If we get any Falcom Switch games it will be though NISA.
Any new games like Ys IX or CS3/4 yes but I could see older games ported by other publishers too. Things like Gurumin (Mastiff), Ys Origin (Dotemu) or the Trails in the Sky trilogy (Kadokawa). The biggest question mark is really Xseed.

Games released on the PS3 where PS4 owners had already played them? Interesting comparison you have there. Allows me to see how your brain equates a 2 year old late port with a 5 year old late port on another generation of consoles. Fascinating.
Fascinating that you think Vita and Switch are the same generation.

Ah, thank you for pointing that out as I worded it poorly. Obviously the Vita and Switch are not the same generation. I was referring to how ToCS I & II had already released on PS3 and so many PS4 owners had already played it on that system, but that the Ys VIII Switch release was the first on Nintendo system so Switch owners didn't already have the chance to play it on 3DS or Wii U.

Did we ever get any data on preorders for Pokémon SWSH vs Let's Go?
There is hardly a competition. Comparisons with previous main entries will be the important.

First we'll wait to see at October how much vouchers limit retail sales. Since Pokemon is priced at low side the effect could be more limited.

I don't think platform ownership delineates along these manufacturer lines as neatly as you imply. Switch is very much the successor to PSP/Vita despite not being a PlayStation and not that dissimilar to your PS3/4 comparison.

brazil, unfortunately
Why people act like "switch owners" and "ps4 owners" are totally different entities that will never overlap each other?

We have solid data affirming that at 50% of Switch owners own a PS4 or a Xone

Falcom always lowers the level of discourse in these threads. Is there something special about them as to why people keep complaining/defending about them?

Why people act like "switch owners" and "ps4 owners" are totally different entities that will never overlap each other?

You assume said people argue in good faith. Most people don't carry that kind of tribal mentality.

Also, where did you get that 50% number from? I don't remember seeing that before.

Switch owners belong to the same market as everyone else in Japan.

Releasing on a Nintendo system a late port of a small IP that was previously connected to Sony doesn't mean a brand new audience can be discovered. Those who really wanted to play the game before have done it. West is a different case since it's a much bigger place and games with low sales can be expanded more easily when there are appropriate circumstances.

As for the previous comparison I made, Trails of Cold Steel on PS4 is actually at better position than Ys VIII on Switch. Third system they release, both handhels and home consoles are already covered but much bigger time gap and lower price. Sales at both cases weren't anything special.

Those Smash sales are something else? Isn't this the first time since the GameCube that Smash has outsold Mario Kart anywhere?

I'm still unsure why the opposition to comparing CS1/2 PS4 to Ys VIII Switch? It seems pretty similar contextually. Maybe it's worth looking at other 3rd+ version Falcom ports and how they sold?

I know the overall digital percentage for Switch titles is around 20% of total sales, but niche titles seem disproportionately skewed towards digital releases.

Like for example, Omega Labyrinth Life sold just 6,643 physical copies opening week on Switch, but I really wouldn't be surprised if another 6,000 was sold through the eShop.

Is there evidence for this claim...?

Do you think it's time to question the usefulness of Famitsu sales as a barometer for how a game is performing? I know NPD in the USA / Canada crossed that threshold long ago with digital sales at >50%, but I wonder if it's finally catching up to the Japanese market.

Or is the physical market still critical for niche titles?
I don't think there is any evidence to indicate that. Only Nintendo first party titles are suspect right now because they are vastly discounted via the NSO vouchers, and are likely to have their digital share exceed those of games that launched before the vouchers were active.

Smash bros, for example, had only about an 18% digital share in Japan. SMM2, however, probably had like a 30% share.

They manage to gather those resources when it comes to Steam ports. Personally I'd argue they can't really afford not to port what they can to Switch now that NISA's eating their lunch on new localizations. Even better if Marvelous can also publish the games in Japan and help build up the market there too.

I doubt that's the case for Japanese games at US. For AAA games of western publishers there's apparently big digital share with GAAS and MTX model most of them follow but when we talk for Japanese publishers it's not the same.

During Q1 the overall digital share on Switch was 26%, but that's a global number. You're probably right about niche titles having a higher share but we don't actually have any hard evidence of that on Switch as far as I know.

But yeah in general retail sales are telling us less and less over time.

Well, you asked "Is the game that bad?", so the way I read it was that you assumed it was at least somewhat bad. While my English is quite good, it is not my native language,so I sometimes miss nuances.

What I intended to ask was if the game is as bad as its sales.

I didn't see any reviews and famitsu's score aren't that reliable, so I really don't know how good or bad it is.

That bodes well for FETH legs. And evergreens are increasing.
Retailers like GEO and Tsutaya always underestimate evergreens and long sellers and usually overestimate newer games because of deals they do. Mario Maker most likely went up last week because of Obon holidays coming, it's unlikely Fire Emblem followed it.

First we'll wait to see at October how much vouchers limit retail sales. Since Pokemon is priced at low side the effect could be more limited.

We'll see when digital pre-orders start, but not expecting too much for Vouchers for this one due to the audience.

So far, the 5 games where vouchers impact has been confirmed are:

- SMM2
- FE3H
- Astral Chain
- Zelda BOTW
- XC2

All 5 games have a sizeable "core" audience (young adults basically), and high price tag for all but SMM2. Pokémon definitely has a sizeable "core" audience too, but as you said it's not as pricey as other games.

Really curious how SS will fare digitally.

50% of this thread is about concern trolling for Switch software sales numbers and/or 3rd Party reactions to them.

Some people love to create Drama as long as the official data doesnt prove them wrong - no matter how (un)likely it is.

You made me really curious so I looked and I also have to say, wow. That was certainly a choice.

So the world of the movie is a VR game based on DQV which the mc is taking part of, and Nimzo/Mildrath (Final boss) is actually a virus.

I guess their idea was that the movie's story would be a celebration of DQV's impact in japanese culture, but I just don't know if I care much about that plot development. Have to see it for myself to judge but my initial reaction to it is not a good one.

Ok, now you got me curious. Had no interest in the movie (especially with the complete uncanny valley character models), but that plot twist really is something else. Will probably try to watch it one way or another.

You can't extrapolate digital share from value. Physical limited editions and eShop promotions are included in there. It's not a 1:1 comparison.

True, but it should still be in the ballpark. That number compares total revenue of packaged game sales (physical + digital) to digital only revenue of packaged game sales. Many games that have physical limited/collectors editions also have digital ones.

I'm not sure how the voucher revenue is counted though. I would assume it would be lumped in with "digital sales revenue of packaged software" since the vouchers can only be used for retail games.
