Just to let people know these are my specs
5900x (4.9ghz boost clock)
32gb 3600 corsair rgb pro ram
RTX 3080,
1tb NVME Samsung 980 pro.
So yeah, straight out of the gate my impressions were not good, the game launches with HDR on and at 720p (my native res is 4k and I have HDR in Windows turned off) this seems like such a basic thing however, it's a minor setback, so I turn HDR off and exit the game after changing resolution and graphics settings, done.
Now, back in the game, I have 5 fps in the menu...turns out DX12 just flat out refuses to work, so I change it back to DX11 (to be fair it was on DX11 as default, my assumption was DX12 would be better, however I know this is hit and miss so again, minor problem and it's fixed.)
Then, when launching the game, for some reason, this game HAMMERS my cpu even more than Prime95 when it's compiling shaders, under prime95 and numerous other stress tests the max temp my CPU hits is about 74 degrees, Battlefront during shader compilation? 84 degrees! I mean, that's still within a safe range for Ryzen and during normal gameplay it's fine but why such a high spike in temp? It's a good stress test for CPU stability I suppose lol.
Now is where the real issues begin...I try to connect to the EA servers, takes me about 12 attempts after allowing it through my firewall and it finally connects, then I search for a match, I am sat in a lobby waiting for 15 people to join, I sit there about 20 mins, still 10 people need to join, I am confused, is the game already this dead? If so it begs the question, why not include bots so you can, you know, actually experience the maps and the game? I know I am late to the party here but surely EA still want people playing the game?
Anyway, I back out and hit quick game and after about another 10 mins I get into a game, runs smooth as butter, looks fantastic, wow, this is incredible, honestly felt like a real Star Wars experience, the maps look cool, all the stuff going on around the maps is fantastic! Here is the issue though, this game is NOT noob friendly whatsoever.
I say this as someone who has played FPS games my whole life, I am pretty well versed in competitive shooters, have been playing them since Doom deathmatch days, this game is BRUTAL for someone new to the game, it is an absolute meat grinder, spawn die, spawn die, spawn die.
Don't get me wrong, you will get kills, I got like 20 but the amount of times I died just became an exercise in pure frustration, think the top player on the other team had like 65 kills!
I have started to really dislike BR games lately but when compared to this kind of experience I actually see why they have become so popular in recent years, the gameplay loop here is so frustrating and I am not the type of person to get frustrated easy, I barely stepped out of spawn before I started to just get obliterated.
Recent Battlefield games have given me a similar sort of feeling so maybe it's just the way Dice designs maps now? (I used to LOVE Battlefield, played the heck out of Bad Company 2, old school Battlefield Vietnam and the original Battlefield games) but it just feels like the pacing here is more, well, like COD than Battlefield.
I was hoping I could take in some of the atmosphere of the maps with Star Wars, have a slower paced game, this is what brings me to my overall point, I would LOVE to just play against bots, is it possible? Does anybody know of a way I could just populate these maps with bots and play? I love the experience of the multiplayer I just don't get more than 20 seconds to appreciate it before I die and I really don't want to dedicate 300 hours into the game just to start enjoying the experience.
Does anybody else share my frustrations or am I alone here?
