In the spam of one month, we're getting:
- Ori Will of the Wisps ... 89
- Nioh 2 ... 86
- Animal Crossing: New Horizon ... 92
- Persona 5 Royal ... 95
- Doom: eternal ... 90
- Half Life: Alyx
- Resident Evil 3
- Final Fantasy VII Remake

That's 7 potentially 85+ meta score games less than one month apart, this is, as far as I can remember the most stacked(quality content-wise) release period in the industry ever!

Edit: updating the game list with OC scores, not a surprise but everyone landing above 85 so far.

Don't forget Ori! But yes I agree, the next few weeks are gonna absolutely decimate my wallet and freetime. And Trials of Mana in late April looks pretty great to me too!

I would be very surprised if Ori isn't 85+. You gotta add it to the list.

Don't know about most stacked ever but it's damn good, and the OP doesn't even list P5 Royal or Ori.

October 26 to November 23 2004 was
  • Half Life 2
  • Counter-Strike: Source
  • World of Warcraft
  • Halo 2
  • Jak 3
  • Metroid Prime 2
  • Need for Speed: Underground 2
  • Metal Gear Solid 3
  • Ratchet & Clank: up Your Arsenal
  • Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
  • GTA: San Andreas

And, to boot, in the couple months prior to that, you also had:
  • Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
  • Katamari Damacy
  • Sims 2
  • Burnout 3
  • Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen
  • Viewtiful Joe
  • Fable
  • Sly Cooper 2
  • Pikmin 2

(I think late '98 and late '07 would also be contenders)

What's the list there ?

Off the top of my head,

GTA SA
Halo 2
Metroid Prime 2
MGS3
Half life 2
WoW

Some of the most legendary games, among other equally great stuff that I am missing.

I will always remember that one EGM issue with all the reviews of 10s and 9s and with variant covers spotlighting each highlight.

Persona 5 Royal then FF7 then freaking Sakura Wars.

I'm packed jeez.

In a 30 day window, January 2017:

Jan 12: Danganronpa V3
Jan 20: DQ8 (3DS), Gravity Rush 2
Jan 24: Kingdom Hearts 2.8, RE7, Tales of Berseria, Yakuza 0
Feb 7: Nioh
I mean Yakuza 0 was good.

List would probably look better if you got rid of V3.

Most average month in gaming thread ——> that way.

Jesus, that's the month you decided to pick out?

I hadn't really thought about it but seeing November 04 with Half Life 2, Halo 2, WoW, MGS and GTA nothing is touching that.

It's a great month, but everyone could argue about whether it's the best or not for weeks on end and never reach a conclusion. I think we can mostly agree that it's going to be up there with a lot of the past examples/suggestions above?

It's not a great list to the average person imo. FFVII / RE3 are Remakes of 20 year old games, Nioh is quite niche, Ori is on a console a lot of people simply don't own, Alex needs expensive VR most people don't own and Animal Crossing is very marmite.

This year as a whole is great once you add the above to Cyberpunk, TLOU II, Ghost of Tsushima, Halo Infinite and possibly Breath of the Wild 2.

I'm only interested in Animal Crossing and DOOM Eternal, but the fact that they both come out the same day has me sweating already.

And this is a determinate why? Are you one of those people who thought RE2 shouldn't have been up for GotY because it was "just a remake."

As much as these titles are overhauling I don't see why that distinction matters they're pretty much brand new games that share story beats.

The only one I really care about here is Half-Life Alyx.
Ich mean will play/try most of these games eventually, but I don't see anything truly special here, except Alyx.

That's my opinion as well, there nothing I am close to purchasing Day One, would of picked Half Life: Alex but VR is not worth it for my eyesight even though I own a capable PC.
