I weirdly can't find a good picture, but the Gozer building over Central Park is amazing. I actually saw the painting in real life when I was a teen at the Witte Museum in San Antonio. I wonder who has it now.

LoTR has gotta have some (I can't think of them off the top of my head, but I'm sure there were paintings used. Google images!)

The entirety of Dick Tracy frankly, ultra stylized backgrounds for nearly every big scene.

Manhattan from The Fifth Element. It's blink-and-you-miss-it in the movie, but the original matte is available in 4K and has endless detail to pore over:

Are matte paintings still used to day or have they been fully replaced by CGI backdrops?

Rally scene from Citizen Kane - stage is live action - everything else is a painting, with holes cut out of the audience (white highlights) and a moving light to stimulate a live audience

Ever since I saw I've loved the matte backgrounds from Dracula (1931 version)

Them being in black an white gives them an even more ominous and sinister tone.
