Congregator of Flesh is down.

I fucking love this game. It is probably my favorite Souls-like/clone so far. It just keeps hitting all my weak points for maximum damage. Art, music, level design, atmosphere, gameplay... all very good.

oh ffs there was a vestige shortly after the
Congregator of Flesh
and I wasted a temp seed to make a vestige there lol. Like, of course there was, but I really didn't want to lose my 10k souls because I had no healing or health after the boss. Oh well, I've been stingy with them anyway, still have 4 left.

This game is actually amazing.
Seriously impressed with the levels and bosses so far.
I bet if it had launched smoothly people would be singing its praises pretty loudly.

I wish they got rid of the temp fires and they added a few more permanent fires instead, I just had to fight 2 bosses and 1000 enemies between these two main fires.

Is there no beautiful bright area in this game? After going through those mountains I finally went out and was greeted by a bright forest. I was like finally some light, walked a few steps into a trap that dropped me into a garbage dark poisonous swamp... Please tell me not all future zones are dark moody damps.

If you find a weapon with B- scaling in any of the core stats, once upgraded all the way to 10, it will have an S scaling for that stat.

I'm super interested in this game but several of the reviews mentioned how hard it was to navigate the world. Saying it was really confusing and they got lost several times. As much as I love souls combat my memory is so bad I get lost in games easier than I should. What's everyone's impressions of the map. Is it as confusing as a few people have said?

That would be a shame if it's the case the whole way through. Some of the best moments in these games come from trapsing through the brownest-greyest place in existence, only to cross a boundary and have something beautiful come into view, like Irithyll after the Catacombs in DS3.

This boss fight...

Three ice dogs, one big legged head, an the actual boss, a frost barbarian. All with the protection eye which, of course, is in the back of the room surrounded by the dogs and the head.

On top of that, you have to fight in umbral because the place is flooded.

Ben allfleck tired meme.

Edit: Done.

Does a burning village count as something bright?

I like the journal system. It provides a few sketched visual environmental clues for you to piece together as you progress forward.

Armor tincts are so damn good for Fashion. You can mix and match any pieces of armor together that you like, and have them look like a coherent outfit with any color set of your choosing.

I've only seen Diablo, some MMOs, and this game use this sort of system, wish more devs aped it.

shit, died to this mini boss in the fen, I clearly opened up a shortcut just before (kicked down a ladder) but I didnt actually go down to see where it leads, and now I have no idea where it is lol. I thought it was this ladder near the start but no, that one is still not lowered meh

yes it's super intricate and confusing at times, it's very reminiscent of Dark Souls 1 in that sense

Confusing isn't the word I'd use. I haven't been confused in regard to where I can/should go. Finding how to get there can be tricky as you need to pay attention to both worlds while exploring though. There are a lot of shortcuts and areas are interconnected, so it's hard to say how you would fare into this world really. I can see how having a bad memory could be an issue for this game however. You're gonna need to remember doors and places you need to return to for instance.

Have you played Dark Souls 1? Did you have issue navigating its world? If you played it and managed fine, then you're gonna be ok in this one too.

Ah yeah.. I got lost in dark souls 1 a ton of times. So I'll probably pass on this one. I'm glad people are having a blast with it though. May watch a playthrough.

I just realized that this game's art direction is basically Blasphemous in 3D.

I am still early on but the visuals are incredibly well inspired.

I love the way the world fits together too.

So outside of performance how are people actually finding the game? Good boss challenge? Exploration and itemization interesting? Combat fun and versatile?

this mini boss with the
rock exterior that you have to force open
is going to be annoying to fight as a regular enemy later on >_>

Magneto where's this 35 STR sword at, LIAR! :(

I have significant complaints about the movement and combat in the game. Everything has way too much forward momentum and they don't do the action game thing where your attack animations won't cause you to go careening off of ledges. I've gone flying off of ledges more often than I care to admit because I vaguely misjudged my distance from a ledge, hit my light attack, and I slid forward. Rolling has a similar issues.

