New ‘The Office’ Series Adds Sabrina Impacciatore, Domhnall Gleeson to Cast

The new iteration of "The Office" currently in development has started to flesh out its cast.

The new iteration of "The Office" currently in development has started to flesh out its cast.

Variety has confirmed with sources that Sabrina Impacciatore and Domhnall Gleeson are attached to the project, which remains in development at Universal Television. They would occupy two roles in what would be an ensemble cast, like the original versions of the show.

Greg Daniels and Michael Koman are co-creating the new series. It has previously been reported that it is not a reboot of "The Office" but is set in the same universe, meaning it would likely be set in a different office setting with all new characters.

Gleeson has recently starred in shows such as "Alice & Jack," "The Patient," "Frank of Ireland," and "Run." He is perhaps best known for his role as General Hux in the new "Star Wars" film trilogy. He has also starred in films such as "Frank," "Ex Machina," and "The Revenant."

Impacciatore picked up an Emmy nomination for best supporting actress in a drama for her role in Season 2 of HBO's critically acclaimed series "The White Lotus." She is primarily known for her work in Italian films like "Napoleon and Me" and "Miss F," though she did also appear in Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ."

I'm assuming this is for the main parts.

Will the supporting cast look like regular people again? Or will they be "TV regular"?

I've always thought Domhnall Gleeson was more selective of roles (barring a fat Star Wars paycheck).

And presumably a lot of people asked for it. I don't get it and never liked the show but its huge.

I liked the UK one and most of the US version, but it's had its day! I'm sure it will get viewers, but this non-stop rehash bullshit the entertainment industry keeps doing is getting so old.

oof

Workplace comedy potential has TONS of legs.

Not saying it doesn't. But the milking of "The Office" is getting to me.

My expectation for this new series is Arrested Development S4 and S5. Great shows are lightning in a bottle where you've got the right cast, the right writers, and a style & presentation that feels fresh for its time. I won't write it off completely, but I have a feeling it won't match the original show's heights.

Mulling it over a bit, considering how many regional adaptations of The Office there have been - including the one that this is is based on - this is probably one of the sitcoms with the best potential to have a non-awful spinoff. You'd mainly have to focus on capturing the relatable nature of the modern workplace rather than trying to milk the familiar characters and jokes from the original.

Granted, it's still a sitcom spinoff, so chances are that it's going to be awful.

I don't like Gleeson in anything outside of Ex Machina, and I don't like The Office (US) past the first three seasons. Bad news all around.

OG cast is going to show up in some episodes since it is the same universe and most of them need work badly

All I want is for Ryan to be the true Scranton strangler and his final victim, which got him caught, was Jim.

I hope it's a bunch of grumpy people upset at being dragged away from WFH by corporate mandate. Has comedy written all over it…
