Things haven't changed much, sadly. Still the same "Company X betrayed us loyal fans, I will never buy another game from them" bullshit. It's perhaps even worse now with Twitter since "fans" can directly engage and insult devs.

For those who don't remember / were not around when this happened, this was the final nail in the coffin of previously Playstation 3rd party exclusives on PS1 and PS2 going multiplatform since the market was now divided between PS3 and Xbox. Final Fantasy would go multiplatform for the first time ever and it was the biggest RPG series until then so it was a huge deal at the time - though in the end it proved pretty insignificant since WRPGs became much more popular in that gen and FF13.. sucked.
