When I was doing the 4 weeks for each year, I saw 3DS had a 510k+ week. Insane. Imagine if NSW is still demand and supply that final week they ship like 1mil lol.

And 604k by dengeki (week 51 2005):

DS 604,000

1 PS2 Kingdom Hearts II 517,000 (Square Enix)
2. NDS Animal Crossing: Wild World 431,000 1,263,000 (Nintendo)
3. NDS Mario Kart DS 293,000 662,000 (Nintendo)
4. PS2 Naruto: Narutimate Hero 3 204,000 (Bandai)
5. NDS Tamagotchi no PuchiPuchi Omisecchi (Bandai)
6. NDS Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon: Blue Rescue Force (Nintendo)
7. GBA Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon: Red Rescue Force (Nintendo)
8. NGC Mario Party 7 (Nintendo)
9. NDS Brain Training 85,000 1,058,000 (Nintendo)
10. PS2 Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence (Konami)

1460k >>> 3DS11 (MK7/SM3DL)
1253k >>> 3DS12 (ACNL)
1051k >>> NSW18 (SSBU/Pokémon LGPE)

It's interesting to compare only because this year it's all on demand/supply with no new mega release.

I want to do DS but can't find numbers :(

1695k DS 2005
1292k DS 2006
1026k DS 2004
888k DS 2007
843k DS 2008

They are keeping the IP relevant every year while developing the sequel. It is a good strategy imo, Octopath 2 should be big.

It'll be big if it's releasing next year. 3 years after the original game is a big time. 4 years would be too much. Bravely Second docet.

If you call it holiday period you should include week 1 (New Year) too. If you are just comparing Decembers, then it's fine.

Your right W1 is holiday too, it's just I didn't want to mix numbers from different years. That's why MC was better since it tracked New Years with Christmas period.

Ex: This year W52 will end on the 27th but MC would of been on the 3rd of jan

if you don't count week one then I believe DS, 3DS and Switch are only consoles that have had over 1 million decembers. Even with highly successful Playstation consoles sales were split more evenly over the year (and week 1 has always been traditionally more important for PS consoles). Nintendo has always been the holidays company. Maybe PSP could have done over a million in 2010 december (dat Monster Hunter craze) but they run out of stock (hence massive stock issues in early 2011). Although technically launch week of MHP3 was week 48 so not in your comparison (most of the week was in december though and game itself launched in December)

That's a very specific week for the evergreens lol.

RFA is whatever Nintendo decides to ship and HW:AoC will be a 325k seller fw.
yeah i thought it was just the sweet spot in between the ps5 launch and november releases and when evergreens take over in mid-late december, so it wouldn't be too obvious what the top 10 would be

..but yes obviously i forgot about Ryza 2 lol

One of the lowest FW/LTD ratio among big sellers (without considering budget versions or budget reprints), indeed.

So far, Ring Fit FW/LTD is 4%.

On DS, Brain Training had 1% (44.166 FW / 3.847.136 LTD). Tomodachi Life had 2,7% (100.371 FW / 3.692.859 LTD). DS Kageyama Method: Dennou Hanpuku - Masu x Masu Hyaku Masu Keisan had 3,2% (10.790 FW / 335.393 LTD). Zaidan Houjin Nippon Kanji Nouryoku Kentei Kyoukai Koushiki Soft: 250 Mannin no KanKen had 3,4% (12.579 FW / 363.171 LTD).

On PS1, Tetris had 1% (4.669 FW / 503.058 LTD). Mahjong had 2,3% (18.033 FW / 787.685 LTD). Parappa the Rapper had 3% (28.082 FW / 937.976 LTD). Impossible Qube had 3,3% (24.531 FW / 750.740 LTD).

I know its obvious but man PS1 and DS were beasts. These games with these low first weeks that just continued selling forever were basically evergreens for those systems. Constantly helping the console sell more hardware year after year as people picked them up. Amazing stuff.

They were mainstream platforms and helped in making video games more popular among new segments of the market.

Those games were often targeted towards a wide audience and were easy pick-ups. Sometimes they were new IPs which of course couldn't have huge big FW numbers and sold thanks to word of mouth.

I think some of these dynamics are now absorbed by digital channels. Games like Tetris and Mahjong are now often digital-only releases. However Switch has proven that such evergreens can still be a thing (outside of course usual Nintendo sellers—I mean, Splatoon had legs on Wii U too).

That Famitsu article really has me yearning for a Tactics Ogre (PSP ver) port/remaster on Switch/Steam/PS4/Xbox. I assume Ogre and Ivalice both fall under CBU3?

Sony has shut down all info from Japan, if Japanese PS blog released September digital ranking without informing the above them it won't happen again.

Lets see, their blog started with this , which implies we should see going forward

Translated
Announcing the September download rankings for the PlayStation®Store in Japan! Introducing four rankings: PlayStation®4, PlayStation®VR, free-to-play titles, and additional items (download content)!

In the PlayStation®4 title, "eFootball Winning Eleven 2021 SEASON UPDATE" released on September 17th (Thursday), celebrating the 25th anniversary of the series, ranked first! In second place is "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout," which was distributed on PlayStation®Plus as a free play title in August and has remained popular since then. In third place is "NieR: Automata," which was announced with the latest work in the series and had a 50% off sale.

In the free-to-play titles, the finally released "Genshin" and "Spellbreak" are ranked in one-two!

Avengers didn't do very hot at digital either, it was available for almost entire September.

Not many things have changed since last time we got Sony rankings from Japan. Like eShop, games with deep discounts rule the charts. At least this time they have separated DLC, if this continues we'll have a general idea for purchasing trends but there's again no idea for how big numbers are unless we get sales PR for specific games that chart.

More and more switch since 5 days in many stores, good numbers it seems :)
Thanks for the photos. I didn't know that there's a purple & orange Switch set available in Japan. It says "Nintendo Tokyo Set"—I guess that means the Nintendo Store in Tokyo? But if the set is exclusive to the Store, how can it be available here?

Those Joycons have been available since last year(?), alongside the Blue and Yellow set. They are by far the best looking.

It was available only from Nintendo Tokyo Store (through lotteries) but Nintendo started distributing it at other retailers too. Of course you won't have to go there to buy it.
