Alright MCU Era, I'm currently in the middle of building the LEGO Groot Build and of course, I'm listening to both of Awesome Mixes as I build this LEGO Groot (I am Groot, ofc). This of course got me thinking about which Awesome Mix you guys would prefer. So MCU Era, which Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol do you prefer and why? (And fuck it, what are some of your favorite songs as well)

Gonna go with VOL 1. VOL 2 was good too, but VOL 1 made Hooked on a Feeling synonymous with GOTG for years.

Is it strange I equate "Dear Mr. Fantasy" more with GotG than any track on either of those mixes?

Vol 2 has more songs I personally like (or liked before the movie even came out) but I feel Vol 1 is more "iconic"

I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to "Father and Son" again, though. Hits and hurts like a motherf, especially now.

Vol. 2 accentuated the movie better for me, but I could be biased since Vol. 2 is my favorite MCU movie. Every song in that volume complemented the scenes they're in perfectly.

Vol 1 has the more recognizable songs, but personally I prefer Vol 2.

Both are great but I think 1 just left a bigger impression thanks to the novelty. I can easily recall more songs from 1 than 2.

I kinda lean toward 2. Fox on the Run, Lakeshore Drive, The Chain... so good.

I do wish Rubberband Man was on one of them.

Yeah, this is basically everything I wanted to say, even calling out Father and Son for being such a good song.

Have to go with volume 2.

Mr. Blue Sky, Surrender, Brandy, Father and Son, My Sweet Lord, Come a Little Bit Closer. So many memorable songs and scenes.

Volume 1 is fine, but it's most memorable song was the stupid Oooha Chaka song.

I do wish Rubberband Man was on one of them.

Did Gunn pick that one, or was it the Russo's?

1 for sure, most of the songs in 2 I didnt recognize so the nostalgia didnt hit. Good music doesnt have to rely on nostalgia and the songs are indeed good but the film was structured around the audience recognizing the music so when you dont ... the film suffers

I'm not sure I'd agree, the only songs from vol. 2 I recognized were the Chain and Surrender, but as a whole the song choices in vol. 2 hit me like a truck more than vol 1, which felt less hand-picked to me.

Volume 1, especially cause of Moonage Daydream. Shout outs to Mr Blue Sky in volume 2 though

It is a great, beautiful song! It's just that it always got me in the feels, ever since I was a kid, and now that my dad passed away 3 months ago I don't think I have the strength to listen to it again (alongside other songs that remind me of him).

Vol 2 for me. But it may be more because the movie introduced me to a lot more songs that I hadn't really heard before, or given their fair shakes, so it stands out to me more. Like Father and Son, Southern Nights, or Come a Little Bit Closer. I think the movie integrated them really well in there too. I can't help but think of all those ships warping in during Wham Bam Shang-a-Lang.

That and Hooked on a Feeling rubs me the wrong way.

Oh man... condolences. Biggest fear in my life and I don't know if I'm capable to cope with that kind of loss yet.

thanks, man. Only advice I can give you (and others) is that cherish every moment you still have with your loved ones. Don't take 'em for granted. If you haven't talked to them in a while, give 'em a call or something, tell 'em you love 'em.

Come and get your love and Star Lord dancing might be the best movie introduction of all time. I gotta go with that.
