As its the tradition after E3, Philippe Lavoué, President of Nintendo France, was asked to comment Nintendo's performance and expectations for the year. Here is a summary :

- Double digits growth since the beginning of the year
- Aim for 3m consoles sold LTD at the end of the year (1m more this year). [note : they sold 1,1m in 2018 so it is a very conservative estimate imo, but in line with Nintendo's overall forecast]
- PS4 and XB1 sales are slowing down significantly
- Best attach rate ever for a Nintendo platform; people spend more time than usual playing their Switch
- Switch's audience is skewing toward women way more than PS4/XB1
- Great expectations for Link's Awakening : "BotW put Zelda at a whole other level in France and Europe overall" , so they are expecting to ride the wave.
- Wants to sell more copies of Smash. Its performance is one tier below the numbers it is pulling in the US/Japan. So, they'll invest marketing wise to push it further [note: Smash has been charting in France top 5 the majority of the year]

BONUS : D1 shipments of notable releases (standard release + limited edition ;*2 for the double packs)

Super Mario Maker 2 -140 000 + 60 000
Dragon Quest Builders 2 -35 000 (up from 12 000 for DQB which was a nice little success in France)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 - 35 000
Fire Emblem: Three Houses - 50 000 + 6 000
Astral Chain - 20 000 + 2 000
Link's Awakening - 200 000 + 10 000
Pokemon Sword/Shield - 700 000 + 15 000*2

That's quite the initial shipment for Links Awakening. Switch révisions have to drop in September as well if they have so many copies planned.

But yeah Switch is a beast in France.

I like this guy. He was very bullish about the platform before launch which amused many at the time but boy was he ever proved right.

Good to hear all these facts and figures.

We Italians should learn from our French cousins - of course I am joking, just to say that French people seem to appreciate Nintendo more than here in average.

That is a huge Link's Awakening shipment. I wouldn't bet on it to be more popular than Mario Maker 2.

France loves Japan in general, and yeah of course Nintendo.

The DS sold an absurd amount here : over 10 millions for a population at the time around 60 millions lol.

Wow so much? That's impressive.

Besides, I also noticed that typically on amazon.fr Nintendo games cost 10€ less, maybe this is an additional factor.

BOTW has really bolstered the franchise's rep and appeal WW. A well-marketed sequel launched in a holiday timeframe is going to score in the SSBU territory sales wise IMO.

shipments for MUA 3 seem kinda low right after the Endgame hype or is that just me? I now it is a third installment in a series that is quite old but idk, 35.000 doesn't seem like a whole lot?

For reference, it is the same as NSBUDX day one shipment. If anything, I think the odd one is SMM2, especially the split between normal and special edition. Maybe they intend to bundle the game in the future ? I don't know.

Games cost less in France because of fierce competition coming from supermarkets which are selling videogames with a 0€ margin. Because of that, most retailers (Fnac, Amazon) price their games cheaper than in other countries.

SSBU is still another tier above imo. It shipped 400 000+ units at launch and sold them during its first month.

Huge shipment for Link's Awakening, but also for Pokémon: that's higher than Sun/Moon initial shipment by 130k iirc. Also, do we have a comparison for SMM2 with SMM1? Would be interesting to see!

Curious that he is predicting only 1M for the year when he's seeing double digits growth without any major releases, and last year already saw 1.1M in sales.

Seems MM2 expectations are about the same as NSMBU, which is a little lower than I would've expected tbh. Also interesting how ridiculously large that Pokémon shimpment is, Nintendo is really counting on that game being huge it seems.

22k for Astral Chain seems to be pretty good for the genre and being a new IP!

Hopefully it will sell its launch shipments fast because of WoM :)

Huh, similar shipments for SMM2 and Links Awakening, didnt expect that.
Also the low shipment of Astral Chains while expected, is a little bad sad as well :/

Interesting citation here:
Ce titre [BOTW] a permis d'attirer vers cette licence un public nouveau, dont des joueurs venus d'autres consoles.»
Translation said:
This title [BOTW] has allowed [Switch] to attract for this franchise a new audience, among which players from different consoles.
Curious that he specifies that those audiences are specifically non-Nintendo owners. I wonder if they have some strong statistics towards this.

Wow, I think they're massively lowballing with that MM2 shipment
Nah, that's a big shipment for a summer release and evergreen titles. You also have to consider that alot of people will go digital with a game MM2, especially now with the vouchers program.

200k is massive launch shipment for a plattformer launching in summer.

Do we know if he is talking sell-in to retailers or sell-through to customers?

PSA: The deepl translation of the article is surprisingly good.

That's only the stocks available at launch.

We saw games crushing those Day one figures. Super Mario Party sold 500k in its first three months for example (+300k vs D1 shipment)
