Dear learned members of ResetEra, I am 24 years old and I have never to my knowledge watched more than ten minutes of a James Bond movie. I've just discovered that a great swath of them are available right now on prime video, and I figure there's no better time to mend my error. But gosh there are so many, and I don't know where to begin. I guess I could go chronologically, but is that really my best option?

What say you, Era?

The only good one is Casino Royale. Someone will try and refute this with ad hominem attacks, but as someone who's seen literally every single one, it's true.

Casino Royale is great and a great starting point for newcomers. If you dig it, then jump to Skyfall.

If you want to go a tad older and played Goldeneye 64 growing up, it's still a fun movie.

For "classic", I actually like Dr. No a lot. It's fun at hits all the tropey stuff you'd expect from a Bond film.

I'd do these ones first.

1. Casino Royale
2. Skyfall
3. Goldeneye
4. Goldfinger
5. Live and Let Die

If he played Goldeneye then he needs to watch Moonraker too lol

I dunno, a lot of the Bond filmography is unjustly lionized because of the reputation/cultural legacy perpetuating itself.

Goldeneye is a good watch. I'm not as much a Casino Royale fan as most people here seem to be (although I'm the world's #1 Eva Green fan), but that and Skyfall have their merits.

Beyond that, it's like, eh, Goldfinger and From Russia With Love are interesting cultural relics, but besides those -- or even at the point that you're watching those -- you're just doing research for all the better pieces of cinema that have paid homage, parodied, or straight up ripped off the franchise.

Youre going to hate them all so it doesn't matter.

I like to think that I can enjoy and respect something with consideration given to its era. I like to try and put myself in the shoes of those watching it back in the day. I've watched films as old as Back to the Future III and enjoyed them fine (not the first two though, they were too old).

But for real, just the first thing I said.

I can also enjoy a good bit of camp, and I'm hoping at least some of these will provide.

It's just so offensive for so many reasons, I guess that's a reason to watch it....

To be honest I haven't watched it in years, but I remember I used to really enjoy it when I was young, and caught it several years back and thought it was still a zany riot. I mean, walking on alligators, voodoo men, venomous snakes and all the rest. It's just ridiculously over the top. That said, I can kind of appreciate why it might be regarded as really offensive now that I think back on it lol.

Here's the best ones to start off with.

- Dr. No
- From Russia With Love
- On Her Majesty's Secret Service
- The Living Daylights
- Goldeneye
- Casino Royale
- Skyfall

And that's the ideal starter pack right there. FRWL, OHMSS and Casino Royale are the top three Bond films.

Goldfinger is overrated, but alright. If you want to watch Roger Moore's era, watch either Live & Let Die or The Spy Who Loved Me.

LOL, no , how old are you ?

The Connery bonds are great

Only the first three or four Connery films are good, with his first two being his best. You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever are two of the weakest Bond films ever.

There's a bunch of good ones scattered throughout its history. Really, even the not so great ones have some awesome stunt work and locations.

I quite like Moore's For Your Eyes Only. And the end sequence of The Living Daylights is pretty great.

Goldeneye will forever be the best bond film as long as we live and you all know it whether you want to admit it or not.

Brosnan bless this thread.

from russia with love is probably the best starting point if you want classic bond. definitely dated though.

on her majesty's secret service is legit

I'm opposite of what I usually see with the moore movies, I didn't care for live and let die or the man with the golden gun but loved the weird ones like moonraker. for your eyes only is one of my favorites.

golden eye is good

the world is not enough is dumb but entertaining

casino royale is great

There's only really one Bond film you need to see: On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Consider all other Bond movies subpar efforts and thank me later. Do remember to post back with your endorsement.

It's fourth best. CR, FRWL and OHMSS are all just a bit better. But as far as introduction to Fun!Bond movies go, Goldeneye is definitely the king of the land.

That ending is so good. Only Casino Royale rivals it.

Taking into consideration your gracious and rather eclectic slew of suggestions and the availability of certain films, I think I may as well start at the very beginning. It seems like a highly appropriate place to start, despite the discouraging title.

Dr. No it is.

Solid list. Moonraker and Live and Let Die are must watches for the ridiculousness, but I will stand by The Spy Who Loved Me as much better than those two.

Why Live and Let Die? It's so bad
It provides some context for Wedding Crashers?
