First and for all: Resident Evil (hence the username). Other than that various action games (DMC, Bayonetta etc.), action-adventure (currently replaying Tomb Raider 2 :D), point & click adventure games and RPGs (although I'm still a noob in this genre). Too many to name them all.
Currently in the middle of playing:
* Fallout New Vegas (100 hours in; I'm going to finish the game one day...)
* Tomb Raider 2
* Dragon's Dogma
* The Witcher (I stopped at the 2nd act; I have to go back to that game)
* Apollo Justice
* Puzzle Fighter
and probably some other games.
What are your hobbies (other than gaming)?
I read (or at least try to) a lot of books, mainly sci-fi, fantasy and criminals, but I'm not going to say no to a good book of any genre.
Other than that, there's programming, crossfit (more trainings than the whole culture around it).
I probably won't post much in this thread (like in all previous threads), because most of the talks here take place when it's a night where I live, so whenever I visit it there are pages of new posts to read. But it's still nice to see you people here. :)
The last 2 episodes have kinda brought my moral down. I have been really bummed about it. I know its a TV show but I was quite invested in the characters and they way they ended it felt quite cruel. I watched is 2 days ago and am still thinking about it. Maybe me being depressed has got to do something with it. I just wanted to gather all my thoughts and felt I could do here. Thanks.
I haven't watched Please Like Me beyond the first episode, in part because I thought it would become stressful. But hopefully this video of Josh Thomas on a game show with his grandmother could help cheer you up a bit. I love this video. https://youtu.be/eFdFm9rWsso?t=30
What is it like living in a country like Oman, as a person that like's the same sex?

Thanks for the Video. I would watch it when I am home. The show was actually a lot of fun and I enjoyed it a lot. It was just the last 2 episodes that kinda made me sad.
Everyone is hidden. People here use apps like Grindr and Scruff. I have seen some cross dressers out and about and people usually leave them alone here. I also have seen a lot of Fems out and about with full sass and people rarely say anything. People in Oman are generally nice. I haven't dated much people here though as I am in a monogamous long distance relationship.
Hi everyone! Very glad to be here. Nice to meet you all :)

It's still a bit steep in terms of pricing (315 Euros is the cheapest offer I could find with a search earlier) so I am waiting for a sale. Any games on it that you can play with others online besides Splatoon 2?
Mario Kart 8 is a must-play! Other than that, I hear that Stardew Valley (an harvest Moon clone) is gonna have a multiplayer mode soon. And Smash Bros is bound to come out someday.
Despite being the least handy person in the world I think I've finally managed to put up some new shelves in my room. Fingers crossed they don't collapse instantly.

I am currently watching The East Siders. Lo and behold it starts with a cheating boyfriend. I will probably finish it as it is only 10 minute episodes.
Todd Haynes films are great, Carol and Far From Heaven in particular. Velvet Goldmine has queer themes but I am not that big of a fan of that film. I've only seen Poison once, his early radical queer film, but I didn't get all the references he was making. Would like to revisit that one at some point. Safe and Superstar aren't queer films but they are fantastic. Safe is one of my all time favourite films. Superstar you can only watch on youtube because he didn't get the rights to the Carpenters music.
Rainer Werner Fassbinder is also another great filmmaker who did queer films, although he has a very cynical disposition to life. Don't watch if you are expecting something lighthearted. Fox and his Friends and The Bitter Tears of Petra Van Kant are probably his best gay films. In a Year of 13 Moons is interesting but kind of obtuse. I never saw his last film Querelle. But if you are not interested in sad endings, then yeah, maybe keep away haha.
There is also Moonlight, which is great, but you are probably already aware of that one.
May I ask why you don't to see things with sad endings? I think tragedy is a great tool to explore themes and pathos.

