Do you all think that Crayon Shin Chan will open higher than LoZ SS HD? I know nothing about the series (the game series that the CSS game is based off of- the summer of), but it seems like the trailer got a lot of views?

Pre-orders for Crayon Shin-Chan begin today and for Monster Hunter Stories 2 probably after Monster Hunter digital event, every physical release in Japan until July is dated.

Preorders for Stories 2 have started shortly after the release date announcement (at least on Amazon.co.jp) but they're probably going to get revitalized after next week's event.

Even if Shin Shan does great (and I believe it will) it won't explode right out of the gate and outsell a Zelda entry imho.

It's from the Tales team iirc

There is no Tales team anymore officially since Xillia (merge of Tales Studio inside Bandai Namco) and looking at staff credits since Zestiria, thus many veterans moved around, some left Bamco altogether, some went to work on others Bamco project, some sticked to Tales development and there also was some back and forth.
There are some older Tales team members working on Scarlet Nexus but it can't be defined as being made by the Tales team.

A few parts of Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo) are going into a State of Emergency starting April 25... and it looks like large electronics stores, including Yodobashi, Bic, etc. will be asked to close. They didn't close in any of the previous SOEs, but some of them reverted to In-Store Pick Up.

Wonder what impact it might have on game sales during GW...

Two questions that might help in guessing how much of an impact this is going to have

1) We know that Famtisu doesn't directly track but estimates (correct me if I'm wrong) sales coming from Amazon; what about other online retail stores? To what extend does Famitsu track them?
2) Is it possible for Yodobashi, Bic, etc. to go with In-Store Pick Ups during the upcoming SoE?

It's hard to say. They're being asked to straight up close for the duration of the SOE. The idea is to reduce the need for people to go out. In-Store Pickup would be in defiance of that. I haven't seen any of their responses to the SOE yet and how they will operate those 4 prefectures.

Thanks. We'll have to wait and see on that front. What about Famitsu's ability to track online retailer stores that aren't Amazon, then?

For the love of God please do not release Rune Factory 5 in July.
It is releasing in May in Japan.

More generally the Late May (RF5, Miitopia) to Late July is a very strong 2 months period for games.

August could follow the trend depending on what will be announced at E3 (for now it is Yu-Gi-Oh and NMH3 month).

Fixed :P

Also, you should mention Utawarerumono Zan 2 for PS4 / PS5 among July releases.

Still wondering if there may be one more surprise left for July.

Come on Namco, where's my Taiko no Tatsujin game to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the franchise come on

Has The Silver Case (Switch version) already been released in japan? In the West it is also a July game...

The Japanese version has already been released.

Actually, now that you mentioned a NISA-published game: is there no update on when the Japanese SKU of Ys IX Switch could be released? That might become another July release if it's released simultaneously with the Western release.

Fall Guys for Switch is a summer release too (not dated yet). But not sure if there will be a retail version or it's just digital.

Sure, but it's already out. In theory, a big Anniversary celebration would feature multiple initiatives / projects anyway.

Although it's also possible that the next Taiko releases straight into November / December, taking the place that Wii / Wii U releases used to have.

What's the prediction for Returnal? Any chance to break 5k? Lol
It should at least chart. While I do expect Returnal to do poorly relative to other Sony published games, I do expect it'll sell at least two thousand physical copies in Japan in the first week of release, which should be enough to put it in the Famitsu top 30.

26./30. [NSW] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 <SPT> (Konami) {2020.07.09} (¥6.980) - 1.390 / 297.187 <80-100%> (+5%)

A few more weeks to 300k. With digital 350-375k is probably the number.

Mainline game could be double this number.

It might see a quarantine boost but then you have the Olympics and the Japanese national team playing in it. Plus summer break and being a sports game on a mainstream console. That's a recipe for success.

Fingers crossed for a million.

Super Robot Wars Hagane no Chou Kanshasai 2021 set for July 11

Bandai Namco will host the free online event “Super Robot Wars Hagane no Chou Kanshasai 2021” on July 11 in celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary, the company announced.

Assuming a new game isn't announced before this event in July, the Super Robot Wars anniversary game will be released sometime between October and December. I'm also assuming that the game isn't going to release only 1-2 months after announcement.

Possible launch alongside Switch Pro?

The biggest success from Square on Switch (and of the most successful new JRPG IP of the past decade) is still Octopath Traveler.

Their JRPGs are pivotal into diversifying the Switch output and establishing an audience.

Games like MHS2 and SMT5 will only reap the rewards of the seed cultivated by Square and Nintendo.
Adding to this, Nintendo's home consoles from the N64 through the Wii U mostly struggled to get 3rd party support. Handhelds have been a different story and it's not coincidental that they've all been successful.

My point is, Nintendo should be doing everything possible that's within its means to encourage publishers like SE to bring games to their platform. They're on the cusp of regaining the level of support from the SNES era and Nintendo shouldn't risk annoying devs with the exact sort of pettiness that made it easy to jump ship to Sony's platforms. Who cares how much SE is investing, consumers just see a Nintendo platform with a wider variety of games than just Mario/Zelda.

Mon-Yu launches July 15 in Japan

Dungeon RPG Monster wo Taoshite Tsuyoi Ken ya Yoroi wo Te ni Shinasai. Shindemo Akiramezu ni Tsuyoku Narinasai. Yuusha Tai ga Maou wo Taosu Sono Hi wo Shinjiteimasu.—or Mon-Yu for short&#8212…

This isn't going to sell that much at all, but still...again. And again.

(same week as Skyward Sword HD and Shin Chan actually)

It's hard to tell how well SS HD will perform. It is the least appreciated Zelda game but seeing how Link's Awakening sold so well, it might do better than i think. Feels like it should sell better than the original.

It will defintely sell better than the original, SS came in the end of the Wii cicle and had awful controls. Being in the Switch and with a better option of controls will do wonders for the game.

Also, since Breath of the Wild, the Zelda series gained many new fans. Skyward Sword is the transition from Old Zelda to New Zelda and I dare to say that the soundtrack is more remarkable than BoTW, not being necessarily better or worse.
