Konami Digital Entertainment breaks new ground with an original spin-off from METAL GEAR SOLID V titled METAL GEAR SURVIVE. This title introduces a fresh spirit of exploration, unique mechanics and strategic co-op gameplay.

Following Big Boss' escape at the end of METAL GEAR SOLID: GROUND ZEROES, a solider on the collapsing Mother Base is nearly pulled into a wormhole that opens over the base. The soldier loses consciousness and awakes six months later in a facility belonging to Wardenclyffe Section, a secret research organization within the United States government. Players take the role of this soldier with a goal of rescuing those pulled into the wormhole half a year ago and to find a cure for a mysterious infection. "You don't get to sit this one out. You're already infected with that lifeform I was telling you about," a man named Goodluck in Wardenclyffe Section instructs.

METAL GEAR SURVIVE is a survival action game in an alternative universe. In a struggle to survive and understand this hellish new environment, players engage in both single player and connected co-op. In the battle for survival scavenged materials must be wrought into usable items, gear and weapons if you are to have any hope of making it home.

Key Features:

  • Two modes of play – single player and co-op. Character experience, skills and items obtained are shared between the two modes.
  • Build and develop your Base Camp. This offers access to crafting weapons and gear, and serves as a command center for planning missions in both single player and co-op modes.
  • Gather resources, blueprints and raw materials for use in crafting. These can be gathered in single player mode by exploring the environment or won in successful co-op missions.
  • Develop Base Camp with new facilities to aid survival, including crop growing, animal rearing, and food and water storage. As your camp develops you'll gain access to high grade crafting items.
  • Manage resources, including essentials such as food and water, as well as raw materials used for weapons, defences and expendables.
  • Complete daily, weekly and special event Orders for rewarding materials and blueprints to be used in single player and co-op.

I remember reading that the game is always online. This is probably why, right?

''Two modes of play – single player and co-op. Character experience, skills and items obtained are shared between the two modes.''

The plot doesn't sound like it's amazing or anything, but I guess it'll be the gameplay that matters most in the end. I'm not really expecting the game to have monologues regarding politics and war etc.

Yeah, that's the reason the game is always online, probably to prevent cheaters to ruin the experience of other players (because if you have all weapons, infinite ammo, all resources etc. you basically kill the difficulty of a game based on survival elements).

The fact that Goodluck is not the worst character name in Metal Gear history is quite something.

Some of these details make me think the whole wormhole/zombie thing is a swerve for something else.

If Konami plans on continuing this series after this spin-off, they're probably going to make Wardenclyffe Section something like the Patriots and be like a shadow force.

Why does this feel like an origin story for Death Stranding?
Yeah,i'm trying to hard here but the whole secret american organization dealing with wormholes and whatnot makes me think of Bridges somehow.

There's a guy named Goodluck? Sounds like Metal Gear, alright.

There are some curious things about that, like signs of the world being based underwater, Kojima's recon trip to Iceland while he was on MGSV. I'm not sure what it all means yet

This is beginning to sound like it is on the same levels of ridiculousness as Metal Gear Rising and actually that's what this needs because the story just can't be taken seriously.

I'm impressed that they're taking the idea of having a story at least a little seriously - you really don't have to with a '... + Zombies) game.

But ťhe gameplay still concerns me. Cutting down hordes of stumbling enemies seems like something a ton of other games do in more interesting ways (such as Dead Rising, or Dying Light), and I'd really like to have a use for MGSV's awesome stealth mechanics beyond sneaking up on zombies.

Seriously maybe if this "game" came out a year after Kojima had been fired, I would have brought it. Now it just seems like a cog in free spin and Konami trying to squeeze blood from a stone. MGS as a series is dead to me! Written by a butt-hurt fan.

Not even sure if I'll get tihs but please god don't make it have FOB style invasion trash where people can invade your base camp or whatever.

Why is game in quotation marks? What else is it.

I wouldn't call the literally two lines of plot taking anything seriously. I mean for now it appears that it has the complexity of the Fortnite PvE story which is almost non existent.

It's obvious it is a game similar to Left 4 Dead where there is no real story but a series of combat scenarios.

the plot sounds awful to be honest. i also can't shake the idea this is just a glorified horde mode coming about 7 years after horde modes were actually the new hot shit feature in games. just seems like it's literally too little too late, but maybe this is everything everyone has been waiting for from the franchise?..worm holes and zombies?

personally speaking, between this and vampyr i can't decide which is going to bomb harder?

I said I would play another Metal Gear game with this engine and at $40 bucks I'm pretty much down for whatever. Kojima not being attached is a plus to me, not a negative.

I just hope this game can bring it with the crazy weapons and items. MGSV was severely lacking on that front, and with this story there's no excuse for them to hold back.

How can it sound like Metal Gear when Kojima is gone? Not that MGSV was that great but expect nothing from this game. Nothing!
The single thing MGSV got praised for the most is the gameplay, and this game is basically an MGSV mod. Kojima or not, it's gonna take a master level of incompetence to ruin this... Not that I doubt Konami can do it!

Hopefully not Vampyr because that one actually looks great.

I like how their solution for how to proceed after Kojima was to just make it take place in an alternate dimension.

I have a feeling this game is going to be micro-transaction city.
yup, game sounds to be designed around it

All I wanna know is who was that black kid in suspenders from the trailer. What's his name and his story? That's all the game can offer me of any value.