If you're open to (description of the general tone of the films' endings, so could theoretically be considered a mild spoiler by some)
melancholic-not-super-tragic
endings, I'd recommend: Loev (interesting characters and character dynamics, some moments that may be a bit heavy and emotionally confusing) In The Greyscale (the premise is a bit eyeroll-inducing but once you get over that it's a great film) Those People (I think this one goes in this category? I can't actually remember how Those People ended LOL).
Other than that: 4th Man Out (basically the gay-straight-alliance version of a buddy comedy - quite enjoyable) Handsome Devil (a bit cheesy and stereotypical at times - especially towards the end - but still worth a watch) Esteros (a bit slow at times, maybe even boring to some people, but not bad) Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List (this is more of a friendship movie than a typical "gay film") Speech & Debate (quirky, a bit wacky and absurd but quite funny) Out in the Dark (it's been ages since I watched this but I remember it being quite good)
And for TV shows: Sense8 (you should try not to think too much about whether certain aspects of the plot make sense and focus on what makes this show great: its diverse set of characters and locations) Faking It (this one is centered around a lesbian "couple" of sorts. can be a bit cheesy and teenage-y at times but it's got lots of great LGBTQ characters in it and is quite fun to watch if you don't always take it seriously) Transparent (I've only watched one season so far but that's only because I haven't gotten around to watching more, not because I didn't like the first season; centered around a MtF trans person coming out late in life) Orphan Black (not sure if this is technically "LGBTQ media" but it's got some prominent gay characters in it and is the kind of series that I think appeals to your average LGBTQ audience) London Spy (I personally thought that show kind of fell apart towards the end story-wise but it's a show with a gay protagonist that's not specifically about him being gay which is sth you don't find all that often and it does do a lot of things right, too) Will & Grace (it shows that this one is a product of the late 90s and early 2000s as there's very little in the way male-male romantic or sexual interaction being shown on-screen but it is a hilarious show with gay main characters)
If you're also open to books, I can recommend some of Josh Lanyon's stuff (they're not literary masterpieces but they're enjoyable crime mystery novels centered around gay protagonists with some gay romance on the side): The Adrien English Series
The All's Fair Series
The Curse of the Blue Scarab
Even the new movie coming out this year that's having Oscar buzz (Call Me By Your Name) has a sad ending apparently. Seriously need to break away from that trope.
btw, I'm updating that massive list of queer visual media of mine. Will be posting it soon-ish, if anyone knows of anything that either wasn't on it the last time or of less known films released since 2015 (i.e. not Carol, Moonlight, etc.) send me a PM.

Does it? The reviews & impressions (which are not that many to be clear) I've read/head have described it as being very comforting. But I haven't read the book or seen it.

The impressions that I've read from people who saw a screening of it said it was heartbreaking. But who knows, maybe people interpreted the ending differently? I just want a gay storyline to have a happy ending is all. No baggage or tradgey.
Filmmaker Gwen Haworth turns her camera on her family for this down-to-earth documentary that follows her transition from male to female over the course of several years.
Part of the documentary series Georgian Underworld that examined "hidden" aspects of life in 18th century Britain. Queen Anna Chancellor narrates this episode that focuses on queer life which provides some fascinating historical insights.
After 42 years, lesbian couple Edie and Thea are finally getting married. The film chronicles their lives from the early '60s to the present day and the political and personal battles they've endured.
Three years before the riot at Stonewall, a group of transgender women and drag queens fought police harassment at Compton's Cafeteria in San Francisco. This film explores that event, the people who partook in it and life in San Fransisco around that time.
Taking a look at the events that led up to, the fight against and the aftermath of California's Proposition 8 which defined marriage as between a man and a woman only.

Basically "The L Word" but set in Scotland, with different charachters and a different tone. So it's not really like "The L Word". But people keep insiting that it is. But it's not. Except it kind of is. But not really.
Supposedly it is a good show. But I'm not sure if it is "good for being on Logo"-good or "actually a good show"-good. Anyway, the show itself centres on gay life in west Hollywood.
An adaptation of the novel of the same name. This three-part series is set in the 1980's and is about Nick Guest who is to begin postgraduate studies in London, moves into the luxurious home belonging to the family of his best friend and casts himself into the life of plentiful riches and love affairs.

