But then the Republican Party would be held to account for being complicit to a criminal administration and stealing an election... and who would want that? The message that America clearly wants to send here is that cheating is fine and will be rewarded even if you get caught. Just make sure you have some fall guys set up to take the blame and even if your patsy of a leader gets disgraced, the party still wins... and thus should conspire to cheat again in the future.

I must admit I find it baffling Pence's name never comes up. Dude knows how to hide at work.
At this point I have to believe the GOP's always tried to deliberately keep him away from anything that could implicate him in order to have him as an insurance of sorts for scenarios like this.

Mid-term elections will be an impeachment election, no doubt about it. The current Senate and House will not invoke the articles. Democrats will need to wipe the polls clean and make a statement in order to legitimise the action if there is to be one, rather than it appear purely partisan.

Did the money to pay off the two women come from campaign money?

If so, that would be pretty fucking huge.

Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty to five counts of tax evasion for concealing more than $4 million in personal income from 2012 to 2016 and to one count of bank fraud, for failing to disclose $14 million in debts in an application for a $500,000 home equity line of credit — the source of his payment to Ms. Clifford.

Eh, I hope there's more to Trump's impeachment than just campaign fraud. In the grand scheme of things, a couple hundred grand in hooker hush money is barely criminal. Of all the shit this Admin has been guilty of, I want something really horrible to nail these assholes.

If Obama's personal attorney had pleaded guilty to the FBI for conducting campaign finance violations under the direction of Obama to pay off his porn star mistresses to keep quiet in order to influence an election, Obama's would've been impeached within two days time.

But I get what you mean.

Yeah, as above, any other pres would have been long gone by now, the bar is so low I can't see it under all this shit.

I get you though, we are hearing rumours of "multi billion dollar money laundering with Russian Mob" style crimes.

Felony's are "barely criminal" now?

Remember, Al Capone was brought down for tax evasion. It doesn't matter what the crime is. It matters that he is guilty of crime.

The rush back to being "socially conservative" with a prence campaign/take over is going to be interesting as hell.
It won't be a good trade-off for the loss of the Trump base. They have no interest in Pence, they don't worship Pence, and they'd view it all as a total betrayal of them and Trump. They'd stay home.
The GOP know this, it's why they don't want to ever impeach and remove Trump, because it would lead to a total collapse of their voting base and this time there isn't Jimmy Carter to make a mediocre capitalization, there's a host of strong Dems who could absolutely wreck the GOP in 2020.

You can bet if they ever turn on Trump, it'll turn out he was a secret plant into the white house by Hillary to destroy America and that's why he did all the bad things.

100%

That's why I think impeachment is possible, because I feel like Trump's base is almost too radical and conspiratorial, and that in many ways he's not in control of them. One day everything is going to flip on Trump and it's gonna come hard and fast. And Trump has no real allies. Most of the GoP were vehemently anti-Trump during the primaries, and once things start turning legally on Trump, the GoP response will be "I'm shocked at these revalations, I cannot support the president having just found out about collusion/fraud/etc., we're a party of law and order, and we're stopping POTUS while the Dems sat on their hands."

New York state subpoenas Cohen in Trump Foundation probe
The subpoena was issued after Cohen's attorney said the longtime lawyer for President Donald Trump has information that would be of interest to prosecutors at both the state and federal level.

As a close Trump confidant, Cohen could potentially be a significant source of information for state investigators looking into whether Trump or his charity broke state law or lied about their tax liability.

Anyone charged with a state crime could not be pardoned by the president.

Yup. I remember a line from some movie, may have been The Firm. "It ain't sexy but it's got teeth." When the lawyer gave the FBI info on mail fraud for the law firm.

I know Capone was mad as shit to go to jail for tax evasion. Thought he was going to be in and out. All the murders, killings and they got him on that? Lmao.
