What was the news cycle on about 10 days ago?

Children in cages.
The horrible conditions in these border camps.

Trump says racist thing.

Now the whole cycle is about if trump is a racist.
The conversation has moved on.

How do we fight this

People thinking he's a racist isn't exactly a good thing. He's not some genius. He's an incompetent buffoon.

Hmm yes the racist putting children in death camps sure did play us by *checks notes* reminding us how he's a racist who put children in death camps.

He's a moron, but I think people focusing on him being a buffoon is a little dangerous. He's not a clown.

Fascist leaders naturally lead to inefficiency because doing a good job was never their goal to start with; their goal is to try to keep themselves in power. Trump's got some of that, but moreover, his main goal is to achieve his racist agenda. When it comes to things like repealing everything Obama ever put into place regardless of what it is or threatening immigrants, he's not as incompetent.

But we already all know he's a racist.
The ones that say he's not, are also racist.

No ones mind is getting changed with this whole Trump V Squad stuff.

The criticism of his immigration policies were rooted in his racism. Him being openly racist and telling people to "go back" where they came from isn't going to make people forget about his racist immigration policies.

If you're in the US you should organise.

There are very likely demonstrations and organisations looking to support people targeted by ICE and the Trump administration that are near where you live.

This might mean protesting or donating or providing your free time to volunteer or organise or even something as simple as registering people to vote and get involved in the political process. I dunno it depends on your personal time and resources.

Trump talks about whatever Fox News is currently pushing. There is no higher level thought than that.

Any 'masterminds' left in that admin are busy pilfering whatever they can.

Sadly it''s not like the majority of the country cares about everyone in the concentration camps anyway under the best of circumstances. Him making it about himself probably helps the cause within the public consciousness as much or more than media coverage of the camps

But we already all know he's a racist.

You say this, but his approval always slowly climbs whenever he stays quiet for long enough. The lean voters who led to a ton of flipped districts in 2018 are the kinds of people who don't generally think anybody is racist, and so they only get flighty when he says shit like this.

But it did slow the momentum on that cycle.

like it had been a back burner issue for months now, and then it got back in the limelight, thanks Congresswomen visits, but the conversation moved away from the actual issue, to the known fact and pointless "is he a racist" conversation.

Or the debt this year being boosted by $1T by the WHITE HOUSE'S estimation.

Or that he's being damned harder for the illegal campaign finance felony.

Or that he's lost more court cases.

Or footage of him creeping it up with notorious pedophile, blackmailer, and shadily-funded criminal Epstein.

Thing is though, is that before he did this, the Dems were at each others' throats and then he united them via naked racism, which also sent a schism thru the GOP with a damning choice to defend the corpulent crook and risk electoral death, or to scream it's electoral death and risk being banished and shamed by the tribe. So thinking of it that way, THIS is the only card he has left, or possibly that his handlers and henchmen have left, or that they can't control him, nor does he feel in control and will do anything it takes to get any back.

We have to vote out all of the Republicans.

Bout time someone else figured this out.

It's not him that's playing us, he doesn't give a shit, it's the news giants that have to maintain a revolving door of controversy and bullshit to keep people paying attention to their advertisements, and the giants get to basically dictate the national dialogue that all the smaller sources of journalism then have to waste time and energy addressing less they seem out of touch or irreverent, and what's left of generally ignored because you can't blame people for not just staying constantly mired in all the fucked up shit going on, so the big story of the day is frequently ones limit.

Vote out every Republican everywhere. That's how you fight this. That's how you beat this.

Exactly! I seriously can't understand why people convinced themselves everything Trump does is some calculated move. No offense, but some of you who constantly think this are as laughably gullible as his supporters. He just says dumb shit. He didn't trick anyone unless, for some reason, you're incapable of juggling multiple thoughts at the same time

The news cycle 5 days ago was that the dems were splintering. If anything Trump jumping in made it worse for him.

Isn't the media a reflection of what interests us tho?

Ratings metrics etc.
I'm sure every news organization knows if a story is worthy to keep in the cycle.
Especially with online metrics.
They don't give a shit what people are interested in, just what props up their numbers. CNN just had a bunch of Trumpettes or whatever explaining how he isn't a racist.

He's a racist, and his bullshit is way too fucking good for their ratings.

Well the camps had been around for months, but the needle for impeachment actually moved on the racist tweets. The Dems are starting to wake up, hopefully. Kids in cages didn't stir them half as much as this did.

2 1/2 years in and there are still people who look at any of the stupid shit Trump does and assume it's a part of some sort of plan of his. SMH.

He's as dumb as he seems. Dumber even. He doesn't think further than whatever topic Fox and Friends are covering that morning which he then rants about on Twitter. That's it.

Voting will do it. You have to vote. Join a vote recruitment group locally. If one doesn't exist, start one.

I think it's important that we've got the media coming around to actually calling him and his words racist instead of some other minimizing phrase. They've been beating around the bush by avoiding that word for a long time.

You can't fight it, corporate profit based media will keep being the ally of authoritarianism until climate change does us in.

This is only the beta test before the real deal.

Actually vote, volunteer in your community on behalf of the Democratic nominee (twitter 'clapbacks' don't count) and don't tear apart any of the likely last 5 Dem candidates when your person of choice doesn't win.

He didn't play anyone. This is probably the most damage I've seen trump take for his racism, which is pretty insane because he's been saying shit like this since day 1.
