COMGs preorder chart has gone very low today.
Multiple releases today (SAO, Baseball) and so we now have more than half the chart below 10 preorders. And only 4 SKUs in the 30+ range.
The 20th entry currently has only 2 preorders.

Thankfully the next Direct seems to be close and preorders might finally open for a lot of big games (Bravely Default 2, Rune Factory 5, Momotaro Densetsu, Mario...)

Good sell-through for both I'd say. PS4 SKU has the lead at day one, we'll see if it'll change by the end of the week end.

So if it follows the usual sales trajectory for Switch games (increase during weekend), it could come out on top, huh. Wasn't expecting that so early tbh.

5th week for Clubhouse Games at top of eShop rankings, over eBaseball opening.

eShop charts cut off right before launch day. We'll see next week if Clubhouse Games will be able to hold onto #1.

The last mainline entry for a Nintendo system was in 2009 for the Wii. After that it was attached to PlayStation.

3DS got a spin off in 2016 and Switch another one last year (which sold over 200k LTD).

It feels like that Sony cares more about small developers and indies when new console launches as it takes time for big games to start to appear on the platform. Then when they have gotten the hardcore crowd on board and console starts to get frequent big third party games they start to care only about big publishers.

The care about money, soo they will give priority to the ones that make them more money.

I've definitely seen that said about indies, hence the renewed push for indies from SIE, but until relatively recently we never heard complaints and the perception has been that Sony took good care of the smaller publishers especially in comparison to Nintendo(or even Microsoft).

Sony doesn't have infinite money, and we all saw their huge push to sign exclusivity deals with big publishers. That money has to come at the expense of something else.

I remember a while back that Sony flat out said that they will focus on AAA in the first few years of the PS5.I don't think they really care that much for indies. Switch and Steam are much better platforms for them in any case.

That was in the WSJ piece I mentioned earlier. That's where the quote about not catering to small developers because they have to support PlayStation anyway came from.

They could use that money to make a better console and then let developers put their games on anything they want freely, then let consumers decide which console to get their games for.

Yeah I must have missed that. Generally speaking though they can only spend a limited amount of resources to marketing and the lions share will go to big games and it makes sense. Sony is in the high end market and it's been very profitable for them. That market, while niche, is very predictable and profitable. The market doesn't buy Sony consoles to play indies. I don't see any reason for Sony to ever push indie titles or smaller scale stuff for the PS5 unless it's the next big hit.

Yeah they did they the small publishers will come anyway because it'll be successful no matter what.
Seeing how Sony invest their money for the PS5 is pretty telling.

That's pretty much what happened with the PS4.

Though tbh, there's this "new platform effect" in the months preceding launch and the first 6-12 months where just adding "New Console Name" to your PR/Tweet nets you a lot more attention that normal. Was something else for the Switch, lots of people took advantage of that, including many games/pubs that are still (!) MIA to this day. Lots of games came out so much later after other platforms, yet got this big visibility boost by announcing Switch port even before port/dev even began. PS5 is/will be no different in that regard.

Kinda similar effect is the Nindies Direct and the likes.

In the end it comes down to the fact that it's not exactly wrong. The reason smaller publishers/developers will be frustrated is that they want to be on PlayStation, not that they can't be successful.

At least Sony didn't shorten their new "PlayStation Indies" initiative to Pindies.:P

I find this very interesting..

04./07. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe <RCE> (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} (¥5.980) - 10.037 / 3.015.080 <80-100%> (+7%)
06./09. [NSW] Splatoon 2 # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2017.07.21} (¥5.980) - 8.114 / 3.478.749 <80-100%> (+10%)
07./08. [NSW] Pokemon Sword / Shield # <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2019.11.15} (¥5.980) - 8.111 / 3.647.104 <80-100%> (-7%)
08./12. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate # <FTG> (Nintendo) {2018.12.07} (¥7.200) - 7.111 / 3.744.880 <80-100%> (+13%)

Though it doesn't happen every week, with these games it has lately become a bit of a pattern where the lowest selling game sells the highest weekly, making them all catch up to each other. It's quite fun to follow. Would be great if they all reached 4 million physical...

They all have a chance. I mean, the only one which might struggle is Splatoon at this point.

Splatoon is up by a lot YoY, and the way it's selling looks like 4mil will be achievable by next year.

Pokémon dlc keeping the legs up, so it hitting 4mil is likely now too, maybe before years end of holiday does well for it

Yep. Among the bunch it's the least likely being farther from the milestone. But it keeps selling remarkably well.

Not that it matters in the end as including digital sales they will all be way above 4m, lol

Konami has made the return of mainline Power Pro Baseball to Nintendo systems after a decade a big deal, from announcement to advertising. Strong sales from the beginning were expected.

It might be difficult to do that given the audience for the game on PS.
switch version has been selling well havent they? im not sure if they are exactly the same games, just know they are konami baseball games

i dont expect switch to sell significantly more, it'll be close but i think switch should edge it by a bit

Jikkyou also has fans that are children, and they rarely have the money to buy a game at launch. This could mean that the Switch version has longer legs.

I understand that what happened is that they went on to support only those types of projects if they were for PS VR, since they needed games to support the peripheral.
