I think that the trend of shaking up formulas of games if not only for NPD.
Intlligent System seems to shaking it for Fire Emblem Switch
Game Feaks also for Pokémon Let's Go
Fire Emblem Warriors adds character Swap and some strategy elements.
And some others listened to criticisme for games like Mario Tennis (with a solo RPG mode), Mario Party (return to old formula), Xenoblade Chronicle 2 (return to story focused game) ...
Also Bayonetta 3 should be quite different.
For me it's encouraging for future games like a new Paper Mario that could return to old formula.

Since this time preorders will be open for 4 whole months before its release and not the typical 2-3 months window, with Nintendo advertising I'm sure everyone will know this time it's coming out in November a long time before. Not much hype outside of the hardcore players. But that is the same with ANY Pokemon game. Most kids didn't even know Sun/Moon were coming out until about a month before. They were busy with Yokai Watch. The hype machine hasn't really even started for most of the target audience.
The core of Sushi Striker was done at Nintendo in-house. One of their female directors came up with the original concept of a game about Sushi. Indiezero was just brought in to help flesh out the idea. WarioWare was also always designed in-house, with Intelligent Systems simply providing programming assistance.Switch version of captain toad might be a port by EPD Tokyo, but Sushi Striker is by IndiesZero and WarioWare Gold by IntSys (with as always EPD as a supervisor, but not developed in house) if I'm not mistaken?
any news on Mrio Tenis first day of sales?
I find it reasonable to expect something around 60k next week.

That day has only just begun. Minecraft first day of sales should get a percentage in several hours.any news on Mrio Tenis first day of sales?

So, my predictions are:
Hardware:
Switch: 60k
PS4: 30k
Minecraft: 50k
Mario Tenis 80k
PS4] New Gundam BreakerJust curios to see why you think PS4 will have a better week this upcoming? Are there noteworthy releases ?
Hmm, I think PS4 will be somewhat down week on week actually, considering the days of play ended and I'm not confident that Gundam Breaker will push more than a couple thousand units of hardware, also considering there already has been a Gundam Breaker game on PS4 that might have moved over parts of the fanbase. So, my predictions are:
Hardware:
Switch: 60k
PS4: 30k
Minecraft: 50k
Mario Tenis 80k
Yeah, I kinda feel I am overestimating that one. COMG has it rather high (over 100 pts for the three skus) but amazon has it really quite low (top sku is 16th, not at all high for a PS4 game that just released), so it could very well be lower than what I said. We;ll see tomorrow when the first day sell-through numbers come how well it did day one, and from there I could probably speculate a little bit more accurately. If the Gundam Breaker sells over 100K, I thind it difficult to see PS4 selling under 25k

Is this the same "THE" series on DS? They made like 20 of those games.
So barring some unannounced game we could say that almost all the big hitters for 2018 are already announced. Pokemon Let's Go is probably going to be number 1 for 2018 in Japan but could Smash Bros Ultimate sell more than Monster Hunter World in 2018? Which games could fll the rest of the top 5? Splatoon 2, Kirby... anything else I'm missing?

I think NSMBU Deluxe is coming to Switch in late October.
But for announced games, not sure what else you're missing.
I don't know how much Splatoon 2 will sell in 2018 but do you see Yokai Watch 4 selling more than Kirby in 2018? (with legs and holiday bumps I expect to see Kirby at least with 750.000 LTD at the end of 2018).
I didn't mention it in my last post, but firstly I think that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will outsell Kirby this year.
Moreover, I am expecting a huge November/December for the Switch, thus the games releasing during that time will benefit from it and YW4 will likely be a December release.
So I am going to say that it has a shot at outselling Kirby, but it is not a sure thing. We'll see first what the game looks like in a week with the reveal.
So your top 5 would be something like this?
1.- Pokemon Let's Go
2.- MHW/SB:U
3.- SB:U/MHW
4.- MK8D/YW4
5.- YW4/MK8D
Interesting.

M-C Top 10 2018:
1) [PS4] Monster Hunter: World(Capcom) - 2.006.158
2) [NSW] Splatoon 2(Nintendo) - 615.107
3) [NSW] Kirby Star Allies(Nintendo) - 533.672
4) [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe(Nintendo) - 450.303
5) [NSW] Super Mario Odyssey(Nintendo) - 348.562
6) [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild(Nintendo) - 247.094
7) [3DS] Pokemon Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon(Pokemon Co.) - 241.583
8) [PS4] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2018(Konami) - 208.392
9) [NSW] Labo Variety Kit(Nintendo) - 189.720
10) [NSW] Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze(Nintendo) - 171.528
First Tier
1) Pokemon Lets Go
2) Smash Ultimate
3) Monster Hunter World
4) Splatoon 2
Top 4 is set in stone as far as I'm concerned, I don't really see how it's possible for these four games to not end up the best selling games of 2018. The only interesting thing will be the placement - whether Pokemon outsells Smash or vice-versa. In the end Pokemon's earlier release should push it over Smash unless we see Smash heavily bundled for the entirety of December.
Splatoon 2 is able to have some insane numbers for the rest of the year to catch up to MHW. In order for Splatoon 2 to catch up to MHW's known numbers it would have to sell 50K on average for the rest of the year. So far Splatoon 2 has sold about 25K on average for the first 24 weeks of the year with a 55% attach rate. For Splatoon 2 to reach 2M this year it would probably require for the Switch to sell over 5.5M in 2018 in Japan, this would translate to about 36% attach rate for Splatoon 2 during 2018. I think we can probably get a better idea about what to expect for this year after Obon begins and we see what type of shipments are being made to Japan.
Second Tier
5) Yo-Kai Watch 4
6) Minecraft
Expecting both to be close to 1.5M this year, not too sure which one would come out on top but to me these are the two biggest 3rd party games on the Switch from a sales perspective in 2018.
Rest of Top 10 Candidates:
7) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
8) Dragon Quest Builders 2
9) Kirby Star Allies
10) Mario Tennis Aces
11) Labo Variety Kit
12) Taiko no Tatsujin
Is this the same "THE" series on DS? They made like 20 of those games.
TBH I'm kinda impressed by the versatility of the dev, or maybe they are made by different teams? The, um, THE series are basically the old Simple Series games that were these nifty budget titles that could come in all shapes and sizes. In fact, I believe it was the origin of Onechanbara and Earth Defense Force on PS2 before they became their own more proper franchises.
I think they still put out these kinds of games on virtually all systems to this day. However, they usually don't expand to more than a couple of games, and they always seem to begin with a Mahjong game.
TBH I'm kinda impressed by the versatility of the dev, or maybe they are made by different teams?
Thanks, gonna have to take a look at The Miniskirt Police, sounds way too much fun. There are hundreds of games in the simple series. It has it's heyday on the PS2. Lot's of different devs (Tamsoft of Onechanbara fame is one) and tons of great ideas. I guess these games could be called "Single A" or "B tier" at best but there are so many unique ideas. Some of my favorites are:
The Daibiji (Shoot down this Godzilla like bikini girl destroying the city)
Ambulance vs. Zombies (Exactly what it sounds like)
The Miniskirt Police (again exactly what it sounds like)
he Splatter Action
etc.
But the series kind of ended after PS2. They tries a few with the Wii. A few with the DS. A single title on the WiiU. 2 on the Vita. I think they made a few for PS3 and PS4 but they were (I think) download only.
Thanks, gonna have to take a look at The Miniskirt Police, sounds way too much fun.

Japan's always had a thing for robots. That cute little love story between Japan and Detroit. To think Dark Souls Remastered went out of the top 10 before Quantic Dream's game is funny.
