Following the Media Create data about Spider-Man (+96% of the initial shipment sold), DualShockers reports they were unable to find any copies in Akihabara across saturday and sunday. Of course Spider-Man is at the top of the digital chart at the moment. The second week will be strong but not as much as it could have been, even a 140K shipment was too conservative.

In other news, not sure if this was reported but EDF5 has reached an impressive 350K copies on PS4. Best selling entry of course.
Spiderman is doing well, but Akihabra doesn't seem to reflex Japan as a whole about the stock situations. There was a case here where some people couldn't find switch copies of MHA when they arrived in akiha, even while the game didn't suffer that much of a stock issue as a whole
Akiba really isn't a good place to get games these days, everyone knows about it and is fixed on getting their toys specifically there. Have you tried Surugaya in Shinjuku, or Broadway in Nakano (although this place gets a whole lot of traffic now too)?

How well do people think Super Mario Party will sell? The last few have been lackluster (about 200k LTD for the last 3 titles), but the "return to form" and Switch factor make me think the game could do really well.

Worldwide I think it could become the third best selling MP in the series.
I don't think it will come anyway remotely close to 10 million though (as some on Era are expecting).

Looks like the thread for that dualshockers article didn't turn out so well: https://www.resetera.com/threads/we...-akihabara-japan-in-its-second-weekend.68964/

https://www.yodobashi.com/?word=spider-man

Should have looked a little harder. the biggest game store in Tokyo, Yodobashi-akiba, currently has it listed as in-stock on its website, and a quick phone call with some very bad English confirms they're on the store shelves.

I'm at work 2 hours early and have nothing better to do.

The physical release of Undertale seems to he ranking well on Switch. How did the PS4 and Vta versions do?

PS Vita is still in production? I thought Sony discontinued yet already?
Only in the west so far. Hardware hasn't seen new shipments in a couple years now and software production stops early next year with final orders having already ended.

Digital releases will probably continue awhile longer but with PS+ dropping legacy platforms and the rumored looming PSN overhaul for PS5 prep I wouldn't be surprised if Vita's digital days are numbered too.

It probably can hit 500k this year alone if you ask me. I would believe that 12 switch fans would be hungry for more party game experience.

I don't know whether it's in stock or not at that time, but "in-stock" on English yodobashi website don't mean it's in stock.
Actually, it's out of stock now in yodobashi akiba, shinjuku, ueno, kinshicho, kitijouji, machida, yokohama, and kawasaki according to Japanese yodobashi website.

Nintendo will push Super Mario Party as one of holidays big titles alongside Pokemon and Smash, at least from the part of marketing it will be a big title.
___

Shipments for Smash Bros. And Pokemon bundles aren't limited at all. Both will be over 5 digits and it's still unknown if they'll be one time print or be restocked for entire holidays.

French numbers are :

20k for the Pokemon bundle
30k for the Smash bundle

So probably ~3-4 times more in Japan.

Oh was wondering if he said day 1 shipments for Pokémon and Smash Bros yet. Or if he gave new updates sales figures.

Yes he did.

Smash :

- 450 000 copies
- 30 000 Switch bundles
- 20 000 Limited Special Edition

Total : 500 000 copies

Pokemon :
- 600 000 copies
- 20 000 Switch bundles
- 40 000 Pokemon Plus bundles (I have a doubt on this one)

Total : 660 000 copies

Any idea on how Pokemon's first-day shipment compares to previous Poke titles?

Comparable with Sun/Moon. So the biggest ever. As a reminder, S/M shipped 10m day one.

Good sign for Pokemon. Seems to go against the general consensus that Pokemon will underperform previous mainline entries and that smash bros will be the better selling game.

Obviously France doesn't equal the world but it's a good sign.

Pokemon LG is more comparable to remakes than mainline series so I based my expectation on the sales of Pokemon remakes.
I do think Pokemon Lets Go will outperform other Pokemon remakes and even reach 15 million which is usually a threshold reserved for mainline Pokemon games.

It's definitely a 2019 game now, but at least the TGS demo has a neat title screen ;)
What about Yo-kai Watch 4? Will it come out in December?

We'll know this week for sure, since it's meant to be playable at TGS. Maybe we'll get to see the title screen thanks to Hino, too ;)

I really want to know what's causing these issues at L5.

I really don't think it's so much issues, rather than a bad habit of announcing games and release dates/windows too early. That and trying to tackle too many projects at once.

From the moment Inazuma Eleven lost summer release window and World Cup a second delay to 2019 looked very possible. All resources must be on Yo-kai Watch 4 right now for a December release.

The fact it's delayed is not what's surprised me. The fact they'vs already announced a sequel when the game isn't out and won't be until next year, now that surprises me.

I don't know how Go Vacation will perform given that its a porting of a Wii game but on Wii the game sold amazingly well in Japan:

WII Go Vacation 42.388 378.714 Bandai Namco

It will be interesting to witness how YW4 will perform.
This is how previous Level-5 cash cows (already declining on the original console) performed during the transition from DS to 3DS:

NDS Professor Layton and the Last Specter 301.290 676.069 Level 5 26/11/2009
3DS Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask 117.859 396.914 Level 5 26/02/2011

NDS Inazuma Eleven 3: Lightning Bolt / Bomb Blast 462.377 1.018.381 Level 5 01/07/2010
NDS Inazuma Eleven 3: Team Ogre Attacks! 181.706 461.791 Level 5 16/12/2010
3DS Inazuma Eleven Go: Light / Shadow 141.458 455.172 Level 5 15/12/2011

3DS Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sushi / Tempura 581.191 1.522.304 Level 5 16/06/2016
3DS Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki 333.240 768.604 Level 5 15/12/2016

Puyo Puyo eSports out on October 25th, and is digital-only on both platforms (PS4 and Switch).

https://www.famitsu.com/news/201809/18164290.html

Do you have that tweet? I didn't look at it carefully, but I seem to recall thinking the sequel was to the anime.

Only the new anime was announced, but for some reason, some twitter users reported as new game announced. 4Gamer report makes no mention of a new game announced.

https://www.4gamer.net/games/347/G034785/20180906012/

Now it's obviously there will be a new game down the line, but no announcement yet.

Yes :p

But they are not totally surprising. Mario Kart 8 and Odyssey broke 500k (retail only!) last year on a 911k userbase. Zelda was not far behind (and the WiiU version already sold very well).

Now they'll have twice the userbase so the numbers are achievable and even if it is not sold by year's end, legs in Q1 would take care of it.

Switch is going to have the biggest holiday of a Nintendo console ever me thinks.

DS 2008 : 11,89m

Will be very very tough to beat. Imo, next year should be even bigger.
even if Switch only manage to close on em, those numbers were on Wii and DS 4th and 6th Holiday, this will be Switch just 2nd one. so pulling that kind on number is already insane. further if they really manage to break the 12M barrier (something non of their hardware have done)

Even PS4 best holiday so far sit "only" at 9.7M

are we gonna get any hits or whatever from Nintendo's closed door media event?

Unless I missed an announcement, there's no "event", it's just Nintendo meeting devs/pubs, not a private conference/presentation.

Squeenix confirms Dragon Quest X does not require NSO sub to be played. Makes sense since it's a MMO with monthly sub and Square-Enix are the ones in charge of the whole network part of the game.
