Man, it's gonna be too late. Between Bush and Trump, the rest of the world is gonna think every 8 years the US turns crazy. Then the world will turn to China and Russia.
There is plenty of literature about breastfeeding's benefits. Not just for the kid, but for mother too. It can even lower breast cancer risk.I was breastfed (and my mom can't shut up about how it's responsible for everything good in my life ) but I feel like I haven't seen strong, steel-clad evidence it makes a significant difference (it seems somewhat minor). I am not sure we need to badger women into necessarily breastfeeding their kids.
But I'll admit I have not researched the question deeply (just read a bit after looking at the corresponding items on 23andme)
But hey, only bullying until Russia proposes it, at which point we back down so Russia can look like the good guySo we're down to literally bullying other countries into doing what we want. What. The. Actual. Fuck.
What narrative that formula is better for your child? I've only ever heard how important breastfeeding is and even shaming of women that choose to (or must) rely on formula. And I have a newborn so I don't think I'm out of touch. Doctors are visibly uncomfortable even brining up the idea of supplementing with formula
The infant formula market globally is $45 billion. So, quite big!
Sure, but it brings tons of guilt to mothers who are not able to breastfed (I know at least two). There are lots of women who also would prefer not to breastfeed, even though they can, for multiple reasons.
I am obviously not behind the actual way this went down or even less supporting the nefarious effects of formula industry lobbying on health organization.
But it's interesting because in my experience the idea that women *should* breastfeed is much more conservative than liberal.
Yeah I can't help but feel that their efforts weren't only to set US policies align with theirs, but to discredit the country and allow Russia to step in like the good guys in the international stage.Man, Russia is going to make a total cuck out of America by the end of this not so subtle ongoing internal sabotage campaign
Fair enough.Resolutions like this are not really aimed at western nations, where the option of breast vs. bottle is not a question of public safety, but a choice. A few years ago, Nestle and other companies concentrated their advertising on poorer and developing nations, encouraging the use of formula, and making an argument that it was better than breast feeding. They provided new moms with samples of the formula, and encouraged them to start with the formula. This became problematic when the realities of cost and water availability caught up with young mothers, who had already stopped producing milk. It was evil.
Then again, we are talking about Nestle, who made noise about water not being a basic human right.
Edit: as you can see in the post just above.
...A Russian delegate said the decision to introduce the breast-feeding resolution was a matter of principle.
"We're not trying to be a hero here, but we feel that it is wrong when a big country tries to push around some very small countries, especially on an issue that is really important for the rest of the world," said the delegate, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
Nestle, also behind nefarious schemes for bottled water, and having massive campaigns to undermine tap water. That was a good read, thanks!Nestle did some fucking nefarious shit in third world countries, experimenting their formulas on poverty stricken mothers that lead to a ton of infant deaths.
There was a massive boycott of their products as a result.
How far we've come!

You literally have no idea who I am, so no, you don't. A career lactation consultant is not an expert in the science of this, that's not her job, in the same way doctors are not pharmacologist experts. And you are not your mom.
I am not talking about about women without access to clean water, obviously.
Sure, but it brings tons of guilt to mothers who are not able to breastfed (I know at least two). There are lots of women who also would prefer not to breastfeed, even though they can, for multiple reasons.

Unfortunately, repairing all of the damage done will take more than one term.
Followed by the right wing propaganda machine:
And the cycle will continue.
I didn't say I know nothing about it - I said I am not an expert. From your inability to read a one line post, I am guessing I might very well know more than you do about it. Having an informed position about this would take more than reading a few articles from the news. Science reporting in general is pretty bad, and that kind of science is difficult to do properly because of confounding effects. There is a reason why scientific articles tread very lightly with their conclusions. And from what I read following the 23andme items on breastfeeding (some genes seem to correlate with breastfeeding having a postiive effect on IQ, for instance), the science seemed a bit uncertain. Yes, it is better, but the extent to which is quite uncertain. Hence it's a tradeoff for many women.
As a future doctor who has looked into the research there isn't great data that shows massive benefits of breastfeeding. Its is definitely the food of choice to feed children due to the antibodies crossing over and giving the infant protection from some gastrointestinal infections but the data on whether it improves IQ isn't there yet.
I agree that women shouldn't be shamed for not breastfeeding but women who do should be protected
If the alt-right was consistent at all, they'd realize that Trump and the GOP are... to put it their way, "cucked" by Putin and Russia. Every one of these things turns into a PR coup for Russia playing the part of good guy against the bully USA.Russia is the last country that needs to be decrying the bullying other countries to promote special interests.
It is a choice but it needs to be an educated choice. Part of this measure is combatting misleading advertising from the formula companies.I absolutely agree with you on not shaming or bullying new mothers into breastfeeding . It's a personal and free choice and should not be judged by others.
So we're down to literally bullying other countries into doing what we want. What. The. Actual. Fuck.
wasn't there some controversy with nestle? like they were trying to convince mothers in 3rd world countries that formula was safer than breast milk?It has the backs of at least Reckitt Benckiser and Abbott Laboratories. So pretty deep pockets.
edit: oh and Nestlé too.

Literally "got mine fuck you".
And you're completely clueless about the matter too.
Don't bother replying I won't see it.
Read the whole thread then you maybe understand. How did you get that from that?
You need to take a break from this thread.
So we're down to literally bullying other countries into doing what we want. What. The. Actual. Fuck.
Fucking hell
The apology tour for the next Dem president is gonna take up their entire term
Well, I think the USA has always been, but have also been a lot smarter about it. Impossible with the current government of course. So good guy Russia had to step in lol.
