between 4 and F + F Final.

Going off of their appearances, you might try to map them up in a different order, like the long haired blue guy on the top with the long haired blue guy on the bottom, or two red-headed dudes. But the characters are actually displayed in the exact same order in both manuals. Their personalities, names, and birthdays aren't changed either.

Left page:
Lenonjayce Starlord - July 23rd, blood type O - Serious, kind, and hot blooded
Irmgalt Kazahara - November 10th, blood type A - Analytical but flirtatious
Hector Madison - May 4th, blood type AB - Kinda weird personality
Alvin Dostin - March 1st, blood type B - Cool and nihilistic

Right page:
Patricia Hackman - February 4th, blood type A - Serious, kind, and hot blooded
Grace Urigene - January 31st, blood type AB - Analytical but flirtatious
Mina Likeling - September 21st, blood type O - Kinda weird personality
Ring Mao - April 14th, blood type B - Cool and nihilistic

It just occurred to me that a lot of simulation style games could technically fit into this in that a sequel is largely indistinguishable from a remake - the same series would be expected to be handling the same subject matter, with equivalent content either reinterpreted or implemented with different mechanics.

For example, between the Genesis and SNES, there were four Daisenryaku games, which I imagine might be presented as different "versions" of Daisenryaku.

Tongue of the Fatman and Slaughter Sport probably count. They're often described as the same game and share concepts, but the way the gameplay is actually implemented is totally different and most of their rosters aren't shared. The two were released about a year apart:

I've never sat down to compare them, but MechWarrior on the SNES is apparently also similar case where the games kind of seem like they're the same and are often thought of as being just different versions but they actually have different stories, mechs, and so on.

Different consoles in the same generation, but Final Fantasy IV got both DS and PSP remakes, with the DS being a ground-up 3D remake (and the basis for the mobile and Steam version) while the PSP one was a remade version of the GBA game, compiled with a remade version of its sequel and a new interlude to bridge the two games.

The DS one is the better game.

Somewhere...

My bad for missing your post but you don't have to be this aggressive, lol.

(FWIW I was on mobile and at that point was juggling multiple tabs trying to remember whether it was Caligula or Dark Rose Valkyrie that got a remaster)

A lot of those pornographic Atari games had the racy material stripped out and rereleased as wholesome entertainment.

Same with those Bible games on NES, many of which were reskinned versions of non-biblical games.

Suppose that doesn't really count but I find it interesting!
