I just did a long vacation in Hawaii. It was awesome. But it was also incredibly expensive. And in retrospect, I'm thinking not really worth it. You can get pretty much the exact same experience in many parts of the Caribbean, Costa Rica, or Mexico for like half the cost or less. Also, depending on where you fly in from, a much shorter plane ride.
To be fair, I don't surf, and I don't really care about the WW2 monument. I mostly just ate, drank, snorkled, did some hiking and hung out at the beaches.
I guess if you're afraid of Spanish speakers (EDIT: this is a joke) or you don't want to/can't leave the country for whatever reason, it's good. But otherwise there's many other places in Latin America that offer the same sort of experience.
