Approaching Connections puzzles while I'm sleepy is the predominant way I cut my streaks short.

At first glance it seemed tricky but it made sense. I had to really think about a word in the blue group.

This was one of those puzzles where looking at it, my immediate thought was "oh no way, I don't feel like doing this one late at night".

So I took a quick peek at the comments here to gauge its difficulty, and some comments (e.g. Blackpuppy right above me) implied it was an easy one, and like magic, the puzzle came to me very quickly.

Funny how that works.

I think if I say something is

pretty good, then that means less than good. It's a detracting word in that context where the rest are a good match for especially. That was the main thing that threw me off, but I also didn't know Tiffany was a shade of blue.

It's my problem, not the puzzle's.

Meh. Probably an error I wouldn't have sped into if I'd figured out earlier what purple was going for. Problem is the things from the blue category is what I thought would be the purple category, so I wasn't really looking out for the sort of word-fuckery that purple turned out to be.

Connections doesn't go into the "pure factual knowledge" well that often - OC does it more frequently - so it's going to be a purple that will either jump out at you or be completely perplexing

absolutely useless today. Could not see the 4th in the group of letter homophones and even when it was revealed I didn't get it for a while. Argh. Ended up doing usual overthinking.

is the sheep a cloud? maybe the steam from a kettle/teapot makes clouds, and the contrails? Even saying the damn things out loud looking for rhymes I didn't spot the simplest one!

That's a ewe, incidentally. A female sheep. Classic Concentration used that image all the time in its rebus puzzles back in the day.

Ooooh, "ewe" did cross my mind, but unfortunately it's a word I've mostly just seen and rarely ever heard said aloud. So I didn't know "ewe" was pronounced like "U", lol. Thanks for the info!

Purple really does not feel like a purple-level category.
