I was lucky enough to score a PS5 earlier this year, i don't have any issue paying $70 for a new game, and I highly enjoy most Sony 1st party exclusives. But since I got it my PS5 has been exclusively used to wrap up my backlog of PS4 exclusives, and this is 100% because there is currently no way to play a PS5 game on a controller with paddles/back buttons. I'm an avowed Xbox Elite paddle user, and I use a variety of hardware adapters (primarily the Brook Xone SE) to make use of it on PS4 and Switch systems, but thanks to Sony's pigheaded decision to not allow DualShock4 usage in PS5 games there's is really no option currently available that enables paddle usage on any controller.
I downloaded the Stranger of Paradise demo last night to check it out, but I felt like I was playing with one hand tied behind my back; have to take my thumb off the right stick to dodge or parry unless I contort my hands into Lovecraftian geometries? What is this, an N64 game? I really want to play Demon's Souls, I really want to play Ratchet & Clank, but i know that if I do so now it will be a sub-par experience for me without the use of paddles that, at this point, have become a part of my muscle memory and I legitimately flail around in games without their use.
Sony has made not one peep about releasing a Back Button attachment for the DualSense like they did for the DS4, and the most that we've heard from Scuf is "we're working on it". It's all the more frustrating to know that Sony could solve it in an instant with a simple software update to enable DS4 controllers to play PS5 games. I can take or leave the haptics and resistive technology of the DualSense, but it will NEVER be a controller that I have any interest in using until it has paddles added.
This is mostly just a complaint thread, but curious if anyone else is aware of any solutions that might work; i've heard rumors that some 3rd party peripherals like racing wheels that identify as PS4 controllers DO work in PS5 games, so it may be possible to get an adapter work if it presents as one of these via one of the hardware adapters like TitanTwo, CronusMax, or GIMX, but I haven't been able to find a lot info on people successfully doing so.
Really, though, just release a new Back Button, Sony, and it would be even better if it has 4 buttons instead of just 2, but I'll take what I can get at this point.
