Konami confirms recent Silent Hills rumors are fake

The one about Sony buying Metal Gear from Konami and giving it to Kojima was some truly early 2000s-style rumor. The only thing missing was the blurry photo of a printed word document with "confidential" in it.

It's different but the US branch's PR department of a Japanese publisher not having the latest info or denying stuff isn't something that puts the final nail in the coffin of this type of project being true.
Not seeing any reason to trust the word of a verified insider any less than official company PR. Both categories have been confirmed to be both truthful and full of crap numerous times.
I don't really care personally if Sony is working on a new horror IP or Silent Hill. There is nothing Toyama, Yamaoka and Ito can't do without the brand that they can do with it apart from maybe boost the hype for the game. What does the brand add? "Iconic" weapons? Enemies that only made sense within the context of the originals? Mandatory stupid endings? Silent Hill does not need to continue in my book, big budget horror regardless of brand needs to. I don't mean to downplay the games, I love them. I just think that the brand is empty in itself.

I'm glad that my policy here has always been "believe it when I see it." Don't trust Konami, obviously, but I also don't trust insider fan-fics about 20 secret Silent Hill games in development by all your favorite developers! That being said, somebody is telling a fib, and there *is* smoke from those SH rumors, so I'm placing bets on Konami being full of shit, even if I think that these recent rumors are pie-in-the-sky.
Gotta be honest I'm kind of glad. Sucks for Silent Hill fans I guess but Castlevania Souls sounds like a nightmare to me, and honestly I'd rather Castlevania be as multi platform as possible.

I'm not keen of first parties acquiring classic third party properties, so I'm happy enough with this. But I really want someone to do something with this IP.
Are they lying when they're not being specific about which runours are untrue? All theyve said is "Silent Hill isn't dead but not in the way it's reported"
So not making another game and just sitting on the IP indefinitely is what's best?

Konami is not selling anything to sony and they havent said a new silent hil wouldnt be possible
They're still using the IP, even if it's not for things that the people that want another Silent Hill video game don't want. No one here wants Silent Hill to be stuck in Pachinko parlors and casinos, but Konami is still using the IP to make money through them.
I just wish we'd get more SH games as a whole. Sitting on the IP without using it doesn't do Konami any good, and while the later games varied in quality, they each had their good points. I really liked Downpour despite its flaws.

Konami's still using the IP and still making money off of it. "Just make another game" may sound simple, but if Konami is profiting off of the IP with very little risk, why SELL IT and lose that money stream permanently?
I'm absolutely confident about this because I got a new confirmation recently about the Silent Hill reboot to be announced this year and my source has always been reliable in the past.
You do know that regional branches communicate with the headquarters and get approval for statements of the sort, right?

Just because someone may be in the position to know doesn't mean they actually know.
The rumours by a historically trash and unverified source about the MGS and Castlevania IPs being sold were fanfic territory, but the information from several trusted insiders here on Era, at least one of which has been verified by a mod as legit, certainly isn't.

Konami is not denying a silent hill project is on the works. Just not what the rumour is speculating. They gain absolutely nothing but vitriol from a group of gamers by coming out and killing this rumour, so pardon me if i'm more inclined to believe them than your mysterious infalible source.
Don't believe me if you don't want too. I don't really care. I just wanted to share what I knew and what I'm certain of. In a few months, everyone will see that I was right.
