I haven't been keeping up with republic politics whatsoever outside of, y'know, the obvious ones in Washington. So I could be totally off-base, but I don't think there are any republicans being groomed for the presidency right now. With the 2020 debates looming, who on earth could the republicans bring to the Presidential Race if Trump is impeached?

Good luck finding 20 Republicans in the senate to kick him out after impeachment. Trump isn't going anywhere. But to answer your question, they have plenty of candidates. Half the field from 2016 for starters. Several prominent Governors.

Probably still Trump. Hell, if they remove him, doesn't that knock this term off of his limit? So he could technically have 2.9 terms?

Pence. His career is over regardless, he is a name, and it is too short notice/no one is going to want to follow Trump this close

They'll definitely just run Trump again and make him the VP candidate if need be

Nikki Haley. They can use her slimy ass as "the one who always opposed Trump" who worked under him.

Nobody will hold her accountable for her pulling us out of the UN Human Rights Council and the real reason she did it, I'm sure...

Pence will probably take over as the nominee but they'll just have to concede this election. And it will heat up the democratic one because that contest will basically be deciding who is president.

Big if. Assuming impeached means full impeachment and removal. If he's only impeached by the house and exonnerated by the Senate hell run again.

If he doesn't take down pence with him, it'll be Pence.

Otherwise Republicans have nothing. Trouboe with a cult of personality like Trump is that when the personality goes down so does the movement.

With enough time a person like Tucker Carlson could legitimately motivate Fox viewers to vote for him. But there wouldn't be enough time. He may also not really believe the shit he says on tv.

Pence goes up as a sacrifice, or Romney easily gets the party's support as their "return to normalcy" candidate and they seriously try to contend with Warren/Biden/Sanders.

You cannot run for public office again after being removed from office due to impeachment.

Actually you can. After removal they have to add the additional sanction of ineligibility

Edit: and even if he was mad ineligible for president he could still run for mayor, sheriff, governor, senator, etc.

Nah, you can only be elected President twice
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

Trump will be impeached but he won't be removed from office (keep in mind these are separate things!). So it'll be Trump. But even if Trump does get removed from office, it'll be Pence because the Republican Party won't have enough time to hold an actual primary

Whoever they run would be a sacrificial candidate. They would have a hard time turning out Trump's base without Trump, and swing voters would be soured on the Republican Brand. They could very likely recover in time for 2024, but the odds would be astronomically against them in 2020.
