Behind Vatican walls, the traditionalist Pope Benedict and the reformist future Pope Francis must find common ground to forge a new path for the Catholic Church.

Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce star in this intimate look at a historic turning point in the Catholic Church. Directed by Academy Award nominee Fernando Meirelles. In select theaters on November 27 in the US, November 29 in the UK and on Netflix December 20.

Cinematography looks incredible

I knew Jonathan Pryce would play Pope Francis one day. He looks too much like him.

Incredible casting. Ever since Francis became pope, people already thought Pryce looked a lot like him.

Between this and 'The King', Netflix is satisfying all my cravings lately with their upcoming offerings.

B... bu... but Disney+ ended Netflix I was told /s

Has anyone ever seen Pope Francis and Pryce in the same room? For Benedict XVI, instead of Hopkins, it should be possible to age Sam Neill.

Hope Pryce works on the Argentine accent. I'm gonna be livid if they just play it straight.

This kinda of content is why I cant see myself subbing to D+ on a permanent basis. I can only take so much SW and Marvel, remakes, and rewatching reruns before it just gets stale.

Is this movie basically porn for Catholics?
Don't see how it isn't unless they focus on the scandals

I'd be surprised if it isn't a damning indictment of the institution with Hopkins as oblivious avatar of the corruption and decadence of it.

Francis is in that regard a gigantic outlier - and has done a lot to upend the institutions.

He's no saint* and he presides over incredible centuries of historical and ongoing crimes and horrors. But in his own context he's a vast improvement.

*unintended but I may as well cop to it
