I think the writing for this season has been pretty good but the only drawback for me has been that the budget/story keeping the setting to a few very similar looking sets. The writers have been working hard and making the show interesting in the context what what is going on, but unfortunately, the setting makes some stuff blend in together.
I applaud the showrunners for still remaining so ambitious for what they attempt with the show (which may also explain why they went back to 2 arcs for a season rather than 3 pods since they can reuse sets and costumes for longer) and doing a fullblown Kree arc with the Inhumans has been a long time coming for the show and is appropriate given that we'll never get that side of things since Inhumans was cancelled and Captain Marvel is probably where the MCU finally fleshes out the Kree a lot more but likely won't even deal with the idea of the Inhumans (though, who knows for sure). It's hard to top last season, but if this ended up being the final season, I'm pretty pleased with what they wanted to do with it. Time travel, space, Kree with Inhumans, Gravitonium, an actual world ending event they are trying to figure out, and FitzSimmons marriage.
I'm excited if we get a few more call backs going forward that we didn't expect. One thing that I felt was a bit of a plot thread that I was hoping they'd revisit in the future was the history of Hive and Hydra. That was a something I thought we'd learn a bit more about that weird abandoned planetary society where they found Hive. Maybe I missed something, but it seemed like they were teasing a bit more mystery about what went down in the past that I never got the answers I was looking for.
