OP went all guns blazing without giving any context. There are these clout chasers on Tiktok that cosplay as a minimum wage employee on a retail job, such as Walmart and Target where they dress like the employees. And sometimes they do brand deals at the same time!

Edit: So Jarvis Johnson made a video talking about the current trend of influencers taking brand deals and making content about them working for free in places people are paid to work. I call stuff like this poverty porn and it makes me made as someone that works retail hence the heated original post. There are liabilities if someone does this and it will make peoples job harder and can cost people their job.

Jarvis is good people and he made a good video on this highlighting this.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xkc139b4jms

Guess Mr. Beast has inspired other people to get rich cosplaying as retail workers to make sponsored content. Shit like this can put workers jobs at risk fuck people that think they can profit off of us and then making sure to include shit like "Oh I paid for this persons stuff" to use as a get out of jail card to show how good and kind they are.

There's a dude at my work who does this.

He's not an influencer. Just a middle aged dude in a hoverround. More sad than anything but he spends like 40 hours there every week riding around picking up loose items, and such. Everyone seems to know him but nobody really seems to know why he does this. He kind of goes into the back room area which seems like something we shouldn't let him do...not that I think he's a thief, but it just seems like a bad idea to have a handicapped dude moving around in the back with all the heavy boxes and machinery. Like if a higher up saw that they'd probably throw a fit.

What does frustrate me is he has self appointed himself as like a security guard and will confront people he sees or suspects are shoplifting. Like he'll ban them from the store himself. Really weird behavior to do for free imo.

He's not a bad guy I guess but it just makes me wonder why you'd spend your free time doing that. Even during the holidays he was there everyday at 7 a.m.

He seems happy doing it. And I think he does have a wife? He doesn't seem to have any like intellectual disabilities or anything or mental issues where he's not aware of what he's doing.

Guess he's just bored. But it's like no joke every day. I've never worked a day where I haven't seen him.

I remember there were 1 or 2 people at the comic book store I used to go to that were allowed to go behind the counter and cash people out because they were just hanging out there all the time

What happens if one of these people "working" for free gets hurt doing stuff the actually employees are supposed to do? Any place that has people cosplaying as employees needs to tell them to knock it off for liability reasons like if a customer thinks that person is an actually employee and then something happens.....

Instead of volunteering your labor to some large corporate entity why not go to a soup kitchen or a shelter and help out there?

Unhinged.

Video has 70k+ views despite being posted 2 hours ago. I have no idea who this is, but people definitely listen to his podcast.

Jarvis is one of the nicest/kindest folks on the platform, absolutely one of the last people who should be gone after for this. He's probably bringing it up so that if people did listen they don't feel like they have to watch this too lol.

The OP doesn't even talk about what is in the video, just comments on the contents. Maybe you can summarize for those of us who don't want to give this person views?

Did you watch the entire video? He's critiquing it.

LOL.

It's a critque piece. The creator is not cosplaying as the working class.

OP didn't frame this video well.

It's a critique of those creating content cosplaying as Target employees or other retail employees using humor. But they're getting "brand deals" doing this.

Don't think you need the quote marks on Jarvis Johnson or the title of the video, makes the thread title confusing.

Yeah the OP title kinda makes it seem like Jarvis is doing this shit himself when the actual point of the video is him bringing up and criticizing TikTokkers that are doing this shit.

A lot of Jarvis's content is him pulling up this garbage social media content mill shit to rip on it. It's good work he's doing and he's got a real good head on his shoulders about it.

My bad, I have seen topics about youtube vids doing something like that to preclarify who's video it is but was not sure of the format. I'll request the title to get changed if anyone has a better suggestion

My bad, feel like trash and this shit gets me mad as a higher up who's job would be made harder by something like this. Like when the woman at the start tells a customer she does not work there like someone is not going to believe that and be mad enough to complain and some poor worker will take the fall.

How did it screw up? I just used the embed media button...

I dunno what you did but you didn't link the video directly and something messed up. Did you have it on a playlist or something?

Thanks for fixing it at least.

For posterity the link originally used was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xkc139b4jms&list=TLPQMTUwMTIwMjQXooeQ3BbJNA

It's fine. It's clear it's a dude discussing the trend when you see the video thumbnail

Yeah no it helps to have a visible thumbnail. Almost like thumbnails work or something. 😂

No, you wanted a quick way to profit off a TikToc video.

Very weird trend but the bathroom cleaning one is especially bizarre. Waiting for the Clean Girl ep where she gets booked for trespassing and has to clean her own jail cell toilet.

Wouldn't be surprised if some of the employees who have to deal with this shit end up with threats/vile messages from random teens given how many followers she has.

So much stuff on the internet is just bizarre to me. There's a person making videos about people making very popular videos of following trends on tiktok cleaning and pretending to be minimum wage workers. It's just all so surreal. I can't imagine wanting to watch any of this stuff on any layer. I recognize that sounds condescending, but I don't mean to judge how anyone spends their time--I'm surely not the paragon of time well spent. It just all feels like too much for me. Makes me feel so out of place and out of touch.

And the comments have people getting mad at the staff.
Yeah, I feel like Jarvis goes too easy on her: Doxxing employees, making their lives more difficult, and profiting way more than anyone who has to clean those toilets as part of their regular job. It's all kinds of fucked up.

There's no way they are not just clout chasing by stitching together five minutes of work in the most controlled, secure environment possible. That's deranged enough as is but the alternative of "volunteering" at Target is way too bleak to imagine.

Sounds ripe for a lawsuit from customers if he did something to them or if he got hurt riding around in the back room (?) Wild.

Yeah, I've had a few of these on my TikTok feed for a bit before I hated them enough it stopped showing them to me, it's wack. Jarvis hitting like usual.

I mean it is forum policy to watch the video in the OP of a topic before posting.

FWIW, it's forum policy when making a thread about any external content to provide an accurate concise non-confusing summary of the video so that people can participate without watching the video at all, or will be encouraged to watch the actual video, and doesn't misrepresent the video in any way.

Assume people have no context or idea about who you're talking about because there's always going to be people that don't know someone no matter how popular they are.

I just started at this store a year ago and I guess he's been there so long everyone's afraid to ask---

I actually brought it up the other day when he screamed at a customer they could "never come back" after he caught them stealing. I was like, he can't be saying shit like that.
