Ok, I know Line of Duty may not have been the most realistic programme on telly, but still that ending...

Imagine AC-12 investigating Gene Hunt.

Didn't realise there was a thread for this.

This series has been as good as the rest but a bit disappointing that we've had very little interrogation scenes, no substantial one yet either.

John was always going to die but he was a little naive to trust Lisa. Interesting to see where the next two episodes go from here.

Those who have seen any Twitter discussion might have seen that Laptop Man and Ted both misspelled definitely with an a. Still don't think he's H but have no clue what he's actually hiding, maybe something about the Belfast connection between him and John.

Anyone who has watched the previous series would have seen that coming tonight, especially with all the foreshadowing.

and I'm going to go with Gill, the police counsel being H and it standing for Her.

Just read a Twitter theory that makes wayyyy too much sense and now I'm kicking myself for not noticing it.

Probably means it's completely wrong, mind you!

That's my guess too, not the name though.

I did love the well timed mention of gobshite in this episode.

Another cracking episode!
Huge twist at the end again.

Who is Lisa? She's a mysterious one.

Lisa is another undercover officer "in too deep", except she's working for Hastings directly - and he's been indirectly communicating with her via that text link. This actually seems pretty plausible: some eagle-eyed viewers noticed that "definitely" was misspelled the same way both earlier on and when Hastings was using the hijacked text link.

The bit that was incredibly far-fetched is that Lisa is actually Tony Gates' kid (from Season 1) and is doing this to get revenge on the OGC. This doesn't make sense for a number of reasons, one being that she'd probably be a fair bit younger.

Again, fully expecting all of this to be wrong though.

I love this show.

My little theory is that Lisa McQueen is an AC9 operative who's been deep undercover and 'working' with Kate since season 3.

If you remember, Kate approached AC9 because she had concerns about corruption in AC12 (and because their Superintendent was female and hence not a mason) and wanted to launch an undercover operation to root out the culprits.

It struck me last night, what if Kate's operation never actually ended with Dot and she's been playing the long-game to get H and ring-leaders ever since? McQueen could be a deep cover asset from AC9, working in parallel to bring down the clandestine network of corrupt police officers.

When Kate was pissed off with Steve for holding out on her about his meetings with Corbett, I just had this flash forward of his indignant little face if the tables were turned in the final episode.

That said, the her theory is entirely plausible too.

Another fantastic episode, didn't expect that ending even though I knew it could not end the way it was looking like it would (he would blow his cover).

It's hard to wait another week.

I mean, there are 2 more series of this planned, so I'm not convinced we will see everything tied up as neatly as some of you are presuming, when it comes to 'H'

I thought there was only one more planned?

My guess is that Hastings will be framed at the end of this series and the final series will exonerate him

Another great episode. Don't feel great about Hastings being framed while Steve and Kate's powers are limited as they're the only two we can trust. Gill is obviously super dodgy and there's more to learn about both Corbett's N. Irish past and McQueen. The finale is going to be extremely interesting.

I'm also waiting to see exactly what's going on with Ted because I 'definately' don't think he's H but some of the things he's done this series have been bizarre and stupid, betraying his obvious intelligence and principles. I hope there's a decent explanation.

Anna Maxwell Martin is now the MVP of interrogation scenes. The way she delivered her, "Suspicious. Mmm." line *chef kiss*

I also recommend everyone checks out the reviews on Den of Geek because they're always top notch: https://www.denofgeek.com/uk/tv/lin...series-5-episode-5-review-the-gaffer-in-a-fix

My favourite quote:
Ted's love life wasn't the only one causing problems this week. Kate's work is still impinging on domestic bliss, while Steve's undercover officer has been suspended from duty, the poor wee fella.

This show is amazing. I'm glad I caught up last year. I think the likely scenario is Hastings going down for the crime and the next season is clearing his name. He messed up way too often to be allowed to be Superintendent anymore, but I can't imagine it all being cleared up in one episode.

PSA - apparently Sainsbury's started selling the DVD boxset early yesterday, by mistake, and spoilers are out there now so maybe avoid social media until after tonight's screening, if you don't want the ending revealed.

Reminds me of the time Doctor Who Season 7 Blu-rays were delivered before the finale.

What is going on beeb???

So this time this can't be streamed in the US?

I wish we could have a spoiler sensitive thread. I want to know where I can watch, not what happened..

Bit disappointed with the conclusion and this last episode in general. I think the writers just couldn't keep up with the hype the show generated.

It was a good episode but it definitely feels ant-climactic. Hanging over the last bent copper until next series is lame. The whole morse code reveal was really cheap as well.

Really good, those interrogation scenes were tense as fuck. Liked the way it tied everything up whilst finally explaining what H actually is/meant and the way Kate and Steve rode in to the rescue was punch the air material.

One more top dog to go though then.

I loved the episode because the interrogation scenes are the best part of the show and they've been a little lacking this season otherwise. Only thing that was a bit anticlimactic was that Lisa really was just a fairly ordinary OCG member, unless we get more background in the next season. I was expecting more there. Andrea Wise seems like the other bent copper, right?

She didn't take the advice, section 30 whoops.

Fairly predictable in the end though but enjoyable and from previous seasons, it didn't work well even in the opposite way, saw it all coming. Great acting from Hastings actor. Worst attempted kill ever though. Right in thinking Hastings had a son then?

Damn, that was edge of the seat stuff
especially that text message. Imo, they made it obvious that, that pc was dirty, and over the last few eps I had a feeling that Gill was dirty too.

I'm 50/50 about them
dragging out "H" over another series, and the whole morse code malarky.

Pretty sure that
Hastings tipped off the OCG about Corbett, and snagging 50k

According to Radio Times, it'll possibly be Jan 2021 until series 6, so a damn long time until we get more answers.

Damn, gotta figure out how to watch all seasons in US. Loved Bodyguard.

I guess I could find a free weekend and start a free trial and try to binge everything, but I'd prefer to do it a bit slower

Fantastic ending!

I totally called Ryan having a police interview. That's gonna be interesting next series!

One thing I wanted more of was Lisa! Why was she having nervous breakdowns during her time in the OCG? It implied she was undercover but apparently she wasn't?

And finally Hastings is (mostly) exonerated.

I thought Gill played a blinder too, I almost thought she was innocent for a while!

So after all there is no 'H', but it meant 4.
