Having played a considerable amount of titles over the course of this console generation, one of the most notable disappoints for me was The Order 1886.
Mostly because of how much I fell in love with the alternate history premise, setting, and that sick art direction. Conceptually, it really embodies that quintessential high fidelity "Sony exclusive."The game design however, left a lot to be desired. Despite having such a bold and distinctive presentation, the gameplay felt too derivative and too linear and really dragged down its potential.

I generally agree with the criticism that the developers were more caught up in making a viewing experience more so than an interactive experience. I would love to see that wrong made right as there is so much potential in turning it around into a premiere Sony franchise. I've heard others liken it to Assassin's Creed, with its similar alternate history themed action-adventure. I would love to see Sony breath new second life into this IP, whether it's through a first party developer or another joint venture with a 3rd party developer.

With a world that fascinating, I would much rather see it move away from linear design, and reimagined with interactive, dense open environments with giving players the freedom to explore and interact with elements in the greater surrounding areas beyond the context of the narrative."If Naughty Dog created Assassin's Creed" would be another awkward way of describing it, I guess lol.

What do you think? Is there untapped potential in this IP? If so, what would be your ideal scenario?

Wasn't the best game but I really like the setting I hope they do something in that world.

The shooting was functional and the world interesting. Don't need a reboot, just a sequel that broadly improves on everything.

Somewhat. I didn't finish the game (did the warehouse district after the zeppelin) as I didn't like how "cinematic" it was and the werewolves not being a bigger part of the game. Cool universe though.

l would. Just... add a backstory, flesh out the game more. Add a multiplayer and Im sure it'd do well. With that said, maybe a sequel that incorporates all that stuff would be better.
For all its flaws, it was sure a looker. And yet I didn't see alot of praise directed at it even for that aspect of it.

No, man. The best part of that game was the way the shooting felt, and it was designed in such a way as to downplay that shooting as much as possible. The characters were dull as dishwater, the writing was completely unmemorable, the story went nowhere and the setting was just Underworld but less self-aware. There's nothing about it worth bringing back without rebooting it so completely that it might as well just be a new IP anyway.

Just make a sequel, the game was far from perfect but I liked the setup for another game that we will never get.

Judging from developer interviews, Ready at Dawn doesn't have much self-awareness and don't seem to find fault in their core gameplay design and (awful) story and world-building.

So not only is it not happening, I don't have much faith it'll be any better than the first one.

The Order was the epithome of "Image over subsrttance" and recent years showed that games like that don't work. It's unlikely to see them rebooting them or people having interest in it after what 1886 was.

I would prefer a soft reboot.
Continue the story but open up the game design and drop the qtes.

For what it's worth, I really liked the first game besides its flaws. It had a very interesting story and world with really cool guns.
And it looked amazing.

Do a sequel.
Add light rpg elements as hub worlds, sidequests and leveling.
Remove most if not all of qt events
Black bars out outside during gameplay.

The premise was flawed from the beginning, I dont get why people think they made a mistake half way through or something. They did exactly what they wanted and turns out it was a dumb idea. Move on to something more worth everyone's time

Not talented enough storytellers to go to Hollywood, not talented enough game designers to actually make a valuable game

Unlikely. Probably would've worked better as an episodic release and as a much less scripted third person cover shooter.

Honestly the world is great, visuals obviously great, even the combat is good when it's not interrupted.

I would love a sequel that has more gameplay and less cinematic

No, Ready at Dawn has found their true calling with VR. I'd like to see them make more games like Lone Echo. But a sequel rather than a reboot would be better if they delved into more of this universe.

Yep, absolutely.

The Order 1886 -

Great protagonist and performance - check
Interesting lore and weaponry - check
Beautiful world and graphics - check

Good game play - nope
Good story - nope

Seriously, this game is an easy win with some improvements in game-play and story. There's definitely potential, but I feel like RAD would have to prove they can push the game in the game-play department before Sony ever considered it.

