What a mess of a movie. The editing is horrendous. This was critically acclaimed??? There were so many odd cuts from one scene to the next that just didn't make any sense, even if you're "new"as a Director.

This. Marvin Scorsessi has always sucked
I can understand people saying Casino and Goodfellas are overrated, but Taxi Driver is one of the best movies ever made IMO. A perfect film in almost every way.
How about Raging Bull?taxi driver is a master piece, goodfellas is amazing, casino feels a lil sloppy but it gives it some charm,
ive never seen mean streets the comedian or w.e it's called
I do not agree. Scorsese has and always will be awesome. He's still putting out great movies (Silence is one of his best) while his contemporaries are not.
This post was mainly written to shill for Silence, which is fucking awesome.
I don't actually believe that I was further mangling the name for fun. Scorsese is very probably the greatest American filmmaker of the post-studio system hollywood and it's not even a contest. In addition to making multiple masterpieces over 50 years (mean streets among them) he's tirelessly advocated for film preservation and the canonization of movies from traditionally ignored national cinemas worldwide. He's a king.I can understand people saying Casino and Goodfellas are overrated, but Taxi Driver is one of the best movies ever made IMO. A perfect film in almost every way.
Agreedi love Scorcese's gangstery movies and Taxi Driver and Wolf, but I really, really hated Mean Streets when i finally saw it a few years back. De Niro's performance was awful compared to other stuff he's done. It was Scorcese's first film so I'll cut him some slack. He got much better.
Neophytes often struggle with narrative forms which fall outside the conventions they've been conditioned to accept. What's with the hot takes and bad opinions on film lately? I mean horror is my favorite genre and I love all the marvel flicks for bringing comics to life but this board cannot seem to realize that as fun as that all may be it's not to the level of cinema that good Scorsese is.

This is basically how I feel about Scorsese. Some (or even most) of his post-80's work is definitely overrated but stuff like Taxi Driver or Raging Bull are undeniably exceptional filmmaking. From his contemporaries, I much prefer Altman or Lumet but they don't really have the filmbro appeal of Scorsese so you rarely see them discussed on the internet.I can understand people saying Casino and Goodfellas are overrated, but Taxi Driver is one of the best movies ever made IMO. Neither of those two are overrated. Goodfellas is especially a work of art.
I don't think they are overrated either, especially Goodfellas. Some people seem to place mob movies in a special tier because they are a fan of the excessive crime and violence.
I do however think that The Departed is highly overrated and one of his worst movies.
Taxi Driver is his best movie IMO and one of the best films ever created. A true masterpiece.
I can't understand the first part. But I wholeheartedly agree with the second part, it's my favorite too.I can understand people saying Casino and Goodfellas are overrated, but Taxi Driver is one of the best movies ever made IMO. A perfect film in almost every way.
One of my favorite uses of music in film, hell of a scene. If a young Robert De Niro strutting into a bar in slow motion while jumpin jack flash plays in the background doesn't make you feel anything, you're not ready to feel things.
