I think Mythic Quest is sorta related to ubisoft ironically? So they probably won't touch this issue in season 3

This shit reminds me of Guilty Gear Strive lobbies. Garbage pushed by higher ups, and too far gone implemented into the game to get rid of it.

Good luck !

Is it just me or why does "Ubisoft's Strategic Innovations Lab" sound like deliberate mumbo jumbo to confuse the public, and where they hire IRL casino managers to shadily implement shit like "surprise mechanics"?

I mean, a big video game company like Ubisoft having a division responsible for researching and guiding decisions about new tech isn't that strange. It's actually expected and a good thing.

The big problem here is that this division decided to go all in with a technology that will basically just serve as a cash cow for Ubisoft, that makes no goddamn sense on a user perceptive, and that people generally really hate.

Fucking lol. When your own employees are tired of your shit and know it's bad. Can't clean up your harassment charges and you think this is a good idea still? No one wants these and I hope the blowback keeps going.

"What benefits the players is at the core of our thinking"

But

"Oh, huh, as you shared it publicly, we won't comment anymore"...surely because it's toooo beneficial for the gamers....right....RIGHT?

As Miyamoto once said "A delayed game is eventually good, an NFT game is forever bad. Please do not do that."

Ubisoft produces that show, so just like when one of the actors said that failed Ubisoft battle royale was a gaming mega-franchise, you can expect the Mythic Quest team to implement NFTs in the game and everyone gets super-rich and they are lauded by the public and its a beautiful utopia where no one explains what NFTs do in the game but it just works

Plus the VP of their "Strategic Innovation Lab" is.. just a crypto bro.

His Linkedin history shows no real actual game or tech-related training. He was a philosophy teacher who seems to have really gotten into crypto on his own time.

He's clearly not interested in actual technical research or innovation, he's just balls-deep in crypto culture. He has no ideas on how adding NFTs to games will work, apart from his ideal end result being "Games have NFTs now."

LMAO!!! These comments are gold! I think this the one time all metrics of the gamer-sphere are in a agreement with a resounding no but Ubisoft and the likes are like "I hear you but we're going to do it anyway!"

Like sit the fuck down and as one of your employees said "Get back to making blockbuster games"

like they get big and forget the core of what made them big to begin with.

Is it greed?

Do you remember how we celebrated when Ubisoft escaped a hostile takeover? If only we knew what the outcome would have been…

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20 but maybe Vivendi wasn't that bad
Narrator : they were.
It's gonna sound unbelievable but Vivendi is so fucking bad that this would have been the worst outcome. Bolloré, the guy who wanted to buy out Ubi, has been consolidating a media empire he's been using to push a far right agenda 24/7 while propping up a far right presidential candidate. Meanwhile, he's trying to acquire a publisher that accounts for like 80% of textbooks used in schools (among other things). So yeah, Guillemot is a piece of shit who shouldn't be in his current position, and the company deserves to get rid of a lot of its suits, but being bought out would have probably been worse.

On topic, I love seeing these employees fighting back against the absolute shit that are NFTs. More power to them.

could he even do that? ubisoft is a french company, i assume it would be an international shit show if microsoft acquired them lol
Not really.
If French politician let Alstom get bought by General Electric and literal Nuclear Energy pioneer Areva die out, they won't give a shit about Ubisoft being bought out.
Like literally in 2 days it would be done and outside of the workers there, no one would give a shit.

Glad to see the employees fighting back. Now hopefully this company rife with abuse actually takes some responsibility. Reminder that Yves Guillermot protected sexual abusers and is still CEO there.

I can't find it at the moment, but there was a Twitter thread from Chet Faliszek (former Valve, now Stray Bombay) basically talking about every single thing publishers wanted to use NFTs in games for, and how there was something that does all those things without the major issues with NFTs: a MySQL Database. It was a great read.

So, literally everyone, including most of their own employees (besides a small bunch of their higher ups), thinks this NFT nonsense should be dismissed but they're really adamant about it.

Welp, surely a good tactic! Let's see if it pays off.
What a fucking shit game studio.

It's capitalism at work. Growth is the only target. Services as financial products. Commodification to sell as much as possible with as little investment as possible.

It is not capitalism. You are not growing. You are not even delivering the product people want. This Ubisoft's fixation of NFTs is simple: someone at Ubisoft is into the NFT/Crypto cult.

Capitalism is what Disney or Microsoft is doing: leveraging their capital/position to produce more goods to sell. Star Wars is making money? Lets make more movies and 10 shows on Star Wars.

Games-as-a-job is a ludicrous concept that only works when crypto is at all-time-high allowing players in Philipines to play garabge F2P to make the equivalent of minimum wage. And this isn't even a new thing, we had this without NFTs or Crypto in MMOs for decades now in the form of gold-farmers.

My biggest worry over all this NTF stuff is that at some point Ubi will probably just sneak them in and hope nobody figures it out till it's too late.

I'm sure that's why they're trying so hard to placate their employees. I don't think they have any intention of stopping now that they're on this path.

Ironically I just had an ad at the bottom of ResetEra telling me to buy crypto with a company called Cabital or something (ad just disappeared).

Ubisoft will 100% go ahead with this whether employees like it or not. Some may leave and they'll replace them with others more open to the idea or less opposed to change in the company 'cause they're new.

Making people wish EA had bought Ubisoft back in the old days.

You know what? I think thatd be possibly one of the few buyouts whose potential positive impact on the industry would be agreed upon by anyone. Somebody needs to get the management out of the way of Ubisoft.
Indeed, Microsoft could have them help on their metaverse and NFT projects.

Ugh, stupid Ubisoft employees. Don't they know the Guillemot family's money isn't going to launder itself?!

I firmly believe a lot of their employees who write their full name on that message board really do not give a f*ck if it will cost them their job in the long run. You can actually spot the difference in employees who went into gaming development because they want to craft something beautiful, or the person who went into gaming to earn a lot of cash.

A lot of these employees are already either quitting or looking for an escape. A friend is doing that move right now, he couldn't stand Ubi's culture anymore (even in a senior role).

"You know what else makes a lot of money? Making fun spectacular groundbreaking blockbusters. Why don't we focus on that instead?"

Just wow!!!
this causes me so many different reactions!!!
Incredible how I just hate this new Ubisoft and see how some of his own developers feel the same.
It's just feel like the majority of the developers just love and want things like us, with big AAA releases doing innovative things or creating massive blockbusters but it feels that this huge 3 party publishers now are controlled just for business man and people that honestly don't like videogames.
It's just a matter to pursuit those GaaS, NFTs, or any other easy way to gain easy money.

Its been years since i pay full price in a Ubisoft game and it seems that will continue like this.
I hate the new trends in the industry nowadays.