As for another studio taking the game on... I don't know, I feel like that would kind of be fucked up. I think RAD can do it, especially if they can get help from other first party studios under Sony's umbrella.

The gameplay itself was fine (except from that godawful sneaking mission), it's just that there was barely any.

I would like a sequel. I thought the first game was great. Gunplay was great, it looked gorgeous and the story was getting interesting. The first game just needed to be longer and have more boss fights.

Nope but I will take one only to get access successor of the YouTube video from the Mexican guy acting like a developer from RAD. This was the most fun that came out of the game.

I don't think linearity is a problem. Linearity is a tool, not a negative. There's no such thing as "too linear" if you curate the experience to be the best possible. Sure, some people may not like that but guess what, not everyone likes every type of game.

I never played The Order: 1886 so I can't speak on gameplay/story first-hand, nor do I know much of the premise. But what would absolutely be a step in the right direction would be to mix narrative worldbuilding with gameplay. Add something that sets The Order apart from other shooters. Some crazy alternate history weapons? Different twists on gameplay? All that stuff.

Story improvements can be done anywhere so that's useless as a blanket suggestion.

It's very unlikely, but if they did they don't need to reboot it. Just make longer and with more gameplay, along with the requisite general improvements you hope for in sequels.

They won't. People didn't connect with the gameplay or world / story in large enough numbers. It would just be baggage if they tried to make it a franchise instead of just doing something new.

It's like expecting a Quantum Break sequel. They'd do like what Remedy is doing and just take it down a new path in Control.

The setting and art direction alone deserve a second chance. No way we're getting it though.

It's a shame, its a game that would've benefited tremendously from sony's current "longer development time" strategy.

The setting is cool. But a boring linear "cinematic" tps really did nothing for me. Make it a semi open world rpg and I'm very interested

I don't think Ready at Dawn has the chops to make a great console game, so no thanks. Maybe if it was made by a different studio with an entirely different approach I will consider it.

Not sure why people are saying no. It's a reboot meaning not only do we get more of that beautifully crafted world and those great characters but they could potentially create an amazing gameplay experience as well. They know people weren't too thrilled with the short campaign filled with quick time events. I mean I didn't mind it but there were a lot who did.

Because using that logic we'd be seeing reboots of hundreds of forgotten games and IPs that did one or two things right, but we don't.

While I did love the setting, and parts of the world building, it was an idea wasted on a game that wanted to be a movie instead. And I seriously doubt Sony would welcome RAD back with open arms for a sequel after the game's sales performance and generally lackluster reception.

It's dead, no use pining after it.

Because a lot of people don't even agree that the characters or story were any good either. The only thing the game has going for it is beautiful graphics with some interesting concepts. For $60? That's hardly enough and with as bad a time as I had with the original game, I'd be hard pressed to give a sequel or a reboot another shot.

I'd definitely buy a sequel/reboot. I really liked The Order 1886 and I think it's a good, but flawed games. I think the gameplay was fun and the weapons were great. I have only two negatives to level against the game.

1. The lame Werewolf fights.

2. The game ended abruptly without closure.

I don't mind the length overall. Short games can still be good games, but this one was short and didn't end on a satisfactory note.

No thanks don't care please make something more interesting that's not a shitty 6 hours long movie with an incomplete story.

The story of 1886 was so bad that when it ended abruptly I didn't say ''Wait that's it?'' instead I said ''Oh thank god, I was worried there's gonna be more.''

Alright sequel then.

Fair enough. I'd like to know what those people do consider good characters and story though.

Wouldn't the whole point of doing a remake/reboot be to not make the same mistakes? I don't get the logic of some people thinking they'd make the exact same game again.

The gunplay was actually good but there's so little of it and they want to take away your control every goddamn minute. A bigger, proper level design would do wonders for the game, add in a horde mode. A new protagonist will be great as well unlike the overly serious one we had
