Yes you can, you can get decorations up to R7 but it's all luck based. But since the event can be completed in 3-4 minutes it's a really nice farming option. Even if you get shitty ones you can use them to meld for something different.

I aslo recommend using the guild cross arena armor set for extra rewards. I often get 5+ decs per run

Thanks. Considering I am not post game it's my best farming option right now for trying to tweak my builds. I know I should probably just push for post game but I like taking my time and doing a bit of farming with new weapons in HR.

How do you get that guild cross armour? One build I'm eyeing up recommends I use a piece. Do you have to join a guild or something?

Guild Cross requires you to complete all Arena quests and then you have to farm coins to craft it.

Is that the hunts that take place in the arena or is it the hunts that give you predetermined armour and ask you to kill monsters? If its the later I briefly looked at them and thought NOPE lol. Couldn't be bothered learning other weapons at the point I discovered them. I'll have to go back and do them now.

You have to do the arena quests where you get specific coins and you use those coins to craft the set. If you don't have the set then use two pieces of legiana set for good luck bonus. Not as effective as Guild Cross but hey, every bit helps :)

The latter. You need to do them in the Arena in Gathering Hub.

If I only need one piece do I still need to do all the arena quests to unlock it?

Maybe I did them all then and I just don't remember =)

Probably. I did it with another person and we kinda flew by all the quests in about an hour. It wasn't too bad at all. It was also the first time I used the Gunlance for the last one and it was easy. Farming certain coins is the real grind.

I'm fully on the Heath Regen Augment is OP train. I built an IG set for max power prolonger, medicine, and stun resistance. It's not the fastest but it's really hard to die and still capable of a standard Nerg kill in 6-10 minutes.
DYD7ji8UMAACVlb.jpg

Not shown: Health Regen Augment on Vice

I built a damage variant of the above by dropping power prolonger but I kept earplugs. Getting roared out of the sky sucks especially since I only try to mount near the end of a fight so it doesn't require much work to hop on a monster.

The reason for the Grancathar Kinsect is the Heal and speed stats. It zips out like a bullet and heals me for a ton (synergy with Medicine!) so I never need to use a potion if the monster has a tail.

I augmented my Gunlance with Regen and Attack, stacked full of decos to support it and I am regaining so much HP in major hits and rarely drinking potions as a result. I'm gonna pretty much augment Regen in every weapon now as the first Augment if it has extra slots. Way more fun being super aggro as a result.

Once I'm done upgrading my IG set I'm not sure there's much more for me to go after. I want a few more decorations (Protective polish mostly) but I don't think I need is nearly as bad anymore. I'll probably farm up a page or two of tempered investigations while the event is still running just so I have something to go back to but I'm reaching the end of the "stuff I want" treadmill and poking at a few different things. I still don't like bowguns, Switch Axe, greatsword or hunting horn and I have good to great sets for everything else. There's the Armor sphere grind but even that's almost done. Hopefully Jho give's me something to do. If not I'm still happy with the 300 hours I've dumped into this. It might not be my GOTY (too early to say) but it'll probably be my most played game of the year.

I augmented my Odo's lance with regen as well. It was all fun and games until I started getting hit for 70% of my health, like every time tempered Vaal turns around and its tail grazes the air in my general vicinity.

Sure, I can poke my way back to full health in about 20s, but it's a gamble. If I'm hit again before that, it's a cart.

Did you max out your armor upgrades and max out the augmented armor as well? He shouldn't be doing that much damage to you even if it's Tempered.

...Ok...so how high on the food chain is Anjanath any way? I was fighting one for a mandatory mission and it got its shit pushed in by a Rathion. It just picked it up and bodied it right in front of me. Which makes me wonder if I ever want to solo a Rathion.

Rathalos is def higher than Anjanath.

I'm having a weapon crisis and looking for suggestions. I've already built and played a good amount with:

IG - Nerg. My main setup for serious play.
Bow - Xeno. My alt weapon for serious stuff.
SnS - Legiana.
DB - Fire and Ice.
LS - Xeno(farming arena for Divine Slasher).
CB - Haven't made any endgame ones. It was my first main weapon and I got up through Nerg using mainly it. I liked the playstyle and will build endgame for it at some point.

