A day late but released May 24th, 2016 🥳. 8 is an odd number to celebrate but 2 years is far away.

Say something nice about this Modern Classic™. Feels like a bit longer than that to me, but still watching the game weekly.

I have fond memories of the first few days after launch where I hadn't learned any of the characters names yet, so I would just refer to them as like "Grey Fox" for Genji, "Call of Duty" for Soldier 76, "Medic" for Mercy, etc. I had a whole list of made up names that quickly went away as I learned the character's actual names.

I mostly played this game in the beta, I think. After that I'd load it up whenever it had free weekends. Been years now though, and with how different it must be now, I can't care to go back to it.

Loved it the first few years but ended up falling off. Overwatch 2 sadly didn't bring me back for more than a handful of matches.

Really loved it for maybe the first year of its existence and then fell off hard, as did everyone else I knew who was playing it. Tried to get into Overwatch 2 with people who were way more into the first game than I was and I don't think any of us hung around after the first month.

I was more into Paladins. Played it a bit but the TTK was too abrupt, and I much preferred 1 Champion per game in Paladins. Haven't played either in years though. May give Overwatch a truly robust shake one day but it seems like the boat is gone on that.
The porn is pretty good though.

8 painful years playing
why are we still here? just to suffer?

All that said, one of my GOAT multiplayer games and a modern classic despite the higher ups many attempts to fuck it all up, some of them successfully

The millionaire that should be a billionaire, but damn when you finally roll a competitive evenly matched game, it's peak online gaming for me, an endless well of cool character interactions and concepts via gameplay, with one of the strongest ensemble casts in gaming, despite once again, all the efforts from Blizz to NOT expand on characters and plot that people actively wanted to see expanded upon.

I fucking hate this game.
But yet it's my most played game probably ever. My friends and I ask every night why we play and it's business as usual the following day. Lol.

I'm crying because it's true, Overwatch is the personification of a toxic relationship in multiplayer video games, and I was still playing it earlier today, shifting ever between "fuck this game" and "VENTURE SO FUN, DRILL GOES BRRRR"

I've started playing again and I turned off chat and don't take the game seriously and have a blast with it that way.

You have to mute voice and disable chat now. Because even typing wtf will get you banned these days.

Do they still give you that little notification that reporting a player worked but they won't tell you anything else? Because I haven't seen that in ages and I always report the racists / homophobes / etc.. I just assumed nothing was happening.

My favorite FPS of all time.

At its peak, OW is a gameplay masterpiece.

I'm just sad it never lived up to what it could've been.

Seems like yesterday I was in the original beta. Love the game through its ups and downs. Still play almost daily and likely will for a long time.

I'm not sure. I reported someone saying n-word a while back and never got any notification. I think it's because I'm in southeast asia and no one cares about n-word here, so I was the only one who reported the player.

Their automated system pretty much just relied on a number of reports received at once. So if a 4 stack decided to gang up on you by reporting, you'll get banned like a day later. I know because I got banned 3 times this year alone. Like, I never even got so much of a warning in Overwatch prior or in any other multiplayer games.

Haven't played much of OW2, mostly because I fell off and it's hard to get back in, but the 1st 2 years of OW were the best MP experience I ever had and even with some of the changes later in life it's still top 3 for me.

I was about half a year late, but still 7.5 years of me playing Overwatch? Wow. I still do enjoy the game. Lack of PvE is sad I admit. But I don't get the fervent hate some have over OW2. If you enjoyed Overwatch, even if you preferred 6v6 or even 6v6 no role lock, you must enjoy the fundamental game enough to still like 5v5 role lock. Or you just have played enough hundreds/thousands of hours and are ready to move on. But to say 5v5 ruined Overwatch forever and you can never play again, that cannot be true. It's just been around so long you lost your passion, and that's fine. I replaced Comp largely with QP because I lost the Comp passion. 7-8 years is a long time.

I still come back to it every now and again. Playing pharah well is one of the most satisfying feelings I've had in gaming. Very upset that they fucked with her hover jets in the last update and now she's practically useless

That first year was special where everything was new and exciting and the community had good vibes. Then it all went downhill fast.

I remember being a diehard TF2 player and being so hyped when Blizzard announced a hero shooter. OW1 didn't really end up being what I hoped it would be but it was still fun for a while until the CC got out of control. OW2 is pretty fun still though

The first 2 or 3 years were absolutely magical. The fandom and excitement were just so good. I loved the fan music, comic, cosplay, and the theories on where the story would go.

This was mostly me as well, except so much of my fun in tf2 over the years was from user created content that I knew wouldn't be in ow to the same extent, so I just spent years hoping for a custom map maker to release lol.

I remember my local con is full of Overwatch cosplayers and fanartists, I get to know a lot of new people and even landed a few job. Every time a new character was introduced the fandom was feverish. It was a bloody good time, man. Now my girlfriend's Overwatch fanmerch aren't moving at all, they're basically freebies.

Used to hop in for Quick Match with some friends in lunch break. There's something about it that somehow invited us non-sweaty filthy casuals to participate.

Overwatch 1 is one of my most played games of all time. Probably just behind Final Fantasy XI.
I played one hour of Overwatch 2 and never went back to it.
I miss Overwatch.

I was a Zenyatta main, so seeing another Zen be the dominant MVP for the entire first season of the OWL was so hype.

The God

It was just so much fun. I loved the idea of localized teams. Even went to an Uprising meet and greet with my partner back in 2018.

And perhaps it wasn't sustainable, especially because of the impact COVID had on it. But Activision/Blizzard also completely mismanaged it, as they did with the entire IP as a whole.

Kinda hate this game because it's all my friends ever wanted to play for like 5 years.

I did try my hardest to enjoy it, but fuck I never had any fun no matter what character I tried. God forbid I tried to say anything in voice chat without some sweaty ass dudes munching on cheetos or some shit being weird too.

More than once, this game has been there for me. I didn't need it to be the best game, I didn't need to be the best at it, but I have enjoyed it very much. Here's to another eight years.

I played for a little while, early on. Fell off as I instead moved toward playing more ArmA 3 and, eventually, PUBG. Really did enjoy playing as Cowboy Whatever-The-Fuck-His-Name-Was for that first year or two tho
