The PS5 sold more than the PS4, Switch and Xbox Series combined and even the PS5 for the last year, crazy.

That's insane numbers. Obviously Japan is PS5 heavy, is there any other country that's this high in PS5/4 only sales?
I feel like I read only really the US has a evenish PS/Xbox split? Even the UK seems to be moving more towards PS with sales numbers recently

In my circles, Xbox is completely dead. Everyone I play/talk about games with has either a Switch, PC or PS5 and the one person I know that went with the XSX regrets it, lol.
Yeah, everyone I know has a PS5, some have both, but I also think the XBX/S is ignored as not everyone in my group owns one, so they can't play it with us

The PS5 was the best-selling console for the entire year in Sweden, in 2020

The US for roughly the last year has been 2:1 in favour of PS5, a larger split than last gen ever was.

Yeah, i live in east EU and here we don't even have official Xbox support. Stuff like xcloud don't exist for us. We have to register accounts to other country xbl and use VPN to be able to pay for game pass. It's headache. XD

On other hand Sony offfers all their services in my country and buying that console is no brainer for most people..

Xbox is losing even more ground in mainland Europe than the xbox one did. Thats nuts.

A large reason why they are going hard in on PC, I suspect. Much easier to get users in Europe that way.

Not surprised at all about the PC decline. Prices for parts are an utter piss take atm.

there is no way microsoft can look at this and think its fine.

xbox is losing relevancy in europe rapidly, and it was already playstation dominated before.

I don't know. PC gamers are pretty much "Steam or bust" so their margin is minuscule compared to a console ecosystem. But increasing console numbers would mean true console exclusive, so they're in an impasse. That's on them though, for the end of 360/Xbox One politics.

Well they are probably hoping that CoD and Diablo and whatnot on gamepass gets more people using it on the PC via an app. The offerings get so good that more people sign up because it just becomes a no brainer. Or maybe the long term plan is to get gamepass on Steam. I am sure they have plans though, because they appear to be doing verry little when it comes to consoles in Europe, to the point where localisation can be a problem.

Yeah, you may be right that there is a grand plan somewhere, but something must be done for the console side, or else those finance guys at Microsoft will see (if they don't see it already) how much money they leave on the table by not having future games releasing on Playstation.

Someone needs to step in and protect the consumer from Microsoft's inevitable monopoly in the market of cloud gaming! STAT!

And yet, Sony is still not satisfied with sales of PS5 during this financial year :D

Extremely damning for MS. They need to push their box to grow gamepass subs and all I'm reading in every report is that hardware sales are down YoY.

I'm really not sure how they can stop losing more ground to their rivals.

And PlayStation's first party studios have yet to release a a non-cross gen, non-remake PS5 banger. Though, some would say Ratchet was. Edit: Sorry I forgot about you, my dear Returnal.

What will the numbers look like once Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog (ugh), Sony Santa Monica, and the others start to release PS5 games.

Optimistically, they will exclusively offer the runner-up to the RPG of the year 2023.
So maybe that will move the needle ;)

Laptops in the ~€3000 range are at times equipped with processors that can match an RTX 3090 and i7-13700k in a 3kg form factor :p. Although they've dropped in price considerably so you don't have to get a 3000 eur model, but if you want bells and whistles such as a miniLED screen then you're going to pay more.

Their console focused exclusive games output has been worse than even the Xbox One, that's the main reason I think. Apparently Xbox Game Pass is not enough reason to buy an Xbox Series for. Although I think Xbox will be just fine when the larger upcoming exclusives start dropping, the first major one being Starfield.

For consoles? Big doubt it will be a drastic shift. Maybe a short burst.

But the game will sell well. Both copies and gamepass subs. And that is great for Xbox.

Yeah. Maybe it's different in other Euro countries but it sure feels like Xbox is a non-factor. Here in Belgium it's also just PS + Switch domination like Germany.

It's not just that. But how they do branding and how they promote the visibility of the brand as well. Let's have a look at Hifi Rush and Redfall from this year. Unless you manually checked who was developing and making and owning those two games, you would not have known that they are Xbox games.

Sony, EA, other publishers like to immediately enwrap their products with their known and visible branding, whether that is Sony Playstation Studios, Sony, Playstation, EA Games, EA Sports, Electronic Arts, EA Originals, and similar. This puts an immediate weight and brand recognition strength around those games. There was practically no mention of Xbox anywhere on Hifi Rush or Redfall unless you spent time staring at the credits.

That is I think their main problem. They must ensure and communicate that Starfield is a game by Xbox. Not Bethesda or Zenimax. I mean, flipping hell, their "limited integration" approach to things can only work so much They've owned Minecraft for 10 years now, and nobody thinks Minecraft is an Xbox game. Literally one of the biggest games, and they haven't done much to strengthen their brand through it.