The recent HBO adaptation of the play of the same name by Larry Kramer. Adapted by Kramer and Ryan Murphy it is about the AIDS epidemic of the 80's centring around activists in New York.
Being one of the most exciting contemporary directors Xavier Dolan has explored multiple facets of the queer identity without making his films solely about being queer. In my mind his greatest work so far has been Laurance Anyways and if you're just going to watch one film on this list, make it this one.
It doesn't hurt that Xavier Dolan also happens to be very pretty.
A film about a gay writer that explores what it means to be gay in China where even if it is technically legal to be gay the police still persecute homosexuals.
Based on the play of the same name about the persecution of homosexuals by the Nazis and life in the concentration camps. Also worth noting that this is probably the only film in which you will see both Mick Jagger and Jamie Lannister.
One of the pioneers of gay cinema, and the man who brought Tilda Swinton into the limelight, the work of Derek Jarman is a showcase of eccentricity and creativity. I single out Caravaggio not for being his best film but it is probably one of his more accessible works, Nigel Terry and Sean Bean stars in the biopic (of sorts) about the Baroque painter.
Kenneth Anger is an experimental film-maker who is one of the first (if not the first) American directors to bring gay culture to the cinema. Why do I single out Scorpio Rising? Because yet again this is probably one of the more accessible works, it's about an army of gay Nazi bikers... Yes, most of Anger's work can only be described by the phrase "it is one of the most insane things I've ever seen" .
I'm going to let the description from the BFI speak for itself:
Pink Narcissus is a breathtaking and outrageous erotic poem focussing on the daydreams of a beautiful boy prostitute who, from the seclusion of his ultra-kitsch apartment, conceives a series of interlinked narcissistic fantasies populated by matadors, dancing boys, slaves and leather-clad bikers. ... With its highly charged hallucinogenic quality, its atmosphere of lush decadence, and its explicit erotic power, Pink Narcissus is a landmark of gay cinema.
David Dencik is one of the greatest working Swedish actors and he co-stars in this film about two Danish ex-servicemen who when they meet in a neo-nazi group start a relationship.
One of the early works of queer cinema, directed by William Friedkin and based on the play of the same name about. The film focuses on its characters and how they interact during a birthday party.
Based on the autobiography of the same name and starring John Hurt, this television film is about Quentin Crisp, one of the most important gay icons in Britain.
Yes it is a Lifetime film but don't stop reading, this one is actually decent. A biopic about Mary Griffith, and the why and how she became a gay rights activist.
An Israeli film about love between two soldiers stationed in an outpost on the Lebanese border. A not quite as good sequel also exists which you may want to check out if you loved this film.
The film is a dramatisation of the life of Brandon Teena, a trans man who attempts to find himself and love in Nebraska. A bit bleak but very well made.
A gorgeous piece of cinema, based on the book of the same name about an English professor struggling to cope with ordinary life in 1960's Los Angeles after the sudden death of his boyfriend. Also Nicholas Hoult is ridiculously good looking.
From the legendary director of "Room with a View" James Ivory and based on the novel of the same title it is a tale of same-sex love in early 20th century England, featuring a young Hugh Grant and great cinematography. Recently received a 4K restoration.

A French romantic coming-of-age drama about discovering desire, and asserting oneself as a woman and as an adult. Featuring some magnificent performances from the leads.
I have no idea how Gregg Araki made this film, most of his work is funny, immaterial films that play with gender norms and sexuality. This however is a fantastic piece of drama with a great central performance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Queerness is a central theme in a lot of the films by the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, the film I have singled out centres around two childhood friends and the sexual abuse that occurred during their religious schooling under the Franco regime.
This is worth seeing just because of the stunning performance that Zoé Héran gives as a 10 year old transgender boy. Like seriously, the film is great and all but that performance is hauntingly good.
Based on the actual events, this British feel-good takes place under the miners' strike and is about the unlikely alliance between a small mining village in Wales and a group of lesbian and gay activists.
Okay, so I'm slighty embarrassed for not having included this one the first time around. A modern classic in its native Sweden this film follows two disparate teenage girls finding love in a small town
A film about a mother and her son's lover trying come to terms with grief, and understanding the man they both loved. Starring the infallible Ben Whishaw.
Wikipedia's plot section covers it perfectly; Shirin is struggling to be an ideal Persian daughter, a politically correct bisexual, and a hip young Brooklynite but fails miserably in her attempt at all identities.
I adore this film, okay, maybe even slightly more than adore. Voted best LGBT film by the BFI in March of 2016, Todd Haynes' poignant yet hopeful film about a two women falling in love in 1950s USA is an utterly incredible piece of cinema. Based on the book "The Price of Salt" by Patricia Highsmith.
A thriller which not only helped shape the public opinion in the UK for the passing of the 1967 sexual offences act which decriminalised homosexuality, it's also supposedly the first English language film to use the word "homosexual". Tom Hooper's take on the life of the Danish transgender pioneer Lili Elbe which earned Alicia Vikander an Oscar for her performance as the partner of Lili, Gerda Wegener.
A three time Oscar winning (including Best Picture) chronicle of the childhood, adolescence and adulthood of a gay African-American growing up in Miami, Barry Jenkins created a stunner of a film.
A romantic coming of age film set in 1980s Italy where a young man falls in love with the visiting assistant to his father. Directed by Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay by James Ivory.
Ditto on The Handmaiden for being a great gay movie, my fave !! It's an amazing thriller and I love the characters. Not tragic either. But make sure you have a while bc its almost 3 hours long.
EDIT: didn't see the huge list by berzeli before i posted. wow!! i'm excited to look into those
Thanks for the compilation, berzeli ! Very useful.
I love queer films, have seen some of those and will check out some others. It's such a small segment still, we need more, and more exposure for them, there's practically nothing on netflix for example.

I started watching the Australian TV Show "Please like me". For those that have not watched it here is a brief synopsis.
The show is about a guy name Josh in late 20's who falls in love with another guy Arnold who suffers from Anxiety attacks. Also the protagonists mother had attempted suicide in the pilot and Josh moves in with her. In the final season the couple break up over a threesome and Josh's mother commits suicide.Josh's friend tries to call Arnold to tell about suicide but Arnold is shown having sex with the threesome guy. The show is finished.
