Switch top 10 despite a decline in HW and SW sales.

AC nearing 5m and Clubhouse with a great hold !

As a Xbox player first and foremost those numbers are depressing, and also makes it obvious why so many JRPGs are skipping the platform (Dragon Quest XI, Ni No Kuni, etc). I really hope Phil will get some enthusiasm over there for next generation, even if the titles are mostly for the western audience since I don't think they can turn those hardware numbers around.

Nice, uneventful week. I was expecting TLOU:R to sell even more than last week. Is it out of stock?

Really curious about the Pokémon bump for the next few weeks (months?).

After securing Yakuza, MH and KH I do feel like DQ should be the next major push for Phil. I could see them using GP as an opportunity to push the series in the west.

Isn't it sad to think that NSO is killing Minecraft, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Pokemon, Animal Crossing and Smash Bros?

OUT OF TOP 30

It's gonna be hard for XCDE to keep the pace of XC2 from now on.

Clubhouse games DS 2nd week: 36,985/101,979 (-43%)

Switch version takes the lead at retail, and that's without any digital included. This game could very well outsell the DS game by a large margin. 1M seems possible imo.

Xbox gets more of the major third party JRPGs than Switch.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also the lack of Japanese presence shouldn't have any relevance for Ni No Kuni considering how bad that IP does in Japan.

Maybe, but Japanese companies aren't usually quick to support a new system. I remember reading about Yoshida telling the media a few years ago how he told Japanese developers to support multi-platform instead of one system (PS3-PS4-Vita), this is probably the same strategy. also, it was reported recently that any new PS4 game submitted after July should support PS5 too.

Not really. I can't think of anything other than Final Fantasy (which is back to be a PS timed exclusive), and Tales (it didn't get those until very recently too).

anyway...

01./01. [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons # <ETC> (Nintendo) {2020.03.20} (¥5.980) - 77.259 / 4.860.488 (-21%)

2 more weeks to reach 5 million physical. this game gonna break records for sure.

How in the jigoku(hell) can PS5 penetrate this market LOL

Japan is almost dead for traditional home consoles. It does not matter that much, however, as most Japanese publishers have their biggest audience outside of the archipelago anyway: Square, Capcom, Namco, Atlus....have millions of fans in Europe, the Americas and the rest of the world, so they will be developing on the next PS5 regardless.

If only there was a system that had record breaking sales both in Japan and outside....

Good 2nd week for Clubhouse Games. It should reach a million shipped by the end of the year, not sure if it will hit that physically or not.

hiska-kun I love how stable the Switch was in 2018. That shit was almost a straight line for 45 weeks.

77k, good hold in its 13th week. It needs 140k (70k both weeks) to hit 5mil... will AC make it by end of quarter sell thru retail?

It doesn't actually though. It gets new FF, KH, Yakuza, Souls, Nier and some of the big Bamco games (new Tales, Kakarot, etc) but it misses DQ, YW, SMT/Persona, Asano Team, other Bamco games (Digimon, SRT, etc)... it's a pretty even split tbh but overall it's losing badly when you figure 1st party too (Pokémon, Xeno, FE, etc) and start figuring in the lower rungs of pubs (NIS, IF, Marvelous, ASW, Kadokawa, etc, etc)

Kingdom Hearts + Nier as well. The only other big third party JRPGs are Persona and Dragon Quest and only the latter releases on Switch and not Xbox. Unless I'm missing something?

See unlike other Japanese publishers Nintendo games don't sell well outside of Japan...

I really do hate the false dichotomy

Saying Europe, the Americas and then Japan is disingenuous as it's not a fair comparison. Japan alone is still the second biggest country for PS4 sales. If Japan is almost dead for traditional consoles, then traditional home consoles are almost dead everywhere else in the world too.

After securing Yakuza, MH and KH I do feel like DQ should be the next major push for Phil. I could see them using GP as an opportunity to push the series in the west.

I sure hope so! After switching from PS4 Pro to One X I've been dying to replay DQXI. :D

Oh, I thought Switch was doing good with third-party JRPGs, but maybe my example of DQ and NNK was a bad one since they actually released on Switch. Shame NNK is performing poorly in Japan, I loved both the remastered first game and the sequel on PS4.

Keyword "major". Even then on the Digimon front Switch only got the late ports of Vita games over Xbox, Survive is being released on Xbox too.
