Yuji Horii's second ever game, Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin Ohotsuku ni Kiyu, is coming to Switch and PC, developed by G-MODE. A classic murder mystery adventure game, it will contain new scenario content written by Horii, voice acting, and other upgrades. It's currently only announced for Japanese release this Summer, but hopefully since we've been receiving other older adventure games like Famicom Detective Club, we'll see this in English too.

I've always wanted to try this game. I really hope there's a translation some day.

It's crazy how many good older Japanese games are STILL completely unknown to us in the West.

Huh I'd figure you'd start with Portopia first if you were going to remake old Hori games.

New Trailer to announce the Japanese release date, Sept. 12th~

Still no word on any releases in regions outside Japan, but the game will have English and Chinese language options, which is amazing.

Also the physical release in Japan will include the original game, so I wonder if that will also be available in English and Chinese as well.

So if this never gets officially released outside of Japan (for some reason), you can still play it in English without needing to import it if you change your Switch's region to Japan to access the Japanese e-Shop, right?

Yuji Horii seems to have a habit of translating his game to other language but not release it out of Japan. DQ10 Offline is getting Chinese and Korean translation, yet the Steam version is region locked in Japan. You work with SE for long enough, you start to make weird business decison like SE.

I don't think these games are actually related to this one, are they?
AFAIK they're not related at all. Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin is a 1984 game and the first Retro Mystery Club game released in 2019. Having a look at the Japanese Wikipedia page for the latter, I can't find anything about it that's in relation to Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin either, other than the fact the Retro games try to emulate the artstyle and gameplay of 80s games like it.

They aren't just emulating the art style. It's the same artist, Kiyokazu Arai.

They're not related canonically at all. Two separate IPs, though the Retro Mystery Club games are of course an homage.
Thanks for the confirmation. I wasn't entirely sure as there's very little info on these games in English, and my Japanese proficiency is pitiful, lol.

I've known about the Retro Mystery Club games previously, wasn't aware the 2nd one had already released in English though, so I'll be adding that to my wishlist and grabbing it and the first game eventually. And I'm glad to see the Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin remake getting English language support, I'll probably import a Japanese copy assuming it doesn't release here otherwise.