I'd rather go with Elements that I don't have covered or Elementless(though Hazak and Nerg weapons are usually good) but I'm open to anything. I have my eye on Royal Burst Gun Lance and Hazak Lance. Switch Axe looks really fun too and I have no idea which ones are any good.
I'm currently having a lot of fun with the Jagras switch axe. It's unique. Has exhaust effect and sleep status. I usually put elder dragons to sleep at least twice with it. I have focus, flinch free, and earplug skills maxed so I can almost constantly stay in sword mode and easily mount the monster.

My latest toy is the Girros paralyze gunlance.

I think the insect glaive is better suited than lance for Health regen. By packing medicine you also boost the HP healed via kinsect green buff. This means I can go from ~30% HP to 100% in about 3 tail hits. Lance especially is tough since it only has 1 hard hitting hit (charging strike IIRC) and since HP healed is based on damage done you won't be getting much from it. Gunlance is different, a full shelling combo is almost a full heal. I don't think it's the best augment for all weapon types but you'll always see a benefit. VS Vaal it's more about combating the continuous damage than the big hits. Same with Teo, as long as you can outheal the burn damage you can stay in the thick of it.

Lavasioth has to be up there in terms of annoying bosses. Torch pods aren't good enough at softening its armor, and it seems like when it comes back up its armor will stay soft for maybe 20 seconds. And researching it means fighting it because it leaves 0 tracks. Thank God I'm done with that forever.

Also, constantly having to switch between torch pods and dung pods because Bazel keeps showing up isn't fun.

Gunlance was made for him. No matter what state it's at, shells, wyrmstake and wyrmfire always do full damage to him :)

If you are using different weapon then mindseye is your best option ;)

Still no mind's eye gem, and I'm not gonna rock 4 pieces of Rath gear just for one monster.

Besides, even if I don't bounce off the hard bits it still sucks to see 15 damage when you know if you hit the right spot you'd get way more.

It's funny, I don't remember Agnaktor being this annoying, and it's basically the same gimmick except without torch pods. Maybe the soft state lasted longer, or it just spent more time diving.

I hate Lavasioth, it has no redeeming qualities. Trash monster. It's not hard, just annoying.

But it goes down fairly easily when I pommel it with my top tier water hammer + 5x stream decos - which I crafted only to smash that lava blob into pulp.

I'm just going on expeditions and picking up tracks. Fighting it is a chore. I only need one more more level to max out research.

Hunting horn player here,
Max your build with "Wide-range/ Mushroomancer and Recovery up" stats then you'll eventually turns into a healer/buffer without drawing your hunting horn weapon, the only reason to pull your weapon is to buff your party with "Earplug L", I use "Datura Horn III".
This made elders dragons easy to manage/kill with parties.

You should still be hitting the monster, give everyone attack up XL and let them look after their own health. Anything else you buff in addition to that will just be icing on the cake.

He leaves a lot. Just do expendition like I mentioned. Wear a Ghillie suit and just follow it around.
I tried that and he just sat around swimming in the pools where he spawns. Only track I got was a tempered track that's guaranteed to be there.

Doesn't matter because I maxed out the research for him by killing him and now never have to fight him again.

Rathalos is definitely easier than Anjanath. I can take the latter down without carting, but it will never be a hunt I can comfortably do, nor one I look forward to doing. Rathalos on the other hand takes about five minutes and can be done on cruise control. Flash him, bash his head in, rinse and repeat.

It helps that Rathalos (and Rathian) have their heads close to the ground, so they're easy to hit with a hammer. Anjanath on the other hand is much more difficult to knock down. Anjanath also has big, wonky hitboxes and likes to abuse them by tackling you.

I also love it when Rathian shows up when fighting Rathalos at their nest. I always sheathe my weapon and run around, while they try to follow me like headless chickens until either one of them fucks up, breaks the dam and accidentally kills their partner.

Like a lot of monsters in the game there really isn't a reason to fight Lavasioth ever.
I still haven't fought him once and I'm at HR42. I have a few investigations and I think there's an optional quest for him, but the game gives me zero reason to do them. Same with Dodogama, although I ultimately needed to go after him to get the third camp in the Elder's Recess.

The last/second last dodge why did you go left instead of right? :P
You would been able to roll out with the last dodge going right again with just a sliver of health left.
Seriously though, fuck that mud .
