Released on August 18th, 1995, it's been 25 years since one of the best videogame-to-movie adaptations hit the cinemas!

I still remember the excitement, the long line at the theater, the crowd cheering at the end... It was great. I love everything about it; the cast, the fights, the lines, the main theme...

What are your thoughts on this historical event?

Saw this opening night in theaters, I was 14. As soon as the dude screamed "MORTAL KOMBAT" at the very beginning, the theater fucking erupted. I know people like to talk about Endgame, etc. as far as audiences cheering and clapping and whatnot, but to this day the MK opening was the loudest I've ever heard a fucking theater. It was insane.

Absolutely loved this movie, especially growing up I'd watch it every Christmas Eve because I knew the movie so well, time would fly and I could fall asleep quicker thereby waking up to Christmas Day itself ;)

I remember having the VHS version, a black and white version, then colour VHS, then DVD, and I had to import the Region B Blu-ray from eBay. Recently bought the Chase Edition Sub-Zero I've been hunting for my Pop collection too.

This was probably the first movie in history to top the box office where the 2 major leads were Asian:

I breathed and lived Mortal Kombat back in 1995, and I rewatched that movie over 50 times guaranteed. Still my most loved video game movie adaption until now.

A paradoxal movie that is bad but somehow also very good. I love it very much and still consider it the absolute best videogame adaptation of all time. It was entertaining but most importantly kept the spirit of the source material in a way that later videogame adaptations failed to do.

Best part about this movie is that it ultimately led to Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa to be Shang Tsung in MK11.

I've seen this recently and it's still really enjoyable. It's hammy in a really great way and I feel basically all of the leads are super charismatic and work very well. Linden Ashby and Tagawa in particular.

This movie is dope. I had a tape of the mask animated series and in the beginning was trailers for Mortal Kombat and Dumb and Dumber. Watched those trailers a million times lol.

Anytime I see the New Line Cinema logo, I'm always thinking Techno Syndrome.

It could be Lord of the Rings playing and I'm still gonna hear "MORTAL KOMBAT"

This is probably the first major movie I watched that had House/Electronic music so prominently, Paul WS Anderson was a visionary

Wow, didn't realize it was so long ago. That means I would've been 8 when I first saw it in the theater. Thanks mom!

I fucking loved that movie, everyone was on point, and I'm glad it's still influencing the games 25 years later.

I have a memory of renting this movie when I was like 8 and had a friend over. We watched it like 3 times in a row that day. Then he rented it the next weekend and we watched it at his house too.

We weren't even big fans of the game, it was just a cool movie that captured our imagination.

Halcyon On and On was such a perfect music at the end of the movie.

The movie was elevated by the characters and the loyalty to the source material, not the violence. I hope the new movie understands that.

Saw it in a theater, immediate hype as soon as the theme hit. But also, REPTILE! When the statute started changing and he came to life, I marked out so hard, but then I didn't think we'd see the bicycle kick either.

That movie delivered in spades.

Great film, time is only making people realize how good and visionary it was considering the subject matter. Asian leads, entertaining characters, techno/house soundtrack that made perfect sense, legendary one-liners.

And that Reptile fight.

Mortal Kombat is simultaneously great, bad and perfect.

I still bump Traci Lords' "Control" (aka Reptile's Theme) on a regular basis.

This explains why I had a craving last night to listen to this movie's soundtrack again.

I have so many good memories attached to this movie. It was the first time I went to a film without a parent escorting us, it was just me and my best friend. We had so much fun watching it and the audience there was hyped too. I bought the soundtrack twice over after the first disc got cracked in a drop. I recorded the 'Making of' specials that ran on TV as well. It was definitely the best gaming movie that really captured the spirit of the games.

I used to rent the VHS at my local petrol station with my cousin all the time.

I was thinking of doing a rewatch.
