Going by the (leaked) description, this seems like another game in the style of The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince. That was a good game and I'm interested in another game like that, but yeah, those will probably be another NIS game that barely sells.
liar princess did something like 100k worldwide. i think in the us it's one of their best-selling non-disgaea titles. so it's possible this does okay - but it probably isn't repeating the same degree of success.

Oh wow, that's surprising. The game has a combined total of under 15k in Famitsu (via GDL). I suppose this is another case of NISA supporting NIS.

Media Create has one extra week (week 53). Smash sold 54k that week. However, even with this, there is indeed a huge difference.

Usually, Media Create numbers for Switch first party are higher than Famitsu, one reason is the inclusion of Amazon.jp sales.

Oh I completely overlooked that, good point.

But yeah, still huge differences. I guess the reason is mostly that Switch 1st party software is undertracked by Famitsu as you say, but considering that Nintendo shipped 0.95M of SSBU in calendar year 2020, and we know that its digital sales have remained strong throughout the year, it looks like maybe FFVIIR was also overtracked by Famitsu or undertracked by Media Create.

Another possibility is a typo from the site.

It's totally possible for Pokemon (including de expansion pass) and Mario Kart to be above FFVII. For Smash is indeed weird.

What else will join Zelda and Splatoon in getting a full-fledged sequel this gen? Surely Odyssey 2 and another Fire Emblem are in the works. Pokemon of course. Maybe Animal Crossing and MK9 could make an appearance.

There won't be another "mainline" Animal Crossing on Switch
And I'm keen to believe that MK9 will be a Switch 2 launch game imho (depending on the hw strategy that Nintendo will decide to have in the incoming years)
Pokémon will surely get an old "gen" remake, but I don't know if there will also be a brand new episode, on Switch
Fire Emblem...Well, damn, I'd already want another one, so...bring it on! Jokes apart, a remake this year and a brand new game in 2023 sound resonable imho

I honestly don't know what to think about Mario. I stil think that a 2D brand new Mario episode will happen on Switch.

Hopefully we will also get a Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

The easiest question would be who will not get a sequel. Expecting a sequel for most tbh.

I don't think an old port of a western fighting game would- oh right, Mario Kart.

When we're talking about Nintendo, "MK" stands for "Mario Kart".

AC will definitely not get another mainline installment on the Switch.
And I fully believe that MK9 will be a launch title for the succesor. Having such a huge bomb like that right at the beginning would be tremendous for the launch of the next hardware.

Pokemon and Fire Emblem are reasonable enough since past platforms like the 3DS got multiple mainline entries beyond the remakes.

Another new 3D Mario is possible but feels less certain now. This previous FY saw such huge attention on 3D Mario, I wouldn't expect another soon.

Mario Kart to me is the most interesting case. If they leave it for Switch 2 then it will have been over a decade since the release of MK8 on Wii U. (I consider Tour to be the true Mario Kart 9 anyway but for console players it's a long time) Nintendo bet big on Mario Kart for mobile instead of doing a new one for Switch and it backfired on them.

MK9 (or 10) would depend on if Nintendo ends up treating the Pro like a successor or just a stop gap, methinks.

I believe that Splatoon 3's existence is telling of how long until we can expect a numbered successor, and it ain't soon. So either MK9/10 comes in the Pro years, or be prepared to play 8DX until 2024 or some shit

It is interesting how Splatoon 3 has shifted back the time table for a successor, due to it being a multiplayer focused series that enjoys 2 years of post-launch support.

I think if the next main installment of Mario Kart does end up on the Switch, then all bets are off for the time table of the successor. That really seems to be the only mega franchise that could be primed as a successor launch game, since other main Nintendo series like Animal Crossing, Zelda, and Splatoon are all getting new entries recently or in the future on Switch.

Xenoblade 3
Pokémon Gen 9
Maybe ARMS 2?
New 3D Mario

I am still NOT expecting a Mario Kart 9. Unlike Splatoon 2, MK8D keeps selling even more each year, while Splatoon had already slowed down a lot after 2 years

As for Fire Emblem, I expect a remake of Genealogy of the Holy War later this year + a new installment at the end of the Switch lifespan, though it wouldn't surprise me if the new game also slips into the succesor's launch window/year.

Gematsu posted about the aforementioned leak so check that out, but what wasn’t posted are the screens and art, provided below: As you can see, this is clearly a sequel/successor to the adora…

I can't imagine their 2D games cost much at all. Plus as Anihawk said, Liar Princess seemingly did really well (specifically on Switch?). The fact that only a Switch listing popped up is likely pointing to a Switch-exclusive, which would be a first for NIS Japan if so.

Good news: I haven't played the first one, but among their new IPs this one got the highest score on my website, my reviewer liked it a lot (7.5/10).
Gonna publish the news right now (pointing at your website as secondary source, if you agree)

It probably just means that the retailer accidentally uploaded that one listing. I doubt it's not multiplatform.

NIS’ The Wicked King and the Noble Prince leaked for Switch, first art and screens

Gematsu posted about the aforementioned leak so check that out, but what wasn’t posted are the screens and art, provided below: As you can see, this is clearly a sequel/successor to the adora…
From screenshots this is a turn base combat. So I'm in.
Hero kid looks adorable :).

Somewhere. I think.
Miitopia releasing at June pushes next Tomodachi Collection even further, development might take longer than expected.

It took 3,5 years going from 1 to 2 and it's been already 8 years since Tomodachi Life came out.

I can see two reasons for the late releases (not mutually exclusive):

- give it breathing room against AC (and vice-versa) to optimise sale for both titles
- it's going to be a much more ambitious game than the first 2 games. With how AC blew up on Switch, I definitely can see Nintendo wanting a repeat with Tomodachi Life, and are taking the time to make sure the game is top-tier (the game does have lots of potential). That, and since it's going to be another simultaneous worldwide release, they'll need time to localise the game in 7+ languages.

Pokémon will surely get an old "gen" remake, but I don't know if there will also be a brand new episode, on Switch

Unless you expect the Succ to launch this year, then there definitely will be one (and people will complain that it's not for the Succ, mark my words :P). Game Freak never jump straight into a new console generation before the 2nd or 3rd year (that was the case for 3DS and Switch). So no new mainline Pokémon game on Switch could mean no new mainline Pokémon game before 2025 if Succ came out in 2023. And at the rate Switch is selling, 2023 feels increasingly premature for the Succ.

AC will definitely not get another mainline installment on the Switch.
And I fully believe that MK9 will be a launch title for the succesor. Having such a huge bomb like that right at the beginning would be tremendous for the launch of the next hardware.
That's a benefit of Nintendo software, they can launch a hugely important title with zero installed base and it will still end up selling a ton because its legs will persist throughout the life of the platform. Sony for example might have to make a calculation as to whether a big launch title which can drive hardware adoption is worth sacrificing some sales from the software (it usually is, for them)

Weird, but it sounds like they didn't allow it for Naruto but did for Kakarot.

Last time Media Create had a not Switch game in Japan / Taiwan / South Korea top 5 was Cyberpunk 2077 at mid December, 2 months ago, and this won't change soon.

It can last until Guilty Gear at the beginning of April.

So no dismemberment and I'm assuming decapitation depending on what sounds like their mood. That is no way to regulate content.

I think a new 2D Mario is long overdue tbh

SM3DW+BF can certainly carry the 3D Mario freight for the duration of Switch's life. Hopefully the Succ gets a brand new 3D Mario game in year 1 like Odyssey. That was a terrific decision.