The only thing that feels like it doesn't send me rocketing forward is jumping and even that can result in a roll that's a mile long if you manage to land where you want.

I genuinely don't know what the designers were smoking when they decided to give everything so much momentum, it's just miserable a lot of the time.

The game improved a fair amount once I got out of the first non-tutorial area, though, because it stopped having so much awful platforming. It still has way too many enemies on screen at any given time, especially since the pack will usually include ranged attackers, to the degree where I genuinely sprint past things because I can't be assed.

Exploration is really fun, though, when I get around my issues with the combat. I wouldn't call the itemization any more or less interesting than DS1.

real game starts now picked this up again now that some fixes are out game runs smooth and i got the first boss down after leveling a bit and i even found some stuff i missed and now im in the hub that's a lot of npcs didn't notice the game having dynamic audio because i was wondering why the npc voice was only coming out of one ear my headphones till i moved the camera around

nice you can get all the starter gear i tend to go paladin in my rpgs and souls games and this game seems to really want you in lore to be a crusader of the sorts

What's magic like in this? Mostly offensive spells or are there lots of buffs and support spells? I really enjoyed replaying the Souls games (and Elden Ring) with a battlemage sort of build, with most of my damage coming from weapons but using magic to augment it and buff myself - is that something anyone's been doing or I have I misunderstood how it works in this game?

I fully invested in radiance (which is the holy stat in this game), thinking it would be easy mode, but surprisingly the magic is well balanced in this game. Well at least the holy one, I'm currently leveling the inferno stats to also play with fire and Umbral magic.

Radiance allows me to dps from ranged (which anyone can do with a bow/crossbow btw), buff myself to take less damage, cure ailment, heal myself or ally with an aoe on the ground, enchant my weapon with holy (which I don't use as my weapon is already always infused) and summon cool things I'm not gonna spoil here.

So far the Inferno spells I have are damage oriented, but I remember seeing one to boost your damage too.

Umbral is the dps/debuff magic. Poison, rotten, lower defense, imbue weapon with poison, cast magic missiles/balls.

That's what I am playing, paladin with heal, holy weapon buff and dispel. You can get all these spells very early in the game right after the first boss.

one beacon down then. Fen area was much shorter than the Perch, unless there's more after this.

edit: another remembrance without pure STR weapons :(

Ok, so after 30 hours I'm nearing the end.

- I like the game overall. I like that rolling is viable but also you can block and regain HP with hitting after block, and parry system is also okay.
- I don't care about the story. I feel like they've tried to be like souls games, but the characters lack good enough writing and backstories, the items doesn't have enough story/lore details. I don't feel like I know anything about the boss I'm fighting.
- I think there are too many enemies thrown at you sometimes.
- Some locations are too confusing with where you should go.
- I like how spells work, it's so nice and easy to use them and then switch to your weapon immediately. Fluid and intuitive. Can't go back to FromSofts magic/ranged system now.
- PC performance is quite weak but on 4070 RTX i don't have massive drops.

Overall I like it. 7/10 reviews seem to be right.

The best are so far was the
The Mines
felt like I was playing dark souls, never had to fight more than 3 enemies, was interesting to explore, sadly that didn't last very long

Tell me that this stupid mimic has a different item name and I'm not reading. It has killed me twice in Umbra when I was surviving looking for a flower bed or checkpoint.

What a terrible idea.

I mean, the mimic cant attack you if you dont try to pick up the item. You can soulflay it to kill it instantly.

Look carefully at how the item's flame is moving. If its movements are a bit chaotic, it's a mimic.

I like their take on the mimic personally. It's clever and novel. It really took me by surprise the first time and took me a few others to finally spot them.

so I checked the weapons wiki to see what pure STR weapons there were and if I missed any where I am in the game, turns out I did miss an axe in the Fen, right at the start too, not sure how I missed that. Gonna try it for a bit at +3 see how it goes compared to my BONK, seems the rest of the STR weapons are in later locations.

If the item's flame has a serpentine effect going on, it's a mimic.

i know, my point stands tho, you need to try and pick it up to get attacked :D
