Animal Crossing is going to be huge, it's exciting to see the marketing around it just because we lack news and the game release in 40 days

If y'all thought New Leaf was immortal, wait until Nintendo drops New Horizon DLC. It will be the biggest evergreen game ever released.

Could be a Top 50 seller for years and years with no end.

I was guessing a "not Smash/Pokémon"-esque opening sales for Animal Crossing due to it's nature of being a "daily app" which would make people prefer downloading it rather than purchasing a physical copy. After all these pre-order bonuses and other junk people will get when purchasing a physical copy, I dare to say it will be within 7-digit numbers on opening, and blast Switch HW sales somewhere between 250k and 350k.

Only if Nintendo gives enough stock of Switch to retails...

I'm really wondering how many of the limited edition version of the MIku game they printed. For such a huge otaku fan favorite to not be sold out on Amazon just a few days before release is very much not expected.

Most people seem to be expecting AC switch to go higher than new leaf overall (and I agree), but what about retail only comparisons?

New Leaf had high digital sales thanks to stock issues which plagued its launch. Nevertheless, digital sales are higher on Switch than 3DS and stock issues might occur again, especially as New Horizons is expected to be huge. Hence I think the game might go above 4.5m at retail but close to 6m at digital.

New Leaf had quite a decent digital share itself due to launch shortages, but New Horizons' share will of course be bigger. It's so hard to say, but I'm not convinced the 4.5M retail number would be impossible for ACNH.

The game is going to be a certified bomb. From the perspective from a non-Miku fan it looks like there's just very little new content in terms of songs/mvs?

They advertised the Joycon mode or whatever but I don't think anyone cares about that kind of thing, seems like an audience misread like Way of the Hado in USF2.

With the coronavirus stopping production in China, would that impact any possible casual games that use peripherals like RFA that could arrive later in the year? Such as lower stock or their release timing?

"Granblue Fantasy: Versus is at 1st place.Reservations were filled before it was released and it is currently being restocked and sold. Although it is a fighting game with characters from the popular smartphone game Granblue Fantasy, there it has also an action RPG mode.

Pokemon Sword / Shield and Ring Fit Adventure kept 3rd and 4th place."

Even in my previous I said Switch OG could drop to 20-30k levels. With these rankings might be higher, I would say 30-40k. This or just the Lite took a good part of its sales.
I don't see a drop overall yet.

Both Switch and Ring Fit look to have avoided extreme supply problems last week. Current one will be more difficult.

If Animal Crossing is getting an expansion like the in-game purchase is making us believe, it'll greatly affect its legs, especially if it's more expansive than Welcome Amiibo.

Well, considering Welcome amiibo was a free update, it would be hard for any non-free DLC for AC:NH not to be more expensive :P

At least there won't be any random cards to collect this time.

Please do understand that I'm speaking mainly of otaku, the ones that live for limited edition goods like the 10th anniversary box. I completely understand that for those that aren't suckers drawn in by 'limited edition' goods to pass on the game itself as it indeed doesn't offer much. But I mean, there's 250 different Miku PVC figures out there. There's a gigantic crowd who are suckers drawn in by these sort of limited edition goods, so I was just expressing my surprise that Amazon still has both the Amazon exclusive LE and the regular LE in stock so close to release.

PS4《

"After the Lunar New Year holidays the Taiwan's list hasn't changed much. The best selling game is still Ring Fit Adventure, which has been replenished but demand remains high. Super Mario Party jumped to the second position, maybe because the lack of new releases favors the Switch long-term sales games. Pokemon Sword / Shield still ranks third, but its buying interest in Taiwan has faded a little. Luigi's Mansion 3 returned to the ranking to take the fourth place. Lastly, the high acclaimed Yakuza 7 closes the chart.

The Korean ranking is exactly the same as last week, and only the first and second position swapped."

These lists always skew more towards PlayStation and mature-rated games. That's their readership.

Still between this list, comg and Amazon... I think this will play more like DQ remake than a FF remake. 800k-900k opening with a 1.5 million bow. Could go even higher if reviews are good, which judging by the size of Squeenix's checkbook they will be. 40/40 Famitsu score incoming.

Somewhere. I think.
Was looking for some info and found this tweet from Prototype:

It says that the retail version of Summer Pockets on Switch has been regularly out of stock (with latest shipments on February 7th). Found that rather curious, because that's not really the kind of game to have legs. Have to wonder how often it's selling out, because I don't remember seeing the game even in the Dengeki Top 50 in the past few months. Pretty sure there's a minimum amount of carts you can order from Nintendo, which means shipments can't be just a few hundred copies.

Guess we'll get an idea when we get the MC Top 1000 in a few months.

most of these "otaku" you are referring to probably only buy games on PS consoles.
limited edition or not, they won't touch anything released on Nintendo consoles.

Lite can have decent supply for a few more weeks. If production in China restarts soon and a big part of potential Animal Crossing buyers shifts to Lite because of no other alternative Switch will survive in February without big loses.

What can we expect for tomorrow's numbers ? Were the supply issues severe enough to stop the YoY growth ?

The way the PR was worded makes me believe shortages won't really kick in just yet, and it was simply a warning due to the impending release of AC (basically telling people that if they want the console in time for the game, they better buy it NOW). Of course, it's likely the announcement led to an increase in sales due to people doing just that, so shortages will come sooner rather than later anyway.

Or maybe I'm just spouting non-sense. We'll see how things go in the next couple of weeks anyway.

Shortage for OG Switch has already started, Nintendo is just trying to arrange weekly shipments so that there isn't complete sellout by sending every available unit to retailers at once.

Shortages started before the PR at some stores (especially online stores). It wasn't spread to the whole country yet, but it was already at low levels everywhere.

At the moment the OG model is completely sold out, both online and retail stores. For Week 6 it will move the last units it had, and along with the Lite, it will still manage to be above last year numbers, but for Week 7 numbers will drop to 2-3k or lower if there isn't a new shipment. Lite will have to carry Switch sales completely.

Damn, this could be the worst situation for Nintendo with a big game releasing this soon, but Animal Crossing is lucky enough to be an evergreen game.
Hopefully the virus situation in China will improve soon but I understand if they want to be very careful about it.

Somewhere. I think.

Oh? I thought shortages were limited to specific retailers, not spread out. My bad.

Wonder when NA and EU will start being impacted by shortages.

Oh boy this means we will see an influx of "Are we sure it's shortages and not demand slowing down" comments in the coming weeks if the situation won't improve.

Maybe not in this site but people on Gematsu will claim it for sure.
