Story: https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/26/poli...-trump-june-2016-meeting-knowledge/index.html
(CNN) Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former personal attorney, claims that then-candidate Trump knew in advance about the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower in which Russians were expected to offer his campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton, sources with knowledge tell CNN. Cohen is willing to make that assertion to special counsel Robert Mueller, the sources said.
Cohen alleges that he was present, along with several others, when Trump was informed of the Russians' offer by Trump Jr. By Cohen's account, Trump approved going ahead with the meeting with the Russians, according to sources.

To be clear, these sources said Cohen does not have evidence, such as audio recordings, to corroborate his claim, but he is willing to attest to his account.

is it really fake news if Cohen testifies in court? I guess if they show footage of it on CNN, then maybe its just doctored? How does this work in the mind of your average trump supporter?

Probably a 50/50 chances that Cohen actually does turn against Trump and testify.
Guess we'll have to...

Trump supporters will gladly say the sky is purple while looking straight at it if Trump told them it is

Cohen's claim would contradict repeated denials by Trump, Donald Trump Jr., their lawyers and other administration officials who have said that the President knew nothing about the Trump Tower meeting until he was approached about it by The New York Times in July 2017.

Cohen alleges that he was present, along with several others, when Trump was informed of the Russians' offer by Trump Jr. By Cohen's account, Trump approved going ahead with the meeting with the Russians, according to sources.

per the story, Cohen doesn't have audio evidence or anything but his word, so they'll just claim Cohen is making shit up to implicate the president so he can stay out of jail.

(this works less well if the other unnamed witnesses also flip against Trump, but if those witnesses are, like, Don Jr and Jared, seems unlikely)

One of Trump's old senile lawyers was basically making this argument as soon as Cohen was raided, saying he'd say anything to stay out of jail because he's afraid of being raped by black men.

Trump's already under scrutiny for a wide ranging effort to obstruct justice and issuing a pardon to your former lawyer after he went on TV and said he had evidence to implicate you.... isn't a good look.

But I don't really know why Cohen is airing this out on CNN anyway rather than just, like, calling up SDNY/Mueller and making an offer.
