Before people ask about Hardware data: Famitsu only shared data for Week 31 and 32 combined. It's possible to calculate Software data since we have Week 31 data for it, but not Hardware since we don't have Week 31 data for it.

Other than that, nothing much to say. Sales are as expected for me.

A note about this week's software: we got a two week combined report, so the top 10 given is for two weeks. The numbers in the OP are derived from last week's numbers, so we don't know if anything should slot into that top 10 that didn't reach the top 10 over a two week period. We will probably get a top 30 for the week alone so by then things should be fine again.

That's only because sales were aggregated across two weeks.

SAO likely isn't at number 10 this week. It was launched last week collecting around 12k units hence in Week 32+33 is in the Top 10.

It's likely that the #10 title is "wrong" for this week, software for two weeks is combined and SAO is what came in at #10 for two weeks. Something else might be above 4,597 for this week.

SMM2's legs are pretty consistent. Should be one of Nintendo's evergreen titles.

Fire Emblem's legs might be good after all, hope it keeps selling thanks to word of mouth.

BOTW is a funny one in terms of legs. It often climbs less during holidays than games like Mario Kart and Minecraft, but maintains better holds in slow periods. I guess it's an evergreen witha slightly different audience than most other evergreens.

Keep in mind that software sales are up this week due to holidays, so the sales are higher than a typical drop would put them at. I don't think its legs are anything special currently, unless it manages to have strong holds in the next weeks (so far, its drops have been incredibly typical for the franchise outside of this week).

I was disappointed in SMM2 debut but the legs have been incredible. Good WoM
Hopefully when they finally update to play online with friends it will get a big boost.

Japan really into that fishing game wow

Of course, numbers are not quite in sync due to Switch currently being in a holiday week. Let's compare FW/LTD after 8 weeks:

SMM1: 143,514/386,421 (2.69x)
SMM2: 196,153/536,839 (2.74x)

So far, the ratio is similar, with the difference being that SMM2 started quite a bit higher than SMM1. SMM1 had the following biggest week during the holidays:

Expect SMM2 to go well above that. I think it can do 150k or higher during a week in the end of year holidays.

I don't remember any prediction of yours about the game. For example, I'd never have thought about this performance because I never thought about the game to begin with.

Also, it's the first Pro Baseball Spirits game since 2015. Sometimes, a temporary hiatus does wonder.

So it turns out that FE Awakening released before Golden Week, so a comparison with FETH might be possible, although I don't know if its fourth week is in fact the Golden Week (probably not, judgin by the harsh week on week decline):

It's interesting that after 4 weeks the weekly sales for week 4 are almost the same (Awakening 10% higher), while the first week sales were vastly different (Awakening ~ 80% higher). Looks like legs for FETH are somewhat better in relative terms, although that doesn't negate the low opening week (with the caveat of digital quite possibly being very high for Three Houses).

Fates fourth week:
06./04. [3DS] Fire Emblem Fates: Black Kingdom / White Kingdom # <SLG> (Nintendo) {2015.06.25} (¥5.076) - 22.158 / 478.432 <80-100%> (-30%)

A similar story for Fates: weekly sales level is 47% while first week sales were about 145% higher.

Edit: I realise that the premise of this comparison is a bit flawed because of Obon week, on second thought. A total/firstWeek division should be more informative:

FETH: 143,130/213,592 (1.492x)
Awakening: 242,600/361,790 (1.491x)
Fates: 353,201/478,432 (1.355x)

So yeah, legs are somewhat better than Fates but about the same as Awakening so far.

It's 42% off of 9500 yen, making it around the same price of SMM2.

For a game with a very middling (2.5 stars) review score I've really been surprised at how long it has stayed in the charts.

I know but it still a significant discount that should be mentionned imo.

That Switch sold almost as much as last year in spite of the two incoming revisions bodes well for its sales in the coming month. I guess the 3k digital coupon is also helping.

Pro Baseball is another Anthem situation.

High sales and sell-through due to hype => game gets a big second shipment => word of mouth kills the game legs => retailers are forced to discount the game.

I don't think anything can match Anthem at going from undershipped to overshipped in a single week.
