I somehow completely missed this game when it came out, I believe due to all the reviews mentioning the bugs and wait for a patch and by the time it was patched I forgot again for years.

I stumbled across xbox store sale <7 bucks> for the whole game, bought it and just WOW. The immersion of being a literal nobody in medieval times and the dedication the team put into simulation, so juicy. It had me wondering about other posters here, turned off by reviews, turned of certain games so much they completely forgot they exist.

Then one day a SALE less than ten bucks hoo boy and they discover a game they never knew they wanted! Would love to here y'all gems or "how did I miss this" stories!

This will eventually come up, so taking it out of the way:

I missed it on purpose because the lead developer is a gamergater conservative asshole.
But, glad to know you enjoyed it!

A lot of people on here dislike the devs:

And how is it exactly a bad thing to bring up as a reminder how one of the developers are legit pro GamerGate? Or the fact they are owned by THQ Nordic?

My E3 Meeting With A Pro-GamerGate Developer

“I actually tried to fight in armor myself,” the game developer Daniel Vávra said. We were in the middle of a demonstration of his game in progress, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which is nothing less than an attempt to make a no-magic, realistic answer to the epic role-playing game Skyrim—set in a...

Kingdom Come Owes Its Popularity To 'Realism' And Conservative Politics

Kingdom Come: Deliverance has sold more than one million copies in less than a month. Its all-time concurrent player peak is higher than The Witcher 3's. So why is a janky role-playing game set in the Holy Roman Empire so popular? Because, on the surface, it rejects tired fantasy RPG tropes, but...

It's a great game that has a crappy person attached to it. Pity for the rest of the team.

(Or at least the non crappy ones)

It truly is amazing. Even side activities such as alchemy feels fully fleshed out and extremely immersive.

Still hoping for a next gen patch to replay it on hardcore.

I've owned this on PC for a while now and put a few hours into it a long time ago and the game never really clicked with me. Been thinking about trying it again but been busy with other games.

Even disregarding the controversial aspects of the developer...I still tried to like it... But the pacing is such a painful slog I just couldn't bring myself to continue. Gave up after several hours.

Yeah, it's a fantastic game. I loved the alchemy system, probably my favorite side activity of any open world game aside from Gwent.

I played it at launch on XBox One. As with many RPG games I seem to play like a crack whore get somewhat far then burnout sets in and I never finish. I remembering enjoying the game and thats about it. My memory seems to be no good remembering many games these days, like the actual content and context of them.

I remember spending an entire in-game day early on traipsing through a forest outside town gathering herbs with the hopes of earning enough coin to buy an alchemy book and start making some real cash. Near the end of the day I slipped and fell down a hill and died. Restarted at the start of the day. Went and gathered a ton of herbs yet again.

Bought the alchemy book.

My character could not read. The inside was gibberish.

Exquisite.

I wish it got a next gen patch with:

60FPS
Fading HUD
Stick deadzone slider
Higher graphics settings (draw distance and high res foliage at the least).

Then I'd hop back on.

This is the lead designer/creative director/owner of the studio:

So keep that image in your head while playing so you know who created the story, characters and world you are experiencing. Also, imagine the $7 you paid for the game sitting on the table next to his gun.

I got it for free in the epic store, but I struggle to kill the author so probably won't play it!

Clarifying just in case mean "kill the author" metaphorically as in the "death of the author".

I remember him being in Nazi FB groups also? Or following a lot of Nazis.

It is difficult to say "just one dev" with him basically being the boss of the entire studio.

They also said all sorts of things to justify why the game contained very few (or no?) black characters.

I believe if you PS Extra, it is also one of the free games.

I got stuck picking a lock when I first got it on disc, so I kind of got distracted by other games and didn't return to it. But I was waiting for a Next Gen patch that whole time since the PC version can look FUCKING AMAZING!

I didn't know any of that and now I'm horrified. I just read one review on pcgamer after seeing the sale. I apologize for using it as an example, I certainly had zero idea. Ignore my horrible example and condemn the asshole rightfully so for all the hate and bs he spews. I appreciate y'all letting me know though!

This is my first topic I've ever posted so I most def. screwed this up through pure ignorance

I was more looking for other resetera members experiences with finding games they thought they would hate or had no idea existed then found a sale and discovered something they actually enjoyed. I apologize if I offended anyone!

Don't feel guilty about it. You didn't know and even if you did one more person playing the game doesn't matter.

It's just impossible to keep up who is a bad person so don't blame yourself or beat yourself up. Only a couple outlets media outlets covered it when it was discovered.

But hey, at least now you know to avoid their games going forward

I was a kickstarter backer and really enjoyed it when it came out but I ran into a bug in the main story and it took awhile to fix and when I tried to come back it was too hard to get back into so I never played it again.

good game but the swordplay was so bad i just couldn't any longer. i'll give it another shot someday i guess

got like a 1/4th through the game, so many things i liked about it - gave me the same feeling the earlier elder scrolls games did. but like i said the mechanics were too jank and not the "charming" kind. also a lot of bugs but i bought and played it day 1 so guess that's not an issue at this point

It's ok. You didn't know, neither did I. There are many assholes out there, no way of knowing who all these people are and what are they involved with. It's a shame cause the game does look interesting.

I was actually interested in the game because I think it's part of the PS Plus catalog, but seeing this stuff, that I only got to know because of your thread, made me want to spend time with another game instead. So at least this thread serves as a warning about who the dev is.

It's fucking amazing, if it were a little less janky with better movement and reduced loading screens it probably would have taken off like Oblivion

The quests and atmosphere are so good that all the clunkiness can get in the way; I think I've put 60 or so hours into it but haven't quite finished the main quest

Also, the story, characters and world of Mafia and Mafia 2, that I played and loved way before I had any chance of learning about any of this.

in a lot of games, you start out as the chosen one
but in this, you're an absolute nobody

there was this quest where you had to escort a noble to somewhere
and there were 2 horses
I was thinking clearly one of them is for me
but nope
you're a peasant so no horses you walk
so I had to run the whole way while this douchebag noble was riding in his horse
I thought that aspect was cool
I didn't play it much further as my interest dropped when the GG stuff came out

never could get into it, from controls to combat its jank-fest, on consoles being stuck at 30fps last gen visuals not doing any favors either
